I'd
thought
that
all
of
the
local
Marie
Callender's
restaurants
had
closed
years
ago
and
was
surprised
to
find
this
location
still
open,
albeit
in
a
smaller,
scaled-down
building.
I
hopped
in
my
car
to
go
get
my
favorite
soup
and
pie
slice.
I
ended
up
ordering
the
soup
and
two
slices.
There
were
only
a
couple
of
people
placing
orders
ahead
of
me
at
the
counter.
I
got
my
order
and
arrived
home
to
find
that
the
cornbread
(for
the
soup)
was
not
in
the
bag.
Instead,
there
was
a
slice
of
cheesecake
that
I'd
heard
a
customer
ahead
of
me
order.
I
called
to
make
them
aware
of
it,
mentioning
that
the
other
customer
was
probably
missing
a
slice
of
cheesecake.
Her
reply
was
that
it
was
"fine"
because
the
other
customer
also
discovered
the
issue
and
came
back
to
get
their
cake,
the
staff
had
been
busy
and
made
the
error
(no
apology
for
the
inconvenience
to
me
yet,
and
the
place
wasn't
exactly
crowded
when
I
was
there),
and
at
least
I
got
a
free
piece
of
cake,
she
opined.
I
told
her
that
this
wasn't
the
point
because
I
didn't
have
cornbread
for
my
soup
and
the
last
thing
I
needed
on
top
of
two
slices
of
pie
was
a
slice
of
cheesecake.
She
proceeded
to
defend
her
point,
calling
me
"Love"
repeatedly
(even
after
I
objected),
repeated
that
I
was
more
than
welcome
to
come
back
to
pick
up
the
cornbread
(which
was
not
going
to
be
worth
the
gas,
time,
and
energy),
and
finally
there
was
a
weak
apology
somewhere
in
all
of
that,
but
it
came
too
late
and
seemed
insincere
given
her
dismissive
attitude
and
insistence
on
calling
me
"Love"
(like,
where
in
anyone's
Customer
Service
101
training
does
it
say
to
address
a
customer
this
way?).
To
top
it
all
off,
it
turned
out
that
she
was
the
MANAGER
at
the
location.
Scary.
To
be
clear,
my
intent
had
been
to
make
them
aware
of
the
error
and
a
simple
apology
would
have
sufficed,
since
driving
back
to
get
the
missing
cornbread
would
not
have
made
sense
in
my
situation.
I
hadn't
expected
the
response
I
got
and
was
so
incensed
that
I
chose
to
write
this
review.
My
soup
was
good
and
I'm
sure
my
pie
will
be
good,
but
needless
to
say,
I
will
not
be
returning
to
this
location.
Bad
customer
service
is
bad
customer
service,
and
I'm
afraid
that
not
all
instances
of
it
can
be
explained
away
by
the
Covid
situation.
Covid
has
become
a
scapegoat
for
all
kinds
of
bad
behavior,
just
like
inflation
has
become
a
scapegoat
for
some
questionable
price
hikes.
Yes,
many
individuals
and
businesses
suffered
and
are
suffering
from
both
problems,
but
these
issues
aren't
to
blame
in
all
instances.
Sometimes
people
are
just
not
very
good
at
their
jobs.
