We were invited to Hen of the Wood while we were in Burlington and I couldn’t have been happier with our experience. They have taken great care to cultivate a fine dining ambience that is not overcrowded or pretentious. The Farm To Table experience offered is one of the things we love most about the town of Burlington, Vermont. The food itself is delicious. We had a variety of cold seafood, steaks, vegetables and dessert - all were excellent. Do not skip dessert. Their olive oil lemon cake is SO GOOD. 🍋 I promise it’s worth all of the calories!

Last minute Walk-in and were offered a spot at the bar. Best decision of the day. The pastrami duck was an delicious surprise and the work put into the veggies definitely shows. My personal highlight, the olive oil cake. You will not be disappointed!

This was by far the best meal of our weeklong trip in Burlington VT and Lake Placid NY. Everything from the food to the cocktails to the service were phenomenal. Certainly a bit of a pricy meal but well worth it to us for the great experience. Two of us shared a half dozen oysters, two cheeses, three small plates, and one larger plate fish dish. All were fantastic. Desserts were also great!

A must-visit if you're looking for an upscale dinner in Burlington. Local ingredients on a menu that changes nightly. Every dish and drink was impressive and its own experience that married well with the others. Cozy atmosphere.

let's start with the cheese: it is evident that they have gone out of their way to select excellent VT cheese. regarding the piece d' resistance : they recommend you go for the steak. although cooked perfectly it is served together with a sauce that is a bit of a disservice to the texture of the steak. the wine selection is very good although they failed to warn our table about the uniqueness of the VT wine on offer, which had atypical tasting notes. In my opinion, a restaurant of this caliber should have warned the table about this. The venue is warm and inviting and the window to the meat freezer adds a unique visual element.

Tasty food, attentive service, great wine selection, and really good cocktails. The decor and ambiance really make this place special. For a more expensive, fancy night out Hen of the Wood really fits the bill. Hope once everything settles down it'll be easier to get a table and they'll bring back happy hour oysters 🤞

Absolutely delectable food of the highest quality. If you have a chance, sit at the counter by the kitchen! You get to watch these masterful chefs creating your food and the fine touches that make all the difference. A bit pricey but SO WORTH IT. If you only have time to eat at one restaurant in Burlington, go here.

Hen of the wood is an incredibly quality restaurant and has earned its solid reputation. Went there for a date night and while it’s definitely on the more expensive side, it’s worth it. I had the grilled broccoli entree and my boyfriend has the porchetta, we were wildly impressed. We also ordered two different cheese plates which never fail to delight. Drinks were great too. The ambience is really rustic but modern, and I felt super comfortable. Service was incredibly kind and attentive. Definitely a great place for a more special occasion!

I was not expecting food quite this thoughtful and of such high quality! I’ve traveled a lot (and live in Manhattan), and this rivaled places with Michelin stars (and honestly is a much better dining experience than a lot of those places…). Please go here. As soon as possible- and have the duck if it’s on the menu!

Love this place! The ambiance and food is absolutely stellar. My partner and I have celebrated several occasions at Hen of the Woods and will happily return for more. Their Parker house rolls are quite possibly the most delicious bread you'll taste in Vermont. Soft pillows of deliciousness. I generally end up ordering most, if not all of the small plates, for great sharing options and to really get a sense of the entire menu. Don't skip on the cured ham if that's available, or their signature mushroom toast, and be sure to leave room for a cheese or two to end your meal. Cocktails are delightful and use local spirits and ingredients, reflecting the overall ethos of the restaurant. I recommend this place for cozy dates, big celebrations, and any time you want to enjoy local products.

Nice fresh plates, but a little too hyped up and expensive. Food was alright but nothing was mind blowing. Cocktails were creative and delicious, but expensive. The cheapest bottle of wine that was offered was $50… It’s one of those places where you go and check out once, but don’t make it a regular spot. Service was kind and attentive. All the staff there are really nice and knowledgeable. I also liked the rustic decor and the open kitchen concept as well.

