American Steak & Fries is a hidden treasure of Pine Ave in Long Beach. Located a few blocks north of the downtown commotion, AS&F stands proudly on the corner of Pine and 7th. This tiny location sports only a few outdoor seats, so plan to take your food with you unless you are lucky enough to score a spot. The restaurant itself is a simple operation, offering not much other than sandwiches and fries, which they do great! I have had both the steak and chicken sandwiches and loved them both, they are a fantastic alternative to fast food burgers and the like. The sandwiches themselves are your standard grilled fare on a long bun. Back on the east coast we usually had our steak sandwiches as cheesesteaks, with only steak, peppers onions and sometimes mushrooms, and tons of cheese! At this restaurant by default they put lettuce, tomato and mayo, which I opt out of, but if thats your thing there you go! Their other sandwiches are simply variations on the formula. I could only offer one criticism, that it would be awesome to have more sturdy, hearty rolls to build the sandwiches on. When I get a sandwich to go, by the time I walk it home (only a couple blocks), it can become a soggy (yet delicious) mess! I blame this on the bread, being fragile, thin and absorbent. Perhaps if they used a more substantial roll it would hold up better. The bread they use now does NOT ruin the sandwich mind you, this is merely an improvement I could think of to make this place legendary.

Stopped by steak and fries with my boyfriend. Was skeptical at first but once I walked in the service was super friendly and the premium steak sandwich and fries was delicious !!!!! Definitely coming back !

Want something quick and cheap food in the center of downtown, well this place is the best place to go. You can tell the folks who are in charge really care about the quality of the food. They are kind and respectful. They also take debit cards if you don't have cash in hand. Overall would come again.

I come to this unique place every couple of days since I enjoy the good mood that is exist in this place. The personel is highly loyal and qualified. The service is extraordinarily rapid. Most important, the food they cook is magnificent. I visited more than once and I was always pleased. The price is decent. I highly recommend this restaurant to to everybody.

This restaurant is no doubt one of the best place in the neighborhood. Whenever I visit this place I am highly happy. They hold their very high standard service and the topmost level of cooking they offer. You will be always satisfied with this place. Very recommended.

They are almost never open and their cheese steak sandwiches leave much to be desired. Their fries are okay, and their service is decent. Sure, we can walk to this place, but we're always left wanting :-(

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I love subs and fries and the food at this place is the best I've had since I've been in California. The staff is friendly and that prices are moderate. I LOVE the Chicken Sub, check it and them out if you find yourself in Downtown Long Beach 😁

Very elegant and welcoming restaurant. They serve generous meals and for fair prices. I enjoyed the menu very much and the waiters were very personal and informative. Will definitely recommend this restaurant.

The sandwich was excellent. Fast and friendly service. Just a little North of the nice section of town. But great food!
