St. Etheldreda's RC Church, Farringdon

Tourist attraction Catholic church Church

👍👍 The history of this old church (the oldest Catholic church in England?) is palpable. A place of peace and beauty. Was particularly happy to see Irish saint, Naomh Brighid, St. Bridget, in a stained glass pane. You can buy a nicely illustrated history guide of the church for a fiver. There was no-on... People often mention church, glass, history, stained, London, windows, Beautiful, visit,

There was no-one there while we visited. Don't be shy! It's actually a relief to be alone in peace in the centre of London.

My husband and I celebrated an intimate Convalidation Ceremony at St. Etheldreda's at 4pm in February 2023. We could not have been more pleased with everyone who made our day so lovely and memorable, from the Parish Administrator, to the organist and soloist, to (of course) Father Tom Thomas. This church is renowned for its history and beauty, and (as the photos attached illustrate) it is easy to see why. We can't recommend St. Etheldreda's enough!

A true hidden gem , this church is tucked away down an elegant street. You can't even see the church as it is set back from the surrounding buildings, but it is worth hunting out. This small church dates back to 1300 and it shows. The stained glass windows are beautiful, and there are various plaques and statues dating back many years. Whether it be for prayer or simply to get away from the bustle of the city this church is worth a visit.

Catholic Church. Perhaps the oldest in London returned to catholic use. Close links to the reformation martyrs.

In the hustle and bustle of big city life it’s rare to find somewhere so peaceful and serene. St Etheldreda’s is such a place. Tucked in amongst lawyers offices, or companies and recording studios this little pool is solitude sits quietly waiting for those who need to collect their thoughts. A beautiful church surrounded by ornate stained glass windows. Perfect.

Beautiful historic church! Make sure to plan visit ahead of time as masses are regularly scheduled, and certain days/time slots are reserved for weddings and other events.

A beautiful church- located past Chancery Lane station. Lovely parish. One of the finest sets of stain glass windows I have seen in central London. Regular mass times.

The stained glass windows are a delight - especially those in the Crypt. There are many churches in London but this is definitely one to visit.

Off the beaten track, it took us a little while to find this fabulous old church. With a feel of stepping back in time, we found peace and solace in this wonderful spiritual space. We were the only people there, which meant we could take our time to appreciate the stained glass windows and historical architecture. It's always worth reading up on the history of places like this... so interesting, and it then you realise this church a very special place indeed.

Beautiful church, with amazing choir singing at the Latin mass. Warm welcome from regulars to me, kindly sharing a little of the history of the church with me after the service. Thank you.
