It was my birthday and my wife who was back in my home country called me and suggested I should still treat myself with a nice dinner even when I am living alone and without her company. I took out my phone, looked at Google Maps, and I decided to give Richard's Kitchen a try. It took a fair walk of ~30 mins from my home, and the weather was cold after the rain earlier in the day. Well, it turned out to be well worth it. Whatever expectations I had before entering the restaurant, Richard and his lovely staff have exceeded them all! Richard and the rest of the staff greeted me in such a genuinely kind and caring way that I felt at home almost instantly. Maybe it was also because there weren't too many customers at the time so they were not as busy, but still it was a really personal and seriously enjoyable touch, which is really appreciated! Everything from the starter to the main dish tasted so good. They even kindly made a special dish for me to make my B-day special. Even the MINT tea was well made with fresh mint leaves. Last but not least, the dessert. I loved it, period. I never expected to have such a great dining experience in a restaurant which may look absolutely ordinary from outside. Richard and his team really put their heart and soul into running this space, and yes I can feel it, see it, and of course taste it. They totally deserve more customers than they currently have given the quality of food at a very fair price. I look forward to getting back there regularly as long as I still live somewhere around. Thanks Richard, we only had a brief talk but you have successfully impressed me as a talented chef, warm-hearted restaurant owner, and a genuinely great human being.

I would say the best roast dinner in Tooting - had the beef this time and it was cooked perfectly with a wide range of great accompaniments. It’s not cheap but certainly worth it. We had a cheese board for dessert which was also very good and decent value. I’ve been for brunch before and remember it being excellent but have yet to try the regular dinner menu. Service was also very friendly and quick.

What a find! Great little restaurant. Ordered 3 courses, not intending to, just because the food was so good. Venison was perfectly cooked, and my fiancé's steak and chips were melt in the mouth as well. Make sure to get the sticky toffee pudding, a classic done beautifully. The music was great as well. Heard some of my favourite songs, which was a pleasant surprise

Come here for a brunch after park run. The creamy wild mushroom toast was really good! The chef knows what he is doing. Strongly recommend! Lovely and cosy place to go!

Football has Messi, basketball has Michael Jordan. Cooking has Richard. This man can do things with an oven that would make Gordon Ramsay question if he’s in the right field of employment. We visited on Sunday for a roast and let me tell you, ol’ Rick knows his way around a piece of beef. Our generation may have been born too late to discover the world and too early to discover outer space, but we’ve been born at exactly the right moment to enjoy a delicious meal at Richard’s Kitchen.

The food was lovely, such a cute, intimate, reasonably price cafe in Tooting Bec. It's super close to the station too. I had thee fish finger sandwich which was delicious

Amazing from start to finish. I can't believe we were the only people there! It felt like we came to dine with an old friend 😊 nibbles of warm bread and olives was a beautiful start. We even got a free sample of the mushroom sourdough and let me tell ya - SENSATIONAL. We had veggie Sunday roast and dessert which was also 10/10. Definitely will be back again to sample the weekday menu. Thanks!

We visited Richard's Kitchen recently after having to cancel our original booking for Christmas lunch due to Covid. It was definitely worth the wait!! The staff at Richard's Kitchen were so helpful beforehand and helped us to choose our own menu, which was difficult as all of the options looked so delicious. On the day we were greeted by Lewis and Richard who were so welcoming and extremely friendly. We were all delighted with our menu choices and we were amazed how Richard was able to prepare and serve all of our meals at the same time as well as serving other customers. We hope to visit again soon and will definitely be booking our Christmas 2022 lunch at Richard's Kitchen. Richard's Kitchen is a real gem in the heart of Tooting Bec!!

Definitely a little gem of tooting!! We enjoyed the homely feel and the maps from 1890s! I had the sea bass which was a perfect burst of flavours & my partner had the steak. He said “I’ll be back for this” right after the last bite. Thanks Richard & team !

This place is a magical hole in the wall. I would have bathed in the mushroom toast starter it was that delicious. And the halibut tail? SWOON. The roast chicken with cabbage that tasted of hugs and christmas… um, more please.

Had the mushrooms on sourdough and my boyfriend had the big breakfast. Both incredible, flavours were amazing and tasted like the highest quality foods were used. Prices were very reasonable - will definitely be back!

Good food, well cooked, lovely local atmosphere. My only gripe was the custard that came with my rhubarb and plum pudding was cold. Warm, gooey custard would have been a fitting end to a pleasant evening out.

One of my favourite local restaurants whilst in London, delicious menu that is frequently changing with a fantastic selection of high quality produce.

Had a really lovely dinner here last night, Richard was really really accomadating for my friend and I when we asked for vegan options (annoyingly doing veganuary). On the spot came up with loads of options that all sounded amazing - beetroot and aubergine salad and a polenta and chargrilled veg main. Everything we ordered was really delicious and massive portions - my dad had a steak the size of his head! can't wait to come back again when not doing veganuary so I can try the cheese gnocchi

Only been here once but will certainly be back. Poussin with garlic spuds cooked to utter perfection, nice wines, nice cheese board, delicious crumble. Brilliant.

