Great venue for events or just for dinner. As is a membership club it's quite hard to get in but try your best so you can enjoy this experience. The terrace has an amazing view to London's Eye, one of biggest attractions of London. The Christmas tree is huge this year and so cute. I was attending a party so had this great chance to taste some great wines and cocktails. Hope to get back one day and try the restaurant menu as well.

A splendid building with stunning high Victorian interiors hardly altered since it was built in 1882. Originally a political club, it is now a social, very exclusive, non-commercial private members’ club but a number of members are Liberal Democrats. As it is described by the Traditional Gentlemen's Clubs of London website it has "Probably the most stunning interior of all the traditional Gentlemen’s clubs in London – but visitors are usually duly impressed long before walking through the front door. Not only does the club have the most impressive address of all London clubs – 1 Whitehall Place – but the building itself, design by Alfred Waterhouse (who also designed the Natural History Museum), stands like a royal palace just off the Embankment. Overlooking the Thames and the London Eye, the lucky members of the National Liberal Club not only are able to enjoy their summer drinks on one of London’s best terraces, but also have the best view in the city of the New Year’s fireworks" I was fascinated by the full length, almost life sized portrait of a young Winston Churchill and the wonderful use of some beautiful marble especially on the awesome staircase staircase leading to the first floor. The height of the ceilings throughout are amazingly high and I was very intrigued by the "sit-upon" weighing machine with leather seat outside the gentlemen's lavatories. To take a walk back in time here is a total delight.

I was invited by a friend of mine who is a member. The food was excellent and the service impeccable. Highly recommended. Update: the same friend celebrated their birthday there. We all had a three course meal. It was excellent 👏 👌

Members club with lot of political members as well as other goverment related personal. Good food and drinks. The roof terrace is unique. Over looking the river across the road and London Eye. Few minutes walk from Embankment Station. The building is a very old building with lot of character. Love this place

This review is for the food shown in the photo. I ordered the jackfruit salad, which was on the "bar snack" menu. Not only was it really filing but it was also one of the best salads I've ever had! Highly recommended. I would come here just got the salad if I was a member.

A very grand place with sweeping staircase, where I had The privilege Of attending A violin and piano recital With Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux (violin) & Thomas Kelly. Charlotte did not disappoint and was definitely a pleasure to watch with her energetic style of play.

I'm very happy to be a member of this wonderful club. It's traditional grandeur combined with the friendly Liberal ethos makes it a brilliant place to spend time. I come for meetings as well as for socialising. The fees are not bad for a central London club, and the hospitality pricing is quite reasonable as well.

What an amazing membership club with such ambience and grandeur. I’m told Churchhill spent a lot of time in here. I had a meeting here during January 2022 when Covid restrictions were still in place. I’ve been told they have fabulous New Year’s Eve parties where you can look out from the terrace over the Thames to the London Eye and see amazing fireworks. It was completed in 1887 and has a dining room, a bar, function rooms, a billiards room, a library and an outdoor riverside terrace. It is located inside the Horseguards Hotel at Whitehall Place, close to the Houses of Parliament, the Thames Embankment and Trafalgar Square. I enjoyed a lovely glass of Cabernet with business associates.

Fantastic building, decor and ambience. Great staff. Lovely food. A very enjoyable lunch/afternoon. Thoroughly recommended but you can't just walk in (as far as I'm aware), you need a member to sign you in.

Actually almost 5 star deeper inside. A bit dated as you enter, then you discover how spacious it is. More airy and far better views across Thames than Pall Mall clubs. More inclusive, too.

I went there 13/07 as a guest of my brother, a member. Built in the late 19th century, a real trip back in time. The interior, unsurprisingly, well-kept, quite fascinating, comfortable. A gin and tonic on the terrace seemed quite appropriate … I know it’s a cliché, but really an oasis of tranquillity.

A dear friend invited us to this members only club and showed us around the art Nouveau interior. Astonishing and great fun. If ever the club offer open house to general public certainly with at least one visit. Full of history narrative and almost baroque decoration. DELIGHTFUL.

One of the old establishment meeting and events venues in central London. The place was buzzing on the day I attended because a General Election was announced the previous day. Men have to wear a jacket and ladies decently attired.

Gorgeous interior and exterior. And what a fascinating history it has. Having spent a marvellous evening there as a guest, I am truly planning to apply for membership.

Went there for dinner last tonight. Excellent food. After we went onto the terrace for drinks. The terrace has good views of the river Thames and the London Eye. All in all a very good evening. We had a John Dory fillet starter, Venison Haunch Steak for the main course, Raspberry Brulee desert followed by Scotch Egg and then coffee and mints.

  • 4/5 Maria C. 2 years ago on Google
I attended an event here. The room was really ornate and had unusual tiles on the walls. The washrooms however were up a narrow twisty staircase so weren't very convenient. It was easy to access the venue from the embankment tube.

National Liberal Club is one of the oldest in the town and is twinned with a number of respectful venues around the globe. Expect the best of the imperial times. Very spacious and richly decorated rooms. Even as the word "rooms" should be replaced and we better refer to them as halls. With plenty of lights and sitting spaces the club offers unparalleled atmosphere in the Central Westminster. Taking the grand stairs and exploring the historic portraits all the way to the library is a nice stroll and is highly advised. Do not expect fancy food yet focus on very sophisticated clientele and enjoy your conversations and omnipresent historic features this building has indeed. Mind, this is a private membership enterprise by special invitations only.

Private members club taking political and non political members. Stunning marble staircase and smoking room. Wonderful bar and delicious good value restaurant food. View from the terrace of the Thames, Embankment and the London Eye. Insider tip this is a great place to see the New Years Eve fireworks without the jostle of a public ticket. Have to be a member though.

It is quite traditional English place, the dress code is formal and it is fine for dinner reception meeting after a conference or workshop with dignitaries and high level classy ladies and gentlemen...

  • 4/5 Michael C. 4 years ago on Google
    lovely old world venue

  • 3/5 Luke H. 4 years ago on Google
For a club of this standing you’d expect it to be clean! Yes the club is many many years old, but that’s no excuse to to dust cobwebs, vacuum carpets etc. As a positive, staff are friendly and helpful and drinks are cheap.
