This was booked as a surprise anniversary present. Most definitely the worst hotel I have stayed at. Dirty, broken furniture, stains on all surfaces and furniture. I didn’t remove my shoes. No hand soap one towel between two of us. Certainly no luxury hotel. This is definitely not a 4 star establishment. The only positive from our stay was the location. This establishment needs to have a major refurbishment. DO NOT STAY HERE

They demanded a £100 damages deposit on booking in, even though the company paid. They stated they had not received money from company yet receipt stated paid. Demanded Passport and Drivers Licence. I did not have the ID and refused the £100 damages deposit. The manager said he could not allow me to stay without photo ID and £100 damages deposit. Eventually we sorted with no deposit and company photo badge ID. The room was filthy, flies, torn curtains, mould on walls and ceilings, flies and cockroach in bathroom. The bed headboard was filthy. Carpets were filthy. Carpets in kitchen are filthy, furniture is torn, damp on most walls, rat and mouse traps throughout the inside of the building, hallways, dining area especially. The hotel is nothing like the pictures on its web site. The manager laughed saying all hotels create a false impression. I booked out after 2hrs and returned back home 120miles away. Will travel back to London in the morning. They refused a refund and said to complain to reservations. They were not helpful, supportive or customer focused. Th Cranley is NOT a hotel, and it looks nothing like its website. Avoid as it is a dirty dump not fit for purpose.

DO NOT STAY HERE. I'd prefer to rate this place with no stars at all. It was just a bit before covid19 existed when we stayed there and I was unwell. It was a terrible experience. We arrived around 7pm and they had a full menu for room service in our room, yet when I called, they said they could not send food down because their little restaurant was too busy. I asked for one plate of food, kind of had to beg for it, and my husband went upstairs to get it. The room was large, but far from luxurious. I was hungry pretty much every day there, and my husband had to bring me food from outside. Also they use actual keys and they attach them to this large heavy weight, so you won't be tempted to leave the place carrying it, so you have to leave it with the front desk (an actual desk) if you do leave. I only left once to go to a shop at the corner for food. It was summer and AC was broken, so they brought in this swamp cooler with a large duct going out the window to cool the room, so it was noisy if we wanted to stay cool enough to sleep. A Motel 6 would have been a far better choice!

The WORST hotel experience of my life. First of all, you are asked to pay a deposit of 50 pounds, nothing is indicated on booking. But a deposit for what? The room is dirty, the furniture is torn and stained, there is mould on the bathroom ceiling, the walls are crumbling, there is a pile of dust and cobwebs. I tried to sit on the chair in the office, I fell, it was broken. We asked the receptionist to come and see the deplorable state of the room and to relocate us to a downstairs room. I have never met a so called "professional" with such bad faith. The problem, according to him, was us and our high standards. We chose the cheapest room, so it is normal, again according to him, to have such a deplorable service. The least he could have done was to apologise for the state of the place. Not to give us his opinion on our standards. No other rooms were available, so we had to sleep in this one. We were supposed to speak with the manager the next morning, but of course he wasn't there. No one was at the desk when we leave. We made a complaint on booking. Conclusion: dirty and rundown hotel, staff in bad faith. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.

The only good thing about the hotel is the location. Unfortunately. Contacting the hotel in April for a rebooking in August failed miserably, since after a telephone agreement and e-mail confirmation we ended up standing in front of a surprised receptionist and therefore had to wait an enormous amount of time. Upon arrival, no help in finding a room, no information about breakfast times. Even when asked, only half-hearted answers are given. Rooms... ancient. OK. You arrive and don't find any toilet paper. No bar of soap in the room despite being advertised on the website. We had to ask for two days to finally receive some shower gel and soap. The shower head was so calcified that only a drop of water came out. Makes a shower adventurous. Housekeeping is apparently not available, since the room was not visited within 4 days despite the sign in front of the door. Receptionists apologize with "we are lagging behind with the service..." So if you want absolutely nothing but a bed, you're more than welcome to go there,.... BUT if you expect a bit more, like a room with the service that's advertised, you'd better look elsewhere. Would not recommend.

