Please dont ever give the staff your belongings to put in there so called safe! Give to a family member to hold for you as you might find it goes walkies on those wards! This place has more stars then it should it's a dangerous place to be. Staff nurses have been abusing patients on a huge scale. I think this nasty place will be investigated one day in the near future for what the nursing staff have done to patients that are vunrable theres no need for it. Theres no care for patients they dont seem to believe in mental health from the country they are from and have a security kind of attitude rather then a caring proffesional attitude. They are all from west africa and speak there language on the ward to each other. And fall asleep on the wards eat the patients food and are just rude thay seem so angry and take it out on patients from this country. Absolutely barbaric how the mental health are treated here. Staff have no morals no empathy no soul disrespectful lack any understanding of mental health. Dont trust them and try to get your gp to refer you elsewhere. I feel sorry for patients referred to this place it should be fully investigated for its crimes and bulldozed to the ground. Funding cuts has seen a influx of these people working in the caring profession and it's a shame! Get CCTV on the wards Now!

Shrewsbury Ward, Oxleas House does not have the facilities to cater for people with any physical disabilities the staff are not concerned whether you are able to get your own meals, shower, use the toilet or get in and out of the premises. It is meant to be a mental health hospital with doctors and nurses, they do not change or clean your wound and do not have simple things such as plasters or cleaning solutions on the premises. If you are unfortunate enough to be in a wheelchair the lifts are consistently out of order and instructions for evacuation in case of an emergency is not relayed to you or does not exist. The only time the staff are active is either when a senior member off staff comes to their enclosed office or when a patient is being visited by family otherwise they generally lock the door chat, eat and sleep when on night duty ignoring the patients. The majority of the staff are made up of a certain nationality and needless to say most of the times it was difficult to understand what they were saying and I was constantly asking them to reiterate what they had said, especially a senior doctor who I met frequently on my ward rounds and had to ask consistently to repeat himself. I feel the sense of injustice and pity anyone who is admitted there and anyone currently inside. I admitted myself with the understanding that I would get therapy from a psychologist three times a week, I was lucky if I met the psychologist once a week for an hour. I believe the senior psychiatrist is under the impression that prescribing medication makes the patient better but I regret to say that I have witness patients going from bad to worse without being told or have any understanding what medication they were prescribed, patients are literally wondering around like zombies, it even came to the point of me witnessing a couple of patients who went to the point of no return. The person in charge of the ward is equally as incompetent, I was tasked to make a list of changes required for a disabled person in a wheelchair which I emailed to him, two months later no changes where made. Simple things like a lower bed to get out of a wheelchair or help getting food due to the limited access to the serving hatch at meal times (as mentioned before I was lucky because other patients got my food). On arrival items such as phone and laptop chargers are taken from you and put in the care of the staff to charge your devices, the staff damaged mine by pulling it out by the lead and the ward manager did not acknowledge it was his staff that damaged my belongings even though I had no access to it. In the height of summer when the temperature was above 30 degrees there were three fans visible in the office where the staff sat, one in the medical room, the doctors meeting room and a state of the art Dyson fan in the pharmacy, none was in the main foyer area for the patients. They have two signs in the ward stating: β€œRECORDING, PHOTOGRAPHS AND VIDEO TAKING ARE PROHIBITED ON THIS WARD THE USE OF MOBILE PHONES AND VIDEO EQUIPMENT ARE NOT ALLOWED FOR THE USE OF TAKING PICTURES OR RECORDING ON THE WARD IF YOU ARE FOUND TAKING PICTURES OR VIDEO FOOTAGE ON THE WARD STAFF WILL ASK YOU TO DELETE THIS FROM THE PHONE/CAMERA OR VIDEO MEMORY” What is there to hide! When discharged you are given a Community Practice Nurse (CPN) they are there to help you in times of crisis, they are only opened from 9am to 4pm and if you need any assistance they only tell you who to call, a complete waste of NHS money. There is only one person who goes out of his way to help, Owen.

The majority of staff are totally inept. Not fit to take care of vulnerable people. No empathy or care at all, the staff seem to care about one thing - their paycheck. They are very patronising and disrespectful when talking with patients and families. The place is terrible and shouldn't even be considered a place of care. Its worse than prison! If you have a choice of where to go or send your loved ones DEFINETLY do NOT choose this hell hole!

0 stars would be better suited. Please avoid sending your loved ones here. Abusive staff with poor, rude communication while with-holding information. Place should be shut down.

