Take your picture with Trajan and read the panels. If you're seeing the Tower, this is an easy pick-up site along the way and gives you some sense of the scope of time associated with this ground. Easily done while passing through the Tower Station tube stop. Can be seen, read, and pictured in ten minutes or so.

Built by Romans two thousand years ago to keep their neighbours out. Watch “The Only Way Is Essex”, and you’ll understand. But isolating themselves from the outside world did have disadvantages, and after centuries of inbreeding and a general lack of fresh fruit and vegetables, the first cockneys began to appear, as did a primitive form of the British aristocracy. The Romans were slow to recognise the severity of their situation, and when they did finally try to escape, they found that the peoples of Essex, noticing what was going on, had added another two meters to the wall, and bricked up all the gates..

What a fantastic part of London and completely unknown to me, not read it in any guides. Amazing! An important part of British heritage these features need to be protected and preserved . So our past will be always known. It’s great that the council has looked after this wall, so easy for it to disappear.

One of the few places in London you can find a segment of the original London wall that surrounded the city. This piece is huge and you get an idea of the scale of the wall. It’s easy to find, right by the tower exit of Tower Hill station. There’s a little garden area and a few information panels giving the history. Just a short walk from here is the Tower of London.

Small, but important! Little tangible evidence of Roman Londinium remains, and though it dwarfs the surrounding buildings, this stretch of city wall is one of the more impressive remnants. The London Wall Walk also starts here.

This is a great place to take in the historic views of the Tower of London by doing rounds of its perimeter grounds. Plenty of photo opportunities in which you can explore at your own pace. There are many benches to relax on and take in the stunning castle backdrop. The main square contains the ticket booths for the paid tour of the Tower of London which is priced reasonably but if you want a free thing to do The London Walk is a real 'leave the wallet at home' treat. Located nearby plenty of bus stops and its own subway. There are information plaques dotted about the walk with information on the Tower's rich history A great cost effective way to spend the day at your own pace. It gets a 5 stars from me. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

It's so great to be able to still see stuff like this existing around London and when I knew about it it went straight on my list of things to see although it blends in quite well so you could easily walk past and not even notice it even though it's a big wall it looks like it's meant to be there.

It is not a fascinating site compared to the tower of London. Specially the attention the tower gets, however, the remaining part of the wall is a testament of time. Almost for 1800 years it has been standing there. The small section of the remaining wall presented in such a way that one can see the cross section as well as different layers added in course of time by different people. Though it might not look like something huge today but think about the time was build and you will understand its impact.

It’s wonderful to see living history tucked away in London. Bear in mind the original Roman wall is at the bottom corner there, not the rest of it. That was added later. Still, it’s nice to take in the history before grabbing a train from the nearest Underground station.

I’ve seen other reviewers talk about being a history nerd and I completely agree. This wall would easily pass the eye of someone that’s not necessarily interested in in what happened way back then. But if you’re someone that’s fascinated about how cultures evolve, how the world was then and how it’s similar / different from the world now, this wall provides a tangible piece of that. There are a few poster boards that detail out some of the history behind the wall and the purpose it served during its time so definitely recommend giving those a quick read and even following up with some light Google searches if you’re interested in knowing more. Even better, this wall is just opposite the tower of London and gives the best vantage point to take some good pictures of it. The Tower Hill Memorial is also 2 stone throws away from here so you can immerse yourself in a historical walk through (almost like an outdoor museum) in this area of town.

You can see the remains of the original Roman Walls dotted around the City. The section near Tower Hill Station, the part that's behind St Leonard's hotel (walkable from Tower Hill), just walk through the alley, the basement of 12 Jewry Street and St Alphage Garden. All easily walkable and accessible.

A very interesting walk, if you're into historical development from cities. You see some very great remains of the old city wall from the old Roman settlement as well as from the newer settlement, which developed into the huge metropolis we know nowadays.. Even so it's very interesting, however the path isn't good maintained :/ every information sign at every station leads you to the next station, however some signs/stations have been removed, and so to find the station after the in missing I had to use my handy.. in the end I was more searching for stations at Google maps than actually doing the wall walk, which was quite annoying.. In the end I only found half of the stations but the ones I found mostly had been very interesting.

A fantastic piece of history hidden within the modern architecture of London. It is impressive to see the shear scale of these walls that once surrounded the city.

London wall one of the things to see in central London. I use to travel from tower hill station everyday but never noticed it. This is exactly how it looks in the pictures. It’s does have historical significance. It’s very near to Tower Bridge and London Bridge.

Even though it will not take a long time to visit this particular part of the London wall, the whole idea of the wall is massive. It was built by the romand around 200 AD and it has a length of 2.8km. It is the best preserved remnant of what it was many, many hundred years ago, the eastern defence of the Roman Londinium. The site is located right at the exit of the Tower Hill underground station and just across the street from the Tower of London. Trajan's statue reminds visitors of a glorious era many decades ago. The whole London Wall walk is around 3h long, and this part of the London walk is the 2nd point. I believe it's important for everyone to acknowledge the existence of it and try to jug one's imagination about how it used to be around here before modern civilisation.

It's really nice to see such an ancient and important wall still standing. It looks as if the modern city grew without consideration of the wall, sometimes cutting through it, sometimes building up to it just because it was still there.

Tucked away behind the shopping and ticket shops, this piece of history deserves greater visibility. Good for views of the Wester side of the Tower complex. There many named Towers as well as the better known single Tower of London.

It's so cool to have ancient architecture blending into a city. The wall itself isn't anything special looking but it's awesome to think might have happened up against it hundreds of years ago.

The London Wall was a defensive wall built around 200BCE by the Romans to protect Londinium. The defence of Londinium was originally a mound and ditch around the first fort, built around 120BCE, but expanded 80 years later to enclose the city. Only tiny fragments of the wall remain, such as the photographed section between the Tower of London and the Tower Hill tube station. The characteristic Roman red tile brick binding courses are easily identifiable in the lower portion. The walls fell into disrepair after the Roman withdrawal from Britain in the early 5th century and the decentralisation of political power into the Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy. After the arrival of the Normans in 1066, the Walls of London saw successive medieval repairs and restorations, the addition of crenelations and new towers. Most of the wall came down from the 17th century onwards but its effects of the City of London can still be seen. Apart from a few exceptions, the modern road network follows the routes of the medieval roads in and out of the old gates. The gates also gave their names to portions of the city, such as Aldgate and Moorgate.

The pedestrian entrance to walk around the walls is exactly over these Roman remains of their wall around Londominium and you can follow a walk all the way to the London Museum. Very close to the Tower Hill underground station.