Worth seeking out! This is an excellent little gem with high quality food. It might feel a little off the beaten-track of Tooting (maybe that's a good thing) but its definitely worth finding. I had a delicious starter of prawns and chorizo, then a chickpea burger finished with a chocolate mousse pudding, all amazing. We met Richard and he and his team are incredibly friendly. I only marked it down slightly because we went at a quieter time and I bet the place is really buzzing when full.

Always a treat. Great food, the best coffee and kind, funny and attentive staff. Our go to for weekend breakfast (eggs benedict is superb but the star is the really full english!) and can't wait to try dinner! Actually dog friendly too.

Went tonight before my mother and sister got on a flight. When we told the waiter about my mams coeliac disease, Richard came out from behind the kitchen when things had died down to let us know the area was cleaned so that no cross contamination was there. Helps that the Sunday roast was delicious. Will be making my way back here as soon as I can, best service I've gotten since moving to London.

Every time we visit we have an incredible meal, cooked from scratch with amazing flavor. Richard is always accommodating for my dietary requirements, so great GF and veggie options. Highly recommend!

An amazing local hidden gem, delicious food and brilliant, friendly service, very fair pricing. We went for brunch today and had kippers (proper kippers! Amazing!). It’s dog (and baby) friendly, too. The Sunday roasts are supposed to be great too (that’s tomorrow sorted!). I’m tempted to leave a terrible review so it stays secret but also want to give this wonderful place & lovely chef Richard a five-star thank you. Will definitely be back. From the family with the strawberry-eating baby and the blue eyed dog!

We love Richard’s. It’s a small venue and fairly unassuming, but the food is incredible. Lots of ever changing modern European meals to choose from cooked to an incredibly high standard at a very reasonable price. I feel welcomed with my baby, as well as when I’ve booked for a large group. Richard is very lovely as are the other staff.

Had a great night at Richards. An interesting menu which changes often, with british produce. Waitress (Chloe) was fun and attentive. Richard at the end of the night came and had a chat with us. Top bloke. Passionate about his food. Non pretentious, great food, great vibes. Will come back.

This is a friendly place, with a relaxing no fuss atmosphere. However I found the food a bit substandard. The meat was tough, potatoes a bit powdery, and the veggies a bit boring. My feeling is that the ingredients could be of better quality and everything would taste better. Nonetheless, it seems the place is popular, so why not give it a try.

  • 5/5 geraint o. 3 months ago on Google New
I’ve deliberated about posting this review but only because it’s a small place and I still want to be able to get a table! Everything seems to be made from scratch. It’s delicious. The big breakfast is poorly named - huge would be better. Eggs, bacon, sausages, black pudding AND steak along with home made beans, toast, mushroom and proper bubble. And where else can you get kippers for breakfast? Lovely. This place is a veritable gem.

Cosy and friendly restaurant. The kitchen seems to be an "one men show" which adds to the beauty of the restaurant. The food was (I just wished it had a bit less cream in the mushrooms and a better bread like sourdough), but I thinks that's juts my taste. The portions were better then we usually get in London and I left satisfied. I wish to go again because it seems like a petit restaurant we should support. The staff was efficient and welcoming. Almost homely atmosphere.

Have been here a handful of times with my family over the years and I have never been disappointed. Food is consistently tasty and the menu is constantly evolving. Richard is not only a fantastic chef but is also willing to try new things. The inner decor is great as well. Easy five stars

A quirky and rustic cafe, that opens in the evening. We each had a different traditional British dish with a twist, and each was cooked to the standard of good quality home cooking. Reasonably priced and good service.

Been to Richards Kitchen restaurant many times & he never disappoints, the food is always superb !! Tonight we had a 3 course takeaway & I must say it was absolutely fantastic, we took our own insulated bag to transport it home & it stayed lovely & hot whilst we enjoyed each course, thank you so much Richard & your lovely team for bringing your gem of a restaurant to Tooting Bec.... please please support this local business through this 2nd lockdown !! :-))) Chris & Jo

Basic menu and plain food. They serve wine in cheap little IKEA water glasses. We also got asked to move tables mid meal as they had missed a booking from earlier in the week. Also other people complaining about the table that sits at the front door. Poorly managed restaurant.

We went to Richard's Kitchen today - the first place we've been to eat since lockdown started - and had a fantastic lunch (the perks of working from home!!). The food was absolutely delecious and so reasonable. I had fish cakes to start and goats cheese main. We've been to Richard's before and it's always great food and great service. Would really recomend it!

Richards is a gem. I have been for brunch once, it was delicious and better then most London brunch spots in both quality and value for price. I have also ordered take out twice during the pandemic. I have gotten the cheese burger and chip which are homemade with fresh ingredients and once again good value for price. I will definitely be back.
