Excellent coffee….my first time visiting here with a friend. Unfortunately they were out of lots of things on their menu. I really think that’s a positive thing too…very friendly atmosphere and staff is so sweet and welcoming…definitely will not be the last time I come here after my morning stroll…our coffees were great and the bagel was yummy. Inside is open they have tables outside too..following the COVID regulations and social distancing so if you’re in this side of Long Beach come try them out…

Atmosphere is really comfortable, but pastries are lacking. They serve coffee in real mugs, but you have to ask for it. Even if you say it's for here, they'll automatically serve it in "compostable" plastic cups. Most of the people get their coffee to-go, and then drink from single-use cups in the dining room. It feels awful.

Hot Java is the best coffee shop around this part of LB, hands down. I've tried them all and I recommend HJ to everyone. That said, I have a wishlist for the place. * Most of the tables are large. It's hard to find somewhere to sit in private during peak hours. * Please put out a self service water dispenser.

UPDATED 2022: Big turn around at this location. Everything is cleaner and the staff now is excellent (beyond excellent). Went from zero to hero. Love this place now, love the staff there. Bravo. thanks for the attention. I have updated my rating to a well deserved 5-stars. Old Review (no longer relevant): I generally like a couple of their drinks but it's a mounting set of observations that make this place earn a lower rating today. 1. At least the last 4x i have been there i haven't ordered any pastry because there is always flies or nats crawling and landing all over the food. Pastries with bugs all over doesn't do for me. 2. The outdoor seating is not cleaned very well and the areas where the seating is definitely isn't cleaned very well. Also the seating they have is a little janky, like the table shaking all the time. Basically just very cheap furniture. 3. They have the most archaic credit card system. Literally every time you need to put your credit card in the employee has to sit and hold it so it doesn't move around. Not very sanitary when we're all trying to not touch the same things during Covid. 4. Customer service should be re-evaluated. I literally walked in two minutes before they closed, while customers were still getting drinks, and I was told "sorry we're closed" as I pointed out the time and showed the time to the female barista, she said, "oh, we just shut everything down". The comedy of the whole situation was then she proceeded to give the other customers there two drinks. Just pure laziness from the employee. It's unfortunate, I live in the area I had started to go to this place more and more. There are other options but I'll keep trying them and give updates but some things could be reviewed and perhaps even made better. I'm rooting for you Hot Java. This picture is of me leaving at 5:59 p.m. a minute before they close and two customers who just got their drinks walking out. Management and ownership should review. Pure silliness.

Stopped by for a little down time and a cup of Joe and was seriously pleased with how delicious my latte was! Deep, rich flavor. Perfect amount of foam - just right. Nice atmosphere too. I highly recommend.

The bagels were excellent, soft and light while still chewy, it's not a dense bagel but some new twist that's lighter with a more airy dough and it was excellent, I really enjoyed it. I got the sun dried tomato cream cheese, also very good, creamy and tomato-ey. The iced latte was great as well, and the staff were very friendly with excellent service. The place is popular and I see why, will definitely be visiting again.

When I'm visiting the US, I come by here many mornings, grab a unique beverage, then catch some rays at the park. It's great!

Need a ciggy and a coffee, come here. Value your lungs, avoid it. In the 21th century with the awesome values of cancer proved, why have a designated smoking section?

hot java has one major thing going for it: the location. it's got shaded outdoor seating (although it could use more tables), it's near the beach, and it's on a pleasant corner on broadway & junipero. but otherwise, it's extremely unremarkable. the drinks are mid at best, the baristas often seem to give a "don't bother me" vibe (i don't take it personally but it is, undeniably, a bummer), and they have a very small selection of food. oddly, you also can't add sugar & cream to your own drinks. they keep it behind the counter.

Great location. Temperamental customer service. Often get your order wrong and don’t apologize. Okay coffee if they don’t burn the milk using their hand as a temperature gauge. Flies in the bakery case. Employees seem like they don’t enjoy working there. Seems to be riding in its laurels and ownership seems indifferent. Many other friendlier coffee houses in Long Beach.

Absolutely love this cafe. It has very cozy vibes, good cafe, and delicious pastries. The seating is surprisingly comfortable as well. Will probably become a regular here.

I would love to hang out at hot Java, but they close so early. The library coffeehouse is open until 11pm.