I recently did a runner from the Crisis House in Blackfen Rd because of the bad attitude of one worker in particular. He told me I was barred from ever going there again altho I've been in and out of Oxleas for about 10 years because of self harm issues. He also called me a liar when I said Zopicone don't work anymore. He said liar several times wagging his finger at me. Others were present. After I left I called the manager who listened attentively and said that the guy was unprofessional and would get told off. Staff are mainly surly and unhelpful but I do have a friendly staff member who I hardly saw. Go there to get well only if desperate.

I recently spent 2 days at Oxleas Crisis House in 369 Blackfen Rd. A tall staff boy ( Bolo, I think) was very rude and only met two good hearts amongst a bunch of horrible staff . If you value your right to be treated as a human then stay away.

Horrible rooms, Unprofessional staff, infirm arrogant and rude, little control in the patient rooms, I never spoke to any doctor even after my request and finally I brought my sister some clothes that are not been more returned.Disgusting experience plus I found my sister full of bruises all over her legs and the nurses not only did not justify the incident but they put themselves on the defensive..very very sad πŸ˜”

The 136 suite is absolutely awful, 1-1s falling asleep. The actual wards are okay, could be better could be worse. Discharged me when i said i wasn’t ready which ended in an attempt. Don’t expect any empathy or therapy there though.

I am originally from East London. I had a mental health crisis and was admitted to the Mile End Hospital. I was discharged into the care of my daughter who lives in SE10. I have been under the mental health team at Oxleas House. All I can say is WOW πŸ‘Œ the nurses and doctors have been amazing. I didn't feel like I was "crazy" I was treated with kindness and understanding. I got on the wrong bus today as sometimes I get disorientated. I called the team in a panic and the lady I spoke to was so reassuring. I spoke to two lovely nurses I think one was called Daphne and a trainee in her last year was called Abi. I also remember speaking to Zumba, Rosemary and Dr Jilbert Eyin. I may have forgotten a few people as my short term memory is shocking. If I have left anyone out "sorry" Sadly the Queen Elizabeth Hospital has some terrible reviews. Not from me ! A well deserved 5 🌟.

My experience in coming to the home treatment team last morning for and psychology assessment, was good, but I feel like interms of communication with one of the psychology that I and him did the assessment was low ,and he was sitting and rolling his chair πŸ’Ί all over the place than to focus on what me and him we are doing due to the psychology assessments period in the room. And I feel like intrems of empathy, sympathy, courage, patience, understanding and feeling your pains in what u have been going through for a long period of time ,I feel like the doctor is very very stricts, in terms of making decisions very fast, and not sitting and evaluating what the problems are to look for another way and alternatives pls ,. So overooll my experience in the home treatment team is : Out of 5 I will give : 3 out of 5 stars 🌟 stars 🌟 stars 🌟. Which requires alittle bit of improvements . Thank you all.

If I could give zero stars I would, this place needs to be investigated & closed, like Maryon Ward was, or entirely re-staffed. One of my relatives was admitted to Avery Ward just over a week ago, & her mental health has sharply deteriorated in that short time. She has not been prescribed medications that she needs, this has led her to self-harming on a number of occasions. (Something she wasn't doing before she went in.) This is not a place of care or safety. If you or someone close to you is going to be admitted here, do everything in your power not to go. You'd be better off in a prison. Whenever I have visited I have seen obvious neglect; patients with open wounds untreated & uncleaned for hours, patients lying on the floor for hours with the staff stepping over and around them, & I've seen staff ignoring patients who feel ill or are seriously distressed. There was a woman there yesterday who was complaining of pain in her left arm, neck & chest, nobody saw her in the hour i was there, despite her pleading with staff & getting increasingly agitated until she was screaming & hitting her head against the wall until it bled. None of staff even tried to comfort her, the only thing a nurse ever said to her was "we're not ignoring you." While she turned her back on her, walked away and locked herself in the little staff room... I dread to think what it's like when there are no visitors. The staff are lazy, rude & seem to have no understanding or empathy for those they are supposed to care for. People with mental health problems should be treated with dignity & respect, instead they are treated like criminals. I honestly hope one day they end up in a psych ward losing their minds begging for help just to be mocked & neglected, just like what they are doing to their patients now. This has been ongoing for years, as the rest of these reviews, I'm sure, attest to. I have literally not heard one good thing about Oxleas house or any related services, & I've met a lot of people that have had to use it. I don't know how its still open, charges should be brought against whoever is responsible for running it, as well as the nurses & doctors. GET CCTV ON THE WARDS ASAP! Make the complaints process simpler & treat patients like human beings for God's sake. If you aren't crazy going in, you will be by the time you get out. I only visit but it's pushing me to breaking! I'm sorry if you've ever had the misfortune of being under the "care" of Oxleas House.