There were no reservations available, but two of us got a walk in right when they opened. There was already a line out the door in -20 degrees, but we were fortunate enough to sit in front of the chefs. We ordered a few different dishes. You could taste the intent in each bite. The endive and venison tartare were especially unique and delicious. The cocktails were also great, I had to get the one with mezcal and repasoado twice. The menu rotates, so I can't wait to be back.

My favorite restaurant of all time. Staff are extremely knowledgeable and kind. Food is out of this world. Cocktails are amazing. Great date night, or place to bring a client of in town. I go here every time I’m in Vermont

Always amazing fare at both locations. Fresh, seasonal, local, and exquisitely paired flavors. Oysters are super fresh! The seat at the chefs counter is always the best spot in the house as you can watch the dance between everyone to create all the yummy dishes. Staff on both sides of the counter are wonderful and clearly love food as much as we do. They are super helpful with food restrictions and one of the very few places in the country that on occasion have local shrimp that are sulfite free! Best sunset views right out the front door.

We had the pleasure of sitting at the chefs counter to watch them work their magic! The wait staff was well informed to answer all our questions and the food was fantastic. Well worth making the reservations early 💗 We wish you had a location in NH!

As a former Chef…this place has Michelin Star written all over it!!! Chef Warnstedt had a James Beard award ready and waiting for him! I’m a DC transplant and have lived all over the world, I can count on 1 hand memorable meals, this is definitely one of them! Oysters ohhhh so fresh! And included with a dropper bottle of chili vinegar sauce, fantastic! Beef short rib app… DIVINE! Had the hangar steak and stripped bass, succulent and incredible with the combination of flavors! I cannot recommend this place more! Yea, it is pricey, but my god will you love every bite!!!!! If there were more than 5 stars I would give it!

Cozy, warm and inviting. Very good. We sat at the bar. Enjoyed a couple cocktails with two cheese pairings (perfectly described by our bartender) with delicious homemade crackers and a sweet preserve made by the pastry chef and a side of Parker rolls; Gooey yeast rolls topped with sea salt. Melt in your mouth deliciousness. For our main dish, we shared the ribeye; suggest trying something else. Portion seemed small and average. Lastly for dessert, we had the butterscotch crème. Pastry chef shining through again. Service started off strong but as it got busy, we were told meal was being plated twice. Yet, kept waiting even on a Monday evening. Food was very good but the ribeye dish was disappointing. It was also by far the most expensive meal we’ve had in quite some time. For these two reason, I feel 4 stars is an adequate rating.

Better service than I've gotten at restaurants in Boston or NYC that cost twice as much, and better food. Cocktails were fantastic, with more pre-set menu variety there than most venues — though you can order an old standby if you want. The food was incredible, with very fresh and flavorful ingredients in curious and interesting combinations. Even though it was "just" a side, the sunchokes were a major highlight for me. The oysters were also fantastic, and the mignonette paired with them must be in the top 2-3 preparations I've had. I sat at the bar for a solo dinner, and the noise level wasn't a problem either. The menu also changes frequently, so my recommendations will fall out of date, and I'll also have a great reason to come back soon.

Fun dining experience at the Chef's table for a celebratory dinner. The restaurant is cozy with an open kitchen concept that brings a warmth to the dining environment. Food was on point, staff were great, and drinks were excellent. 10/10 would go again.

Wow, we were recommended by fellow skiers on the lift and it didn't disappoint at all. We got to sit at the chef's counter and being someone who has been in the restaurant my whole life it was a pleasure to watch these guys work. Super professional and the whole kitchen works as a well oiled machine. The food was equally as impressive, the menu changes frequently, so if they have it, the duck was amazing and even my girlfriend who doesn't like duck tried it, and agreed it was delicious. Finished with an Espresso martini which was a perfect finish to the perfect dinner with my special girl!

What a lovely farm to table experience this place provides! My friend and I were not disappointed as we truly enjoyed the experience they provided for us. Our waiter Chris did a fantastic job of explaining everything to us and being honest about the selection of food. We enjoyed the pear appetizer along with the duck and the swordfish. I highly recommend all the above as the food was exquisite and memorable! I wish I lived in the area so I could come back and eat there again often.
