This
Boots
is
really
pretty
good.
The
self
checkout
machines
here
are
very
sensitive,
so
you
can
launch
your
meal
deal
across
the
scanner
with
absolute
reckless
abandon
as
the
small
act
of
excitement
within
your
working
day.
The
meal
deals
themselves
also
outshine
competitors,
I
will
walk
past
the
work
cafeteria,
two
Tescos,
and
even
a
Waitrose
for
Boots’
‘No
Chicken
Salad’
sandwich.
Miles
ahead
of
the
game.
The
checkouts
themselves
often
have
a
considerable
queue
at
lunch
time,
despite
the
sheer
number
of
machines
available.
The
layout
of
the
checkout
area
means
unless
you’re
hyper
focused
on
the
situation
at
hand
you
can
struggle
to
see
any
free
machines
between
the
mass
of
bodies
all
desperate
for
their
sandwiches.
The
attendants
try
their
best
to
herd
people,
but
there’s
really
only
so
much
you
can
do.
Over
the
new
year
my
partner
came
over
from
Cardiff,
and
was
shocked
at
the
sheer
size
and
range
of
the
store.
I’d
never
really
thought
about
it,
but
perhaps
this
makes
sense
with
Boots
being
a
Nottingham
company!
This
particular
Boots
store,
much
to
its
credit,
lacks
the
sense
of
ennui
that
seems
present
in
most
others:
the
Riverside
branch
makes
me
feel
like
I
might
have
ended
up
in
Purgatory.
Not
the
Victoria
Centre
store
though,
I’ll
keep
coming
back
here
until
I
find
a
better
job
or
Hell
freezes
over
