This place is decent but with so many better options around it, it's hard to justify going here. Food selection and beer selection is kinda limited. When I was there I wanted a sour beer and they had two options (seems light for an, "ale house"). I purchased one, tried a sip at the counter, it was horrible! I asked to replace it with the other. They said no and made me purchase the other second one. That type of customer service at a restuarant is just foolish. Someone doesn't know how to manage this establishment. That being said, so many new places have opened up around it and are in the area, you can pass on this one.

One of my faves to visit when hanging out downtown. The vibe is fun and decor is cool. Stained glass window at the bar and gothic looking chandeliers seems like being inside of a church haha. The guys bathroom is labeled Brothers and girls says Sisters. The creativity is just awesome! Food is good too!

Besides ( which was major set back in that weather) the A/C not working. The choices were good and the bartenders were knowledgeable.

Delicious chicken sandwich! Could use more spice for my personal taste but I like it to be obnoxiously spicy :p

I highly advise against eating here. I have eaten here twice before finally deciding to leave a review. The first time, my roommates and I got takeout with a pizza, burger, and chicken sandwich. When we brought our food home, we didn’t think it was anything special. It was filling, but it was just okay. This last visit was the nail in the coffin for me. We decided to give it another shot by eating there. We figured, maybe if the food is more fresh, it’ll be better? We were wrong. We all ordered burgers and fries this time. My roommates burgers were still “just okay.” Mine was also “just okay” until I took a bite of just the patty. It tasted wrong. It tasted very gamey and not like beef at all. I looked it up, and it’s a sign of spoiled meat. It’s rare for me to decide “I’m never eating here again”, but I draw the line at spoiled food. Don’t eat here.

This used to be my favorite spot. Consistently received great service, delicious food and great beer selection. Unfortunately, the changes made under new ownership/management have made the quality of this establishment drastically decline. The overpriced menu is mediocre Mexican fusion of some sort plus frozen food. The simplicity of the original Congregation menu, including fresh pizzas, sausages, salads and other delicious food items to pair with your beer are gone. I was there last month and decided to give it one last chance. I sat down at the high top table at the bar. The waiter welcomed me at first but simply forgot I was there. After 15 -20 mins of no water/drink being offered, or any acknowledgment of my presence or order, I left. The person sitting next to me had been waiting longer and left right after too. It’s disappointing. Giving 3 stars, there’s potential and I hope to see this place improve.

Abby themed bew pub serving mix between brewhouse and mexican food. I ordered the tatertots with nacho cheese that came with no cheese but i only remembered after leaving. The food was pretty good but service was terrible. As the food came out, I had to ask for silverware twice before getting up to get it myself. With better service, this place should be 4 stars.

The most frustrating part of our experience was the waiting. I think our waiter was the hostess as well and seemed overworked. It’s wasn’t that busy and so it was just poorly managed that evening. Parking is also kind of a pain in the area. The beer was good. The brats were good but the inefficient service will probably keep me from returning.

Before the world collapsed this was home base to me and a group of friends to begin a celebration for the end of a long work week. Despite the fact that it was usually packed, we were able to hear each other and have memorable nights that began here at the Congregation Ale House in Long Beach. My friends and I decided to meet here once again to see what it was like in the midst of this pandemic and I have to say it was a bit lonely. It was also a Wednesday, so that may be a big contributing factor. The food is great. I usually get the sweet potato fries with the curry ketchup and the chipotle mayo. The chicken sandwiches are tasty here and I get em with the tater tots. The selection of beer here is wonderful. There’s something for everyone. Now, I don’t go down the line to try every beer, but I love dark beer/stouts and I can always depend on this place to satisfy my thirst for them. The staff was very nice, attentive, and had great recommendations as to what to try next from their list of beers. Parking was easy to find and it’s really hard to miss if you’re driving by. It wasn’t the congregation that we were used to seeing but the quality hasn’t gone down. Started the night here with beer and conversations to wind down and it felt as though nothing had changed. We had an awesome time here yet again and it put us on track to have another one of those super late, surreal memorable nights that take you to the opposite ends of different cities to keep it going. It all started with this place. Can’t wait to do that again, Midweek or weekend, a great night out is a great night out.

I like beer and brats...had their house IPA and the Firestone brat with fries. Tasty brat on a bun with fried onions. The IPA was almost just a pale, I liked that too. Did I mention, I like beer and brats.

Came here on Labor Day. There was literally one server trying his best but had no other coverage. Even knowing the circumstances, and we trying to be patient, it was still an extremely frustrating situation. We placed our drinks and food order maybe 10-15 minutes after being sat down. We did not even get our DRINKS until maybe 45 min/hour later until after my partner inquired with the server after seeing multiple people get drinks and cocktails at the bar. Apparently he forgot about our order, and after getting the drinks, and likely over an hour wait at most, my partner just went up and got our food that had been sitting out there for who knows how long, which was cold and disappointing fish tacos with stale tortilla chips on the side. We were offered no utensils or napkins. After reading the reviews about the service and management change I’m not surprised at what happened today. I almost felt like walking out if we hadn’t already placed our food. Who’s idea was it to be opened and short staffed should have shown up to help. Several other people sat outside had also been waiting forever. First time coming here in a while and probably the last.