Very run down, stains on curtains, headboard and chair in the room. One armchair in the room was even missing chunks out of the material. Paint was also coming off the walls and furniture. Extremely overpriced given there were no facilities in room to make a tea or coffee. In addition to this I was told I had to pay a £50 deposit to get my room key, something that was not mentioned upon booking at all. The breakfast that I paid for had extremely little selection and the only thing on offer that was warm was instant coffee or tea. I also overheard several guests complaining about their rooms and the staff not seeming to even care. On the first evening I stayed I waited down in reception for a food delivery to arrive and heard the manager screaming at one of the employees. Clearly a very badly run establishment. Lastly, when I arrived into my room I noticed that there were a lot of flies due to the window, with a cracked glasspane, having been left open since the previous unfortunate guest. I would recommend staying literally anywhere else!

Stayed here with My partner as celebrating there birthday and it was horrendous and the rooms just disgusting as dust on the skirting boards, mould in and around the shower and the toilet wouldn't flush. I was also told to leave a security deposit of £50 pounds which would be frozen and not touched, yet they still debited my card with the payment and now they are blaming me as it's my fault as I should of stated not to take the deposit. I tried to get a refund and I was denied and told I can't have it back. The Customer Service is a joke and the service is poor and I can't have my money back , not even as a good will gesture. I'd be careful with the cost of the living crisis as the hospitality sector tend to suffer first like in lockdown and all customers should be treated with respect and loyalty and for businesses to want to bring people back and stay open.

Very misleading;dirty carpets filthy mattress cigarette burn on sheet . I stayed one night if I had seen the mattress I would not have stayed . No facilities in the room for tea coffee not even a glass in the bathroom . Breakfast was just nothing : described as continental . White brown bread postage stamp squares if tastes less cheap : reformed process ham . Instant coffee . No juice or water . The Carpet was dirty and no hot water from the shower. The bath. Panel looked like someone had given it a good kicking . They also took £50 for a security deposit for what I’m not sure there was nothing to buy or to the room . It mentions mini bar not a thing This is definitely not a 4 star . It needs refurbished from top to bottom .

Location ideal. Service not as bad as some of the other reviews, just indifferent. Those are the good bits. Everything else is dire. Fortunately I knew what to expect as I read the reviews in advance - if I'd paid my own money for this I would be absolutely livid. Paint peeling in the bathroom, curtains wouldn't close in the room, and a leak from above the window. It's obvious the current owners are just milking it for cash due to the location. If you'd booked it from the photos on Google or a booking website, you would be very upset. It's almost comically bad. Only stayed as was in London for work and due to a train strike I needed to stay over - booked in a rush as there was hardly anything available, then read the reviews afterwards... I am just glad it wasn't my own money. I've stayed in lots of hotels and rubbish accommodation, including one memorable 2 week stint sharing half a mouldy shipping container unit in Gabon, and this is right down there with the worst. Probably better than sleeping on the street, and well located. But that's about it.

It’s not bad. I’m glad I read all the reviews before because my expectations were zero, we even tried to cancel. This is an old house, it’s not a 5 stars hotel. It’s more a boutique hotel, with hostel vibes. In my experience, it was not dirty. We had the room made every day, with clean towels. It’s just an old house, More like a small family business hotel. We got a superior room, which was big and comfortable. Yes, it’s an old house, I think it needs some love ($) but we enjoyed our stay. We paid less than $400 for 3 nights. You can find anther options for the double almost. Breakfast is basic (some ham, cheese and toasts) but is something considering the price. It’s not for you if you’re used to modern hotels, with automatic lights and digital mirrors. I liked it, the place has its own personality.

