i was a bit underwhelmed as one area of the museum was closed off for a future addition. we were luckily able to visit for free because it was a sunday afternoon as a walk up. the other rooms did have some interesting exhibits but it really did feel small but looked huge from the outside. i felt like the gift shop was a little too big in size as well. the highlight has to be the sculpture garden which also had some empty spaces for some more pieces. i would like to visit again in the future but i'll wait a few years before that next time.

You should come here with the right expectations in mind: it’s a small museum. However the content it has is very interesting and insightful! And I enjoyed going through it once by myself and a second time with a wonderful guide who discussed some of the pieces more in depth and talked about some historical and cultural contexts I was unaware of!

I recently visited this museum during a conference field trip. They closed off the museum and we only had a chance to see part of it. A lot of great art displayed. We had a private lunch in their patio area. Lots of cactus and a stage where mariachi performed. I’d love to come back and check out the rest of the museum.

Small but very elegant museum! The outdoor concert hosted by the Long Beach Blues Society was wonderful. It was hot outside on the August evening but food trucks in the parking lot and big cold drinks - I got lemonade - and inside the museum was very cool. Lots of Frida Kahlo stuff in the gift shop. The women artist's work inside is definitely worth checking out, actually all the art was unique and interesting and often quite beautiful!!! Cool gift shop too!

They have reservations now. Discounts for students and seniors, too. Goodly amount of parking, oh, and they have free admission on Sundays with a reservation.

I really liked the way the exhibits are presented. I feel a lot of reverence for the artists and respect to their history. Sadly, I always feel left wanting a little bit more to explore. There are so many great artists to learn about.

12:37 pm Sat/7 Oct. Free, easy parking in their huge lot. Museum is only 1 story so easy to walk around. $10/entry for students/military, $15/regular and i think they have frequent free admission days (docent said tomorrow Oct 7 is free).

I loved this museum. The employees are really nice, if you have questions they can solve them. They have a garden with sculptures and a gift shop.

Smaller art museum, but has a lot to enjoy and see. We went on a sunday and it was free. Sculpture garden is pretty awesome as well. Definitely will come back again.

Had a terrific time while viewing some incredibly talented women artists. I personally want to thank MOLAA for hosting our visiting migrant children's beautiful art work! It was truly heart warming and a lovely tribute to our new young friends.

I’ve been coming to the Museum of Latin American Art since I was a child, and it’s been an incredible journey to watch this institution flourish over the years. 😊 The Plant Fest event I attended today was a testament to the museum’s unwavering dedication to art and culture. 🌿 The range of plants on display was astounding, showcasing the incredible biodiversity of Latin America. 🌱 What truly sets this museum apart is the knowledgeable and passionate staff and volunteers. They shared the cultural and botanical significance of each plant with such enthusiasm, making the event not only enjoyable but also highly educational. 🌍 The welcoming atmosphere at the museum is something I’ve always cherished. It feels like a community of like-minded individuals coming together to appreciate the beauty of Latin American art and nature. 🤝 I highly recommend this museum, whether you’re new to the area or, like me, have cherished it for years. The Museum of Latin American Art has consistently delivered outstanding experiences, and I’m excited to see it continue to thrive. Keep up the great work! 🎨🏛️

I really enjoyed this museum. Staff are nice, helpful. The exhibits were good. It is a nice, wide open space. Was not crowded at all. Nice laid back atmosphere. There is also an outdoor sculpture garden, where events are held. There a plenty of free parking. Great gift shop. But, it's really small. So yeah,it's a nice, short, sweet visit.

Very small museum that looks large from the outside. I guess there was hardly any art to honestly really see. There is a sculpture garden and a few areas to view and a gift shop. All together it was about a 35-40 min walk thru

I enjoyed my time at MOLAA, I liked the exhibits were nice, the music was great, and the food trucks were nice. Overall, I think this is an important place to see a different perspective from what I am used too. However, I did not feel like I learned much about Latin American Art when I went. My best guess is that they were doing work on an exhibit. I would suggest checking what exhibit is on display before going, so you don't run into the problem I did. Will come back to see the new exhibits!

Enjoyed the exhibition and theme. Staff here isn't as friendly as they are in other museums. But focus on the art and you will have a great time.

This is a small museum that features modern and abstract Latin American art. Although the exhibit seems limited, the place is well kept. There wasn’t much to see so 45 minutes was good enough for me. I liked the lobby and the gift shop.

one of the staff there told me to move my son away from the art. I understand if I was letting my son do whatever he wants that’s why I’m being told that but I kept an eye on my child the whole entire time and maybe this place isn’t autism/kid friendly. I don’t recommend this place at ALL.

😀 I had such a great time at this museum. It's truly an artistic movement and a vibe. The moving picture room captivated me and my little one. All the artists featured here presented their souls. An affordable weekend outing for the family forsure!!

The current tattoo exhibit is especially incredible, with very personal stories, and moving representations of those stories being tattooed onto the people sharing their experiences. If you have the chance to check it out before it wraps, you absolutely should. The rest is also good. Incredibly reasonable ticket prices as well.

The Afro-lLatin Festival was so enriching, I rediscovered historical possibilities of Mansa Munsa descendants connecting with the people of Guatemala and Hondoras, people in Latin America who I have a sense of family connections since mines also leads to West Africa.

Beautiful artwork from Judy Baca! However, for a "Latin American" museum, the lack of South American and Caribbean representation was shocking and very disappointing. I would not recommend it if you are looking for a variety of Latin American perspectives.

