Hermits Cave is part of Hermits Wood on the outskirts of Dale Abbey village. It is a nice place to visit to see a little bit of history or just to walk and look at the scenery. Park on the small main road opposite the Carpenters Arms pub and then walk down the hill looking for sign directions. In wet weather it is difficult under foot in places so be careful

Great place for the family to investigate. If you stay on the lower path from either Dale Abbey or Woodpecker hill entrance, it's better underfoot. The higher path is more interesting but harder for those impaired.

Yet another splendid local walk around Dale Abbey and the Hermits Cave. We are so lucky to have many walks around the Ilkeston area.

The Hermitage caves were a nice walk, it is a small cave with open field and a forest that you can walk through it. It is suitable for kids walk in the forest, the caves and climb uphill to see the farm, as for the car park can hold at least 10-15 cars.

I have visited the hermitage a couple of times in March 2021 great to see the old Abbey archway towering high. The hermitage itself is up a steep incline and has a well kept path but very uneven underfoot and with steps up to the hermits Cave itself, there is a small amount of on t Road parking about 10 mins walk from the cave in either direction but there are some wonderful walks, starting at nearby stanton by dale and doing a 10km Country loop you can visit the hermitage, a then a cafe on route to a small alpaca farm before heading back via the Risley lanx ending back at stanton by dale with a choice of pubs

Ancient monument in woodland. Steep steps up to the caves but interesting to look at. Around 1130 AD a baker in Derby called Cornelius had a dream, in which the Virgin Mary (mother of Jesus) told him to go to Depedale (the old name for this place) and worship God. The baker responded to God's call and came here. He dug the cave in the hillside and lived in it for about 20 years.

Historic place to visit. Wear sturdy shoes for the steep steps UpTo the hermitage. Plenty of interesting footpaths to explore.

Great place to take children but stick to the paths. Lovely area to walk around in and in spring the bluebells are out in the wooded area before the caves.

A small but interesting little piece of history dating back almost a thousand years it's on the route of a 5.5 mile circular walk and worth a slight detour up the short hill for a gander.

Lovely short walk, and the cave gives so much imagination to how it once was live in. Steep hill to climb but steps are there. If you don't like going down steep steps, maybe this isn't for you. Decent foot wear needed, especially if it's been raining as wet and muddy, but as long as you're prepared for that then it's not a problem. Personally I really enjoyed it.