Truly, truly, truly do not book here. When we arrived they were having the flooring redone, which wasn’t a great impression, but I thought “hey, it has to be done at some point!” There was a small desk set up which served as check in where the hotel took a £50 deposit which was not something I was informed of when booking (and later had to quibble with my bank to get back) and we were given a key to a room. We got up to it to discover it was still dirty from the last guest. They gave us a new room which was really quite disgusting. The bathroom was dirty, the shower was cold, the room had a portable air con unit which meant the window couldn’t close (and being November in London, you want it closed!) the mattress and carpet were both heavily stained, and none of the listed amenities were available. No hairdryer, minibar or room service. My bed side lamp was missing a bulb and shade, and the one on the other side of the bed just didn’t work. The light switch was broken so there was just a small black piece of plastic to use for the lights. The furniture was all chipped and decrepit. This hotel was probably nice in the 90s and got a 4-star rating, at which point it was never touched again. I honestly think this hotel would be a 1/2 star rating now, given the filth and general condition, not to mention in inhospitable staff (we heard a manager shouting at employees). The location is okay, but honestly, there are better located hotels in Kensington. Avoid this hotel like the plague, because you may catch it there.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Sure the location is beautiful but that is it. I inspected several rooms in the hotel. All are in poor shape . The hotel has charm but it needs a lot of work. See picture for example. On top of that nothing works. The safe didn't work. The fridge didn't work. The air conditioning didn't work. Breakfast is to be provided and they run out of food the first hour and don't replace. All the people do is say sorry . The owner only comes in once a week to check the books. The reviews on this place are correct. They sell it as a 4 star hotel but what it is ,Is a 1 star motel. Not even a hotel. The whole experience put a damper on my vacation. In one sentence DON'T GO HERE

Do not stay here unless you enjoy ants in your bedroom, taps that drip through the nights, mould around your bathtub and lights that flicker. When I asked about sorting any of the above I was told I was being sensitive. There are no facilities in the rooms (no kettle or tea/coffee or even a glass to drink water from) and the breakfast offer- included in rooms- happens downstairs, sometimes, in a fashion that will make your own kitchen cupboard look like luxury. Every day I met other guests complaining about similar issues with their rooms in the downstairs lobby with haphazard rugs partially hiding clusters of wires running across the corridor. This hotel is sorely in need of some care, money and management- it has gone past faded glory into grubby, dirty, unwelcoming and quite probably unsafe. I would strongly recommend that you avoid staying here at all costs.

Terrible experience. Do not book here despite the pictures looking good this is not the case. On arrival they said they had my booking but due to issues with other rooms had given it to another guest. Being 23:30 at night I refused to leave and they gave me one of the rooms that was out of action. It had a flooded bathroom with towels all over the floor, blocked toilet and skin and the rooms was very dirty with stained sheets. The night porter didn’t speak English neither did anyone in the day. They took a £50 deposit off my card and said I would get this back, but other haven’t. Room had heathers running fans and dehumidifiers as the carpets were flooded too. No wash bits kettle tea coffee or anything not even towels. Dirty towels left on bed. Most lights didn’t work or had bulbs missing. Should not be operating as a hotel.

Dirty floor, no Aircon, no hairdryer, no kettle or tea/coffee! Didn't change bedsheets! Light fixture hanging off! Went downstairs for a cup of tea, and had to wait 10 mins for hot water! No spoon to stir it with!. Rude staff. WiFi Not working! Would not recommend this place it needs a major overhaul!!! Have had far better stays in a premier Inn.

This is a one star hotel. BEWARE of the £50 deposit for late check outs. Rooms don't have Aircon, tea or coffee facilities, hairdryer or iron. Surfaces are dusty. Oil was on the inside of the door and carpet. Shower head option was hose pipe blast. Only one spot light worked in five. The bed side lamp was missing a bulb. The dim lighting could not hide the stained curtains and peeling paint. Room 305 Breakfast was a bowl of boiled eggs, wafer ham and cheese or toast and strawberry jam in a bowl. There wasn't any pastries, yoghurt or fruits. The toast was a household 4 slice resulting in a 30 min wait for the toast as there was 15 other guests trying to eat.