Friendly staff, great burgers and wings and fantastic beer. What more can you want in a brew pub?

Great selection of beer. Food was not too good. The service was great. The woman Diana was working alone, and did a wonderful job. Very nice and clean place!

I don't like to give 1 star when I don't receive any service, because I like to review the food and drinks. This place is getting a 1 star and I didn't even get seated. Couldn't get seated? No one talked to us... just brushed pass like we weren't there or were in the way. My husband finally asked someone if we had to wait to be seated and he motioned and said yes someone will seat you. Waited 10 minutes and went next door.

Prior to Covid, the Congregation served great pizza and burgers at lunch. During Covid, and until recently, their lunch service was shut down. But now they're open for lunch again. Today, I ordered a $21 (large) brewhouse pizza to pick up. It took over thirty minutes. The pizza was only about 12" across. The price is pretty steep for a 12 incher, but if the quality's there... It's not. The top outer crust was very burnt about a quarter of the way around. Hey, I don't mind a bit of char on my pie. In fact I think it adds to the overall taste. But this was square inches of inedible black flakes of carbon. And although the part of the outer crust was burnt, the center was raw. OK, so maybe the oven wasn't property preheated and they got caught behind the curve. The order was placed at 11:45 on a Friday morning. I could chalk that up to a onetime screwup. But the toppings were also problematic. The sausage was closer to a hotdog than a quality sausage. The sauce tasted like it came straight out of a can. I suspect there's been a major philosophy change in the Congregation's kitchen: where once they prioritized quality, now it's all about cost cutting. Sad. It was a great place for lunch.

Good food, bad service. My husband wasn’t brought his meal until the rest of the table had finished eating and our server didn’t give any kind of explanation or acknowledge that it was weird. This caused an issue for us because we have a young child and we needed to leave to get her home for bed. My husband also ordered a refill on his coke and the server never brought it. It was frustrating to see an automatic 20% tip added to our check because this is one of those very rare occasions where we would not have tipped as much.

Congregation continues to be an excellent spot for those who love top end beer and great pub food. The menu hasn't changed much over the years but continues to be outstanding and the duck sausage remains a favorite. The beer selection is well balanced and their should be something for everyone and those who love Belgian style beers will be extra happy. Well worth a visit.

They have a new vegan menu! I saw the sign walking by and decided to try. The chicken burger was really good. Had a honey mustard sauce on it which made it sticky but it tasted really good. Comes with vegan cheese that is great. Server was new but did a great job answering what she could. Definitely coming back to try all the vegan options.

Fantastic place. The beer selection was awesome, the sliders were the bomb, but most of all our server Diana was super cool and fun to talk to. We will definitely be back. Thank you Diana! You’re the best 😎

Was in for an event happy hour. Server took our order at the table, was tipped, and left 75 minutes later thirsty. Sliders were tasty but the bartenders / wait staff dropped the ball. They were packed for an event, but they still forgot (at least) an entire three tables drinks.

Great food, lovely atmosphere, and incredible service! I love that the kitchen is viewable from the bar as it creates a lovely space. I'm not a bar patron regularly as I don't drink, but this is a wonderful place to gather and munch!

This is a great place to hangout with friends after a long day at work. Great beers, great food and a great atmosphere. Make sure you ask for Lindsay, she is awesome.

It was pretty good. They had a decent selection of outside breweries. Plus their own beers are really tasty.

Great place to grab a drink and catch up with friends. The food is great even though they are smaller portions.

  • 4/5 Kelly W. 1 year ago on Google
The beers that they had on tap were very good, however, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just showed how much they're liked because they were out of several things.. The atmosphere was fabulous! We were going to get food if we hadn't already eaten. It smelled amazing!

I ordered the chicken fingers for $7 and the cheese plate. Delicious. Nice presentation. I just loved it. I sat outside. It was a gorgeous day and this place is right off Pine (one block East) and 2nd St. right in the center of Long Beach. Fun for people watching. A nice, classy spot for St. Patrick's Day. I also think they have great service with the exception of one weird moment. My drink (just whiskey on ice) had lipstick from someone else on the glass. When I told the bartender he dumped the contents of the cup into another cup and handed it back to me...savage. I was too shocked to say anything but I'm not a germaphobe so whatever. Lol maybe next time remake the drink all together? Looking back it's pretty gross. But taken as a whole this place is great and so is the service. This was a one off.

Service and food were great. I had the Diablo burger and Rapture tots. Very tasty.

Burgers were so-so. They lacked the grilled on a flame taste. The beer list was mediocre and the Rittin in Black was lacking in flavor. They charge extra for fries.

HUGE selection of beers/cocktails/wines and the brats/appetizers were great. Came on a Wednesday for trivia night, definitely on the longer side but still a good time. Friends liked the Gimlet cocktail.

For the first time there the staff was friendly and outstanding. The food was great and a great selection of beer. I suggest trying crimson.