They don't usually put your sweetener in your coffee so I grabbed sweetener. From the kiosk and gave it to the barista to put in my coffee my large fore shot espresso Latte. When I tasted it I albob sparfed he did not put the sugar and I was very upset because I specifically gave him the packets to puthen

Love this little gem in LB! I was looking for a quiet spot to study that had accessible parking, and this spot was it! I have been here a few times before however, it's been a few years and I must say the environment is just as I remembered it to be; quiet, welcoming, and cozy. I ordered the soy chorizo breakfast burrito with an oat milk latte, and both were savoring. The best part about it was the service and the fact that it is so LGBTQ+ friendly. Thank you Hot Java staff for providing a welcoming study environment.

Strange place, unwelcoming staff. I bought a yogurt, oj and coffee and all three of them tasted off - like the food had gone bad. I spent $16 including tip on food I just threw away, the staff was not helpful, I won’t be back

The latte was average and the price was also about average. Good milk alternatives but no gluten free option. The outside seating seems to be tables and chairs put on the sidewalk and not separated out. Parking can be difficult. The drink was made quickly but might have been due to not a lot of people being there

The manager decides to close out his drawer and transfer in a new one. Finally after 10 minutes of just waiting the nice barrister asked me if he could get me started on a beverage while I wait... That should have been the first thing to begin with while we are all waiting for this employee to count his drawer in front of everyone and not in a back office like normal business does. That being said I always try to give this establishment chances but that's my last $8 Late I order from here!

I’m a bit torn scoring Hot Java this low as I’ve enjoyed the people, creative energy, and ambiance necessary to help me work best. Hot Java can potentially be one of the best work/study spots in Long Beach. My most significant warning is for those who require the internet to work. I’ve lost so many hours of work trying to connect to the wifi. Restating my computer, forgetting the network, and all of the other tips the generous cashiers offer. Most MAC users have this common issue. It’s happened so long that now I usually go there with hard copy files to complete my work. Not sure why it’s stayed an issue for so long. Should they invest in a solution for the long term- this would be hands down the best place in LB outside of the home to do work and meet up for casual business dates. Also the coffee is great here.

I loved their seasonal pistachio latte. It was delicious and also their dark mocha! ♥️ great service.

Great lil coffee shop with pastries too. We are out of town visitors and they took good care of us 3 days in a row. Plus they have tasty breakfast items too.

One of the best vanilla oat milk lattes I’ve ever had! Avocado toast was also delish. I love the indoor/outdoor atmosphere for warm weather days and the cozy fireplace for cool weather. Perfect location to get some coffee as a jumping off point to a walk to the beach, the park, down Broadway or Ocean.

Simple and easy menu options. Had the lavender lemonade and fruit. Sat outside but because parking is challenging a car double parked right in front of us and was blasting their music while they waited 🙃

I'm sorry I love my community. How ever this coffee shop has to be the slowest one I've ever mess with . They people in thr back on there phones while we wait for our already paid drinks

There’s something special about the iced latte. Best cup I’ve had in awhile! HJ is an oldie but Goodie here in Long Beach.

I think this is my new favorite coffee hangout! There was a bit of a line, but it was clear why after a little bit. The place supports the LGBTQ* community, which is always important to me. And their skinny mocha Java Blast definitely didn't TASTE skinny at all! Friendly staff, cool vibe... will definitely be coming back with friends!

It has a nice chill vibe especially by the fireplace. Plenty of outlets and USB ports for the text savvy and a super clean bathroom....you couldn't ask for more from a coffee shop.

Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the espresso. It really is not good quality and/or they let the shots die before they make the whole drink. Which I only had shots over ice. Which really changes the flavor of the drink. It tastes like burnt coffee and kind of upset my stomach. The employee was very sweet though. I only had the espresso.

One of my favorites local coffee places in Long Beach. Everytime I come here the staff is so friendly and engaging. They also have an amazing tasting light roast that does change throughout the months. Everytime I'm in the area, I always grab a cup. I highly recommend this coffee shop!

Mask mandates to the point of discomfort. If you are a libertarian, freedom, type of individual who stays informed regarding the pandemic, you probably will not enjoy the atmosphere here. Seriously, the CDC admitted anything short of an N95 is a useless muzzle. Even N95 masks have no solid data for the last two strains, but lets dig in our heels more and obsess. Ur cafe is practically open air. Why keep up with the theatrics? What's funny is the unearned moral superiority that its woke clientele project, looking at you enter maskless as they sip their lattes in-between raising up and down their masks.