Disappointing. Wallpaper falling off the walls in the bedroom, no hot water for the shower, tv didn’t work, stains all over the carpet and bathtub, and we had to close the curtains to keep heat in the room. The one positive was that the bed was very comfortable. We returned from a trip out one afternoon and were told that the toilet in our room was broken. It was fine when we left, so not sure how they deduced it wasn’t working. We were told we needed to move rooms for our final night but we just left. A real shame as it’s in a brilliant location for exploring London but needs some investment in the rooms and cleanliness.

Absolutely disgusting 1st room we were given had red ants on the pillow and in the bed, door in the bedroom didn't lock from the inside, stains on the carpets, curtains hanging off the wall so asked for a change of room. Second room yet again disgusting bathroom had damp on ceiling looked like it was falling down, paint peeling off wall, lights in the room didn't work nor did the TV. Demanded to speak to manager and was given a 3rd room which was their suite. Third room yet again red ants seen on the headboard as well as stains at this point myself and ny husband refused to stay and demanded a refund which we are having to go through a dispute process to get our money back. There is no way this is a 4* hotel carpets throughout the hotel are of a poor quality and in some places on stairs are ripped and stuck down with duck tape along with lights that don't work while walking around the hallways this is very unsafe. DO NOT STAY Have included some pictures but was able to attach videos of ants on beds/headboard.

  • 1/5 James C. 4 months ago on Google
One star is far too generous for this absolute joke of a "4 star" hotel. Ants in the bed, questionable stains on the bedding, threadbare carpet held together with duct tape, paint and plastering flaking off the walls and ceiling and lights not working outside some of the rooms. After complaining about the room we were given we were moved to a different room which wasn't any better so complained again and got moved to what they called their Junior Suite which was of as poor a quality as the first two. They also charge a £50 security deposit which wasn't mentioned anywhere when booking. Avoid like the plague (which you could likely catch if you stay in this dump)!!!

  • 1/5 Randy R. 5 months ago on Google
Google shows this as a 4-star hotel. It is a 1-star hotel! Looks like a rat ate the curtains, paint on toilet seat, and the TV doesn't work. After 2 trips downstairs they gave me new batteries. Didn't work. They say they don't have any more TV's or any more remotes. There is one employee and he sits at a small table with a laptop and has AirPods and was talking to someone on the phone in a foreign language as he was talking to me--both during check in and during the battery swap. Someone is getting a kick-back to call this a 4-star hotel. It is a DUMP!

Absolutely horrible. Worst place I’ve ever booked. So much so I didn’t stay! I had nowhere else to go so have sat in the station waiting for the first train home since about midnight. Floor was completely soaked. Bathroom floor continuing to add more water no idea where from. Smell was horrendous. Do not believe the photos on the website. Still arguing to try to get my money back! Didn’t even have a real lock on the door. Avoid at all costs.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Cranley Hotel and I must admit that we have been more than dissapointed with our stay. Firstly, we went down to breakfast at 9am the first morning and were shocked to find that the breakfast was completely empty. There was not even any spoons, forks or plates left, let alone any food. However, we went on with our day, but when we came back to the hotel at 10pm we found our room had not been cleaned during the day. There had not even been a refill of the toilet paper from the last guests. When we then went to the reception to complain the bearded man basically said that he could/would not help us. Furthermore, the AC nor the minifridge are non-functional. If you can choose another hotel, DO SO!

  • 1/5 izzy m. 6 months ago on Google
horrible stains everywhere, dead bugs, rotting wood under the tub, which also was constantly dripping. could only get warm water in the sink, not hot, just warm? the water from the sink also only came out as a small trickle. the shower didnt work, that was only cold water, but the tub had both cold and hot working. so so dirty and made me have some very bad allergy issues but couldn't get a refund so i stuck it out. the location is good but not worth it. the photos are screenshots from a video i took, sorry for the weird cropping. booked to stay here without checking reviews first (oops) and i wish i had. won't be back.

ATTENTION AMERICANS - Stay away from this absolute dump of a "hotel". There were bugs in the bed, so i never unpacked my suitcase. We were stuck there for 5 days as our credit card website listed this as a 3-star hotel, and it was nonrefundable. Google reviews has it as a 1 star. Definitely false advertisement from Chase Sapphire as we trusted them to have decent accommodations. The people who work there are not helpful helpful nor do they care if your stay unpleasant. No HVAC so they have portable units in each room, but the exhaust has no wear to go so your room gets overly hot. Again, stay away from this place unless you want to be grossed tf out.