This Museum holds all sort of events that involves the Latino culture. The art is amazing, though the exhibits are rather small. The shop has a great collection of merchandise and they do a really go job of bringing the community together in their events.

The Museam had decent art but the problem with it is that the time I was there in February, it didn't have a good quantity of art the fact that they made it free that time is why I give this 5 stars tho.

fun! go early to avoid the long lines to the rain forest. Wine was decently priced, $7 a glass. My favorites were the albino alligator, rain forest, aquarium and earthquake simulation...which was a 1989 flashback.

The museum had a dia los Muertos event in October, and it was very busy. Hard to find parking space because of the event because it was on a free museum day. There was plenty of rooms to see beautiful artwork. Definitely not disappointed on the artworks. Outdoors, there is a sculptural garden. There was food trucks as well as vendors at the event. They also had live music, dancers and ornate costumes. Come during the event, it’s very entertaining. It is handicap friendly. Restrooms available. And plenty of helpful staff.

They only had 3 artists on exhibit but I loved it! Was able to see the whole museum space in 45 mins. They have a lovely sculpture garden as well, but go there first as the garden closes down early.

Visited on a Sunday for free. The building itself is good-size but only about 30% is currently being utilized. They have a nice Botero exhibit, and then just one small room with a few other artists. The sculpture garden is nice to walk around. Would probably be really cool at night. If you appreciate art, its definitely worth the stop, but if you're not going to visit on a Sunday, call ahead to see how many exhibits are open

Decent. Beautiful art and architecture. Has great potential to put in a pond with some fish and exotic flora, which it lacks, and redesign it to add a few more floors. Otherwise awesome spot. Free entry on weekends. I have never been a big fan on abstract art but it was quiet, quaint, and very peaceful. Lastly and sadly to say, has limited displays.

The MOLAA was Empty! What did I pay for? Was it robbed? Where did all the wonderful Latin American Art go? The first 2 rooms I entered had NO ART on the walls. White walls with nothing on them. I did notice the wide open spaces, high ceilings and nice hardwood floor. Instead, there were some basic information boards displayed in English and Spanish about Spanish people. I could have googled that! When I entered a third very large empty room, I noticed "art", as there were 2 large brown murals on the walls. But that's it. The murals were not to my taste. The 2 very similar murals depicted tattooed people performing tasks such as one person on her cell phone, one person drinking beer, and one person getting a tattoo. In the background was a painted "floor-like" tile pattern. I left to see what was in the next room, and once again, the only thing in the room was 1 or 2 more of the same murals. We found a smaller room with two small scenes on tables. One had a "farm scene" and other had an "inventor and his invention" scene. There were also 2 small (18 inches?) screens with video of the 2 scenes coming to life. Okay, that was interesting... Last, we found a room with about 20 small place mat-sized fabric art pieces on the wall. Somewhere along the way was an area with "art" that was supposed to be waves (?) in abstract, but they weren't presented well (no frames, etc.) and looked... abstract. We were told about a sculpture garden, so we ventured to find it. Poor signage. We found ourselves walking outside along a narrow passageway between 2 buildings for about 50 feet to find the sculpture garden. It was an open stark cement area with about 10 sculptures (some in disrepair with paint peeling). When we returned to the lobby, we saw a group of performers yelling at each other, acting out a scene. I had really thought that MoLAA was going to be something special. This museum has GREAT bones and could and should be amazing. It should contain a variety of art and and has the capacity to hold a lot of amazing art. Maybe the curator could please visit some of the other museums around Los Angeles County, like, El Segundo (ESMoA), Los Angeles (LACMA, the Getty, the Broad Museam), and get inspired to fill the Art Museum with art!

  • 2/5 Aaron C. 8 months ago on Google
There is so much to offer from the latin art history and community. I hope this changes but we came and they said there was "2" exhibits. It was not a museum. It was sad. I'd appreciate if they were honest and closed when they were obviously closed instead of taking your money for one tiny room. They didn't give a refund instead they apologized (I guess points) and gave us tickets when they reopened with exhibits. Please don't commute here.

The reviews are accurate! The restaurant was clean and the staff was very professional and attentive. Our server, Luis Miguel, answered all our questions and was very genuine. The food was fantastic and the portions were large. A bonus was our server spoke English which helps since we don't speak Spanish.

  • 5/5 Karen G. 4 years ago on Google
You never know what's going to be on display here! The rotating exhibits are delightful. Very different from each other. Right now they're showing huge black and white photographs made of gunpowder! After the artist creates his images he lights them on fire! Each panel is at least 6 ft tall by 3 to 5 ft wide. Haunting images. In another gallery they have textile scenes sown by women protesting their governments in Chile. then you walk into the gift shop and it's a whole another gallery in and of itself. Yolanda Gonzalez's painted vases and bowls are truly amazing! Thursday nights the museum stays open late and they have guest artists present their wares in the foyer. Please stop by and support artists work.

Totally loved the place. How I wish we had more time to explore around but even so, the couple of hours we were there were all worth it. I went with my daughter and her 2nd grade class for a field trip. We all learned a lot in a short amount of time. The place was packed but still VERY clean. I just wish that the planetarium is much more available for everyone. The place also have shows for it's guests to enjoy.

Such an amazing museum. We were able to go after hours because our professional association for immigration lawyers rented it out. We went to the planetarium and it was beautiful. We missed out on a couple of things that also seemed so cool! I definitely recommend checking it out when you visit San Francisco.
