Went to Milestones with the family, including 2 children and 4 adults during half term. What an amazing place. We paid £16 each for entry but it gives you an annual pass for a year. There was plenty for the children to do, and they had put on lots of games that kept the two kids occupied for 5 hours. The adults in the group also enjoyed the games but got chance to actually look at the living museum too. One thing everyone loves and is a nice addition is the sweet shop, buy a ration card and then you can use it to get some sweeties. It has a working pub (with regulars too) and a nice little cafe. We'll be going back soon in term time just with the wife to explore the museum.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Visiting the Milestones Museum in Basingstoke was truly a journey through time that exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the meticulous attention to detail in every corner of this remarkable museum. Walking through the recreated streets felt like stepping back in time to the bustling Victorian era, with authentic shops, houses, and even a pub that truly brought history to life. One of the highlights of our visit was exploring the interactive exhibits, which offered hands-on experiences that were both educational and entertaining. From trying our hand at traditional crafts to learning about the evolution of transportation through vintage cars and trains, there was something fascinating to discover at every turn. What truly sets Milestones Museum apart is the passion and dedication of the staff. Their enthusiasm for history was infectious, and they were more than happy to share their knowledge and stories with us, enhancing our overall experience. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a family looking for a fun day out, or simply curious about the past, I cannot recommend Milestones Museum highly enough. It's a hidden gem in Basingstoke that deserves to be celebrated for its immersive and engaging approach to preserving local history. A five-star experience that left us eager to return and explore even more!

I'm probably being harsh giving 3 stars since I did enjoy my visit, however, everything was not quite so interactive for kids 2-8 as the website had seemingly implied. Especially as there was only one bus which you were allowed to get on while the website video seemed to advertise more, my two year old was dying to get on everything! I definitely think there is a missed opportunity to make things more interactive and kid friendly, and/or provide a bigger kids play space as the area next to the cafe was tiny (it was closed on my visit as well!). Parents would be visiting in troves to entertain the kids on rainy days if there was some tweaks to various equipment/vehicles and displays. Overall, enjoyable day out but some improvements could be made.

Lovely place to visit, great value - the ticket lasts for the year. Old shops, schools, arcades, vehicles, the lot! Feels really authentic. Very nice to see things the way they have been done. Great family day/half day out. Not expensive at all. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area/local or looking for something to do!

Milestones is a truly amazing place! A brilliant living history museum comprising of many shops, houses and factories all re-created under one huge roof. Many of the staff are dressed in period costumes and look most impressive. There are lots of things to do, to look at, and to entertain. A big gift shop area is included, and the vintage tea tent is a must for delicious tea and cakes. I would certainly give Milestones five stars except for the fact that although the service in the Rooftops Restaurant was fast and friendly, we found the quality of the food a little below par.... But don't let that put you off a visit.... It's still a great day out!

This is a great place to visit on a rainy day as it is all under cover. We went on a busy half term day so there were a lot of people there and the queue for the Victorian sweet shop extended almost the length of the building. We ate at the ground floor stall and this was overpriced for what it was. Staff were friendly and helpful. Interesting displays through history and a good mix of eras.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The museum itself is good, not excellent. There's lift access for wheelchairs. The car park isn't big but then again nor is the museum. There are lots of little activities/games for children but some of these activities are in the smallest of areas where the public would have to squeeze round the outside single file in one direction to look and read the exhibits displayed, just move it out a little. There is an old pub there which does sell alcohol and kids can get a ration of sweets (if you pay for it with the ticket) which is good. The cafe and shop are what you expect with some food and items overpriced as we all know will be. Overall I would say it is worth the ticket price and going especially for smaller children and maybe some of the elderly (be warned it is cobblestone flooring so if you/they are unsteady make sure you/they take extra care).

I could spend all day here, doesn't look very big when you go in but it is like the tardis! The man at the counter when we went in was great, really enthusiastic & had great customer service. The exhibits are really good,as you wander around the streets you can pop into the sweet shop with your ration book & even get a drink in the pub! Definitely recommend this to people of any age.

Lovely heritage museum. Lots to see and enjoy. Allow 2 to 4 hours for your visit depending upon how much you want to dwell and reminisce. Especially if you use the free Audio Guides - we spent 4 hours and skipped some of the Audio Guide sections. Don't miss the sweet shop that sells old style sweets or the pub for a pint, which opens at lunchtime. There's a nice café over looking the museum streets. It does hot lunches as well as tea, coffee and cakes. Also there's a well stocked gift shop - good for old fashioned gifts. All good. 😎 👍

Very nice museum, plenty to see for the elderly and beautiful exhibits. Ground floor is where the displays are and 1st floor is learning. Top floor theres a nice cafe for a coffee tea & cake. Small shop with plenty of souvenirs and there's an outside covered area for a picnic or just a breath of fresh air. Spent a couple of hours here and had a lovely time with our Dementia Care Home. Gave it 4 stars as we thought there could be a lot more exhibits, but we did like the place a lot and will be back again soon.

Fabulous day out. Was so lovely to walk the cobbled streets and look at the old transport and emergency vehicles etc. Lots of things to look at and we really enjoyed playing the old arcade games with real old one penny’s. The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable and welcoming. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back for sure ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Really awesome. Fabulous experience. Definitely recommend. So interactive. Loads to see. Spent the whole day there! The pub is brilliant! Loved the live piano! Would be more historic if the sweet shop let you chose more than 1 type. That's the only thing that was disappointing.... I'd love them to have a doctors surgery and pharmacy. And working door bells as all the kids wanted those! The cafe was OK but food and drinks not hot enough. Good variety though. But I would prefer no disposable cups and plates. Totally unnecessary when the museum are celebrating reduced fuel use at the same time.