  • 1/5 Liz T. 6 months ago on Google
While the location is great, the hotel itself is incredibly run down. I am not sure how it could possibly be advertised as luxury. We checked in very late after a long day of travel. When checking in, I noticed the hallway area where the desk is located was shabby with threadbare carpet/rugs and poorly kept artwork. The hallways to the room were similarly old and worn appearing. The room itself has an old fashioned, quaint appearance at first glance, but if you look closer is just old, dirty, and poorly maintained. I pulled up the sheet corner to do a bedbug check and the mattress was various shades of yellow and brown where it used to be white (remnants of the prior white could be seen in the seams). Once I actually sat in the bed, I realized the mattress had collapsed in the middle. The bedding, likely the pillows and mattress, had the metallic smell of unaired body oil.If it hadn’t been two in the morning, we’d have probably left and went elsewhere. As it was, we stayed that night and then went to a different hotel for the rest of our stay. In the morning light, the hotel was worse. The box spring was stained and so was the fabric on the headboard. We did not bother with the breakfast beyond coffee.

I booked this hotel via Emirates Skywards - which is a very reputable brand and all their hotels have been superb - so I assumed The Cranley Hotel would be the same. However, I had a medical emergency and had to cancel my trip - but while Emirates Skywards tried, The Cranley Hotel refused to refund me. While I appreciate this was a non-refundable booking, the fact they didn't take this my case into consideration is one reason I would strongly urge anyone to select a different location. If in doubt, just look at the disgusting photos of the rooms and breakfast. There are other hotels in South Kensington which perhaps cost ~£25/night extra but you'll be guaranteed superb quality.

  • 1/5 Simon M. 5 months ago on Google
The location is really the only good thing about this. Unfortunately the hotel is not a shade on the website, lights not working in room, heating very hit and miss, air conditioning not working, water damage and damp overwhelming in our first room so moved rooms and while slightly better it was still not much of an improvement. Carpets all loose and wrinkled, so hard to move cases etc. Cereal and toast only for breakfast and not as advertised. It would not be close to the list of hotels I would recommend or return too.

I don't get all the whining from people these days. Some people just feel spoiled to me. Go and pay for a more luxurious and expensive stay. Yes, the hotel is old, but it is NOT dirty. The people working here are extremely sweet and helpful. Room was big and bed was soft. Shower wasn't the greatest, just make sure you take a shower in the late evening, then it's fine. Location is great and I enjoyed the simple breakfast. Two kinds of (warm) toast, cheese, meat, jam and butter. Coffee, tea, juice and milk. I did enjoy my time here and would not mind it at all to come back!

  • 2/5 Jemma B. 1 year ago on Google
Room was extremely dingy and hadn't been looked after at all. They demanded I pay with cash which was very odd and sent me to a near ATM. The "breakfast" they offered was two variations of bread, instant coffee, jams and some deli meat so bare minimum. Opted out of the breakfast as it felt like a place that was best left quickly. Luckily only stayed one night as was in London for a concert and really hope yo see my £50 deposit because they clearly don't fix any damages anyway

  • 1/5 Steven S. 1 year ago on Google
Agree with all the recent comments!!! Only stay here if you need a cheap hotel in an amazing location! The room we had was horrid and well past acceptable. We had booked 2 nights based on the Booking site 4 star rating we thought it was a good hotel discounted! Nope it’s a very old and tired hotel charging a low rate which is a bit high for how bad this is!! We left and found another hotel! With some investment it could be amazing!! I hope they do!!

  • 2/5 Daniel B. 1 year ago on Google
Stayed there for two nights with a friend. The room was pretty basic and in need of renewal. However, especially the "receptionist" was very strange asking every evening when I got in which room I stay in and when I left with a suitcase whether I check out. Too much control! Location is good though and there are various restaurants etc. nearby.
