This is an amazing tribute to those who gave so others can live in freedom. The statues details are stunning down to the smallest detail of their flying outfits. If you like memorials this is one to visit. About time these brave boys were appropriately immortalised. A very well though out monument, worth a look if you are interested or in the area.

This is an amazing tribute to those who gave so others can live in freedom. The statues details are stunning down to the smallest detail of their flying suits etc. A shame it is on such a busy road would suit somewhere tranquil to sit & contemplate but still beautiful

Very impressive memorial to the RAF Bomber Command crews who served during the Second World War. Aluminium from a Royal Canadian Air Force Handley Page Halifax of No. 426 Squadron that crashed in Belgium in May 1944 was used to build the roof of the memorial.

I admire this monument. It is good that it was finally installed. My father served with an American bomber group in Suffolk, so I know how important this job was at the time. I'm now going looking for the monument honoring the American bomber groups that served in England.

A amazing memorial to the the brave people who worked at Bomber Command. A truly pieceful place and with a fantastic view of Lincoln Cathedral. The staff are very friendly and I would recommend the guided walk as they are very informative and give you stories of some the names listed especially the story of Lionel Anderson....

The Bomber Command Memorial is one of several commemorative monuments in this area of the city. This one in particular is quite impressive to see. Here you will find a well designed memorial building by Liam O'Connor that is dedicated to the 55,573 aircrew who lost their lives during WWII. The memorial was only recently unveiled to the public in 2012. Within the open air structure with large columns, you can see the attractive 2.7 meter sculpture, created by Philip Jackson, featuring seven crewman, who have just finished a flight mission. The sculpture is quite detailed and worthy of time to admire. It has the ability to invoke strong feelings and emotion. Overall, we very much enjoyed seeing the Bomber Command Memorial and find it to be a nice addition to the collection of nearby monuments found at the SE Corner of Hyde Park. In our view, this memorial is well worth seeking out if you intend to spend time in this area of the city. Other similar monuments nearby, at the SE corner of Hyde Park, include the Wellington Arch, Duke of Wellington Statue, Royal Artillery Memorial, Machine Gun Corp Memorial, New Zealand Memorial, Australia Memorial.

Long overdue, but magnificent, memorial to the men of bomber command, 46% of whom were killed in operations during the Second World War.

If you like memorials this is one to visit. About time these brave boys were appropriately immortalised. A very well though out monument, worth a look if you are interested or in the area. Lots of nice touches in the design such as the bomb bay door effect you can view the sky through.

A wonderful tribute to these brave souls who helped win us the war. Felt rather tranquil and peaceful despite its close proximity to the nearby bustling metropolis.

Exquisite Memorial to British Veterans. This is a very beautifully sculpted memorial representing soldiers who fought to defend our way of life. You need to know where it is to find it, as it is not exactly on the most beaten track, but it is worth having a look at this art masterpiece commemorating our valiant military personal. From there you can reach many interesting spots in the city.

A touching and long overdue memorial to not only an incredibly brave group of men, but to the civilians who also lost their lives in the bombings. There is an explanation just outside the memorial of the 7 members of a bomber command flight crew on which the statue is based. Their badge is proudly inscribed on the outside wall 'Strike hard, strike sure' There is the comment from Churchill on 1 wall of 'the fighters are our salvation, but the bombers alone provide the means of victory' . The other wall honours the 55,573 air crew lost of the 125,000 who served (44%, this isn't counting the wounded or the captured, of which there were another 17,000! ) There is an opening in the ceiling with the RAF inscription of 'Per ardua and astra' meaning through adversity to the stars . There were several wreaths, one from a family remembering their Uncle who never returned from a mission. One from the Polish honouring all but especially squadrons 300, 301, 304 and 305 whose message ends with 'We will remember them, We will always remember them ' Yes, we will 🌹

A very moving memorial which well showcases what so many people did in the Royal Air Force to enable us to be here today. Defiantly worth stopping off when going through Green Park.

(Translated by Google) I didn't know about the existence of this monument and when I found it, I was amazed. It is really an emotional and beautiful tribute to the crews of those bombers in which many left their lives to defend England during WWII. The way the different crew members are reproduced is brilliant and also very informative. (Original) No sabía de la existencia de este monumento y cuando me lo encontré, quedé asombrado. An amazingly detailed sculpture to the memory of RAF Bomber Command during WWII. It materialized rather late, in 2012, more than 65 years after the cease fire, which indicates how controversial the bombing campaign was.

War is bad things for all.. 55000 died for their missions and what happened in Dresda is the effect of a terrific war 😭

  • 5/5 Simon D. 3 years ago on Google
Unveiled in just 2012, this memorial is to the memory of over 55,000 men who died in WWII, members of Bomber Command. Not just English, they came from many countries, including over 10,000 Canadians who lost their lives in this service. With by far the highest death rate (46%) of any Allied military group in WWII, this memorial portrays a crew who have just exited their aircraft after a mission.

Memorial monument for brave warrior. Due to recent passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II, people came to mourn for their late queen.

It is a sober but appreciative memory and recognition of the many soldiers and civilians who sacrificed their lives to the sadness and agony of their families who lost their husbands, wives, sons and and daughters and loved ones. As a soldier myself, I feel for all of them.