Great family outing, only suggestion... have more vehicles (even if they aren't actually historic artifacts) that kids can touch, the lower deck of a bus and the passenger seat of a fire engine (I thought the fire engine was good, my toddler desperately wanted to drive it). The old penny arcade on the 'pier' was great fun.

A really lovely place to visit. The attention to details was amazing, they even made sure there were authentic smells in each area - for example, a place that had a fireplace, smelled like fire and coal, and a place that was to do with laundry, smelled of detergent. We even managed to get some sweets by presenting a ration book to the shop! We had loads of fun that day.

A wonderful trip back in time! This museum is well designed and takes you through the local history in a very atmospheric way. It really comes alive with its victirian streets, trades, and shops. You get to buy a "ration card" when you enter (£1.85) and use it to buy 2oz of sweets in the little sweet shop. It is a really interactive way for children to get to understand the changing periods of times and how they affected people living then. Nice little coffee shop with limited hot food, and snacks. Also, a fascinating gift shop selling all kinds of associated memorabilia from postcards to toys and old fashioned games and sweets. The only thing that was unexpected was that purchases made had the price, then vat was added separately on the receipt! Overall, fully recommended and much to learn about here.

What a 'find'. Super museum with buildings/shops set up as they would have been in the victorian era...lots to see. Recommend getting the free audio tour aid as it tells you so much about the history of the buildings and the people that would have worked in them. Excellent for all ages. The attention to detail is brilliant...look out for the little sparrows in the saw mill, the cats fighting on the roof and pigeon!

Great museum overall. A unique place to visit with lots of things to see. The old vehicles and old street layouts were wonderful. The museum experience is great, although I only rate it 3/5 as I got stuck in the small lift with my partner and baby. The staff tried their best to help but i ended up having to pull the doors apart myself. We fot a free pot of tea for the trouble though.

This place depicts how exactly Basingstoke was back in the 19 hundreds, it is a good place to take children and adults can join them and well 😊, it might refresh some old memories for the older people, would rate it a decent visit 👍

A fascinating chance to touch, live and breath history. All undercover so no problems if the weather is not good! It,s worth picking up a walk around audio guide like a small phone. Also loads for kids to do and get involved with, plus lots to interest big kids (adults) The old fashioned sweet shop is a must to visit. We had a great day out here!

A wonder museum for the whole family, plenty of space too. Tge buildings all looks so real, a jog down memory lane with the toys, sweets, school room, kitchen gadgets etc etc. Fascinating and very interesting. Easy to spend 3+ hours or more here, cafe for refreshments too.

It's an ideal place for younger kids, and it was popular for primary school trips as it has lots to explore Inc. teddy bear museum/shop. You can also purchase a ration book for sweets at the old-fashioned sweet shop. The cafe food was lovely, staff friendly. We purchased tickets on the day, as you still have to queue up, but it didn't take long. Good place to visit on a wet day.

This museum was hands down the best museum I have ever been to. It does not look like much from the outside but once you are inside and onto the streets you are taken back to the 1940 There is a pub, cafe, sweet shop and even a place to buy your 30s toys Well worth a visit

Excellent day out. Lots of history and much of it is interactive so the kids love it. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Looking at the calendar of events, we'll be making use of the annual free entry too. Well worth a visit.

A lovely day out with the kids. A very relaxed environment with lots of parking on arrival. The place has lots of activities and is well-sign posted. Great arcades section - but do go armed with 50p coins as they will be needed, if you want to avoid using card payments. The older retro games require card payment via onsite money converter. There is a decent cafe on the ground floor with a reasonable selection of warm/cold food and a good selection of drinks. The nostalgic bar is pretty cool which serves real old Skool ales!! Well worth a visit and there are a number of places to eat close by if the cafe doesn’t suit.

Fun, interesting and educational...Lots to see and do. A place for a must visit. People dressed in authentic period costume wander around for you to interact with. Get your ration book and buy some sweets or visit the teddy bear store. Buy a pint and have a sing song around the piano in the in-house pub. Visit the fantastic shop upstairs which is filled with fascinating goodies. I visit a lot to sketch there.

We spent a Sunday afternoon here as a family of 4 (two children under 10). Both children enjoyed seeing all the old vehicles but they wished there were more things that they could go on. They found the Teddy Bear museum very interesting and enjoyed seeing the old sweet shop and toy shop. The ticket lasts for a year so it's great value for money if you live in the general area as there are different events throughout the year.

  • 5/5 Inga C. 2 years ago on Google
It is an amazing experience!!! It was pretty busy because it's a place for everyone from kids (yong age) to elderly people. We spend there 2 hours and even didn't feel that. There is a cafe inside if u get hungry. And there is a gift shop at the entrance/exit wich u going on your way out. Prices are a bit too high but thats in all the gift shops.

I am advising here especially rainy days. We have been there all Sunday until close time. This museum explains lots of things about English culture and history. We spent really good time in gameplay area. Don’t forget to buy your historical candy. There has many activities go kids. Just cafe was little small, we waited long line

I've lived in the area for many years and have never visited before until yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit, loads to see. The little olden day pub is a nice touch, the ale on tap is superb! Great day out as a family, nice activities for the kids. I would recommend getting the sweet voucher if you have any kids, this allows you to use the old sweet shop and exchange the voucher for actual sweets.

What an absolute gem of a place. We (two adults) didn't know what to expect but we loved it. The pier was SUCH fun, the victorian streets made us feel like we were in the 1930S, loved every minute and will definitely be back!! Highly recommended.
