Popped in here for a nightcap on a Friday night. The parking lot is a bit small, but we found a spot right next to the entrance. We were greeted warmly and when we walked inside, found some wonderful live piano music! Everything is decked out in authentic German decor, and the place is huge. There are two levels, the downstairs with inside seating, and the upstairs that has the outdoor bar on the roof, a small inside dining nook, a small inside bar with a few stools, the bathrooms and a cigarette machine, which I must say is probably what makes this one of the most authentic German spots in LA. The menu is comprehensive and the food is great! We came for a drink but ended up getting the split pea soup which was delightful with the bread it came with. This place is a bit of a trek from the west side, but we always try to come here if we're anywhere in the vicinity.

Pretty cool place to check out. We hung out for a while and ordered the pretzel platter, sausage platter, and flights/beers. Our original server was just ok, but I would come back again. Their parking lot is very small and at least 2 of the spots are reserved for tenants who live next store, but there is metered and non metered street parking near by.

Relaxed German tavern with an outdoor patio good for big groups. Came here on a group of three on a Monday around 2 and sat ourselves outside. They have self-service water with condiments at both sides, and there are plenty of tables good for big groups. Street parking as well as a small lot was available. Credit cards and cash are accepted. There are bathrooms available inside and there is an indoor dining space as well, although no one was sitting in there when we went. It was happy hour at the time we were there, and so we opted to grab some fish and chips (comes with three pieces of fish) and potato pancakes (comes with 3 pieces as well). The fish and chips came piping hot and the curry ketchup was sooooo good (you get this from the condiments table). The potato pancakes were nicely fried and came with sour cream, apple sauce, and a jam. We also had a Groupon deal for a sausage platter which was good to serve three people who had just gone on a hike at Griffith. There were three different types of sausages, all of which were cut up into smaller pieces and were all equally delicious. Overall, it’s a casual spot to grab some German food and drinks

As a German Immigrant I approve of this restaurant. Sehr gut. Some of the food doesn’t taste exactly like it’s German counter part but we’re not in Germany and most people wouldn’t notice the difference anyway. The beers are on point. Covid adding the new permanent outdoor eating space made the place twice as good. Does get very busy on weekend evenings. So keep that in mind. I’ve waited 30min multiple times. In an unintentional extension of German culture The cha cha lounge across the street is one of the few places in the city that has foosball.

Great authentic German food. Eat upstairs in one of their hidden rooms and watch your food come up on a real working dumbwaiter from the kitchen. It does get a little noisy and rowdy.

Great atmosphere. Awesome German beer selection available by the half and full liter. Got the sausage platter, large serving, three different sausages, all really tasty.

Went for my sister's birthday and the staff was very accommodating. The waitress answered all our questions and made recommendations that were very helpful. The food was also great and in good portions. We will definitely be going back soon.

A friend took me here for the first time and I enjoyed it! The beer selection was great and the Hungarian Goulash yummy! We sat upstairs at the little bar where our server was so knowledgeable on the menu and friendly! I would definitely go back.

Found this place because of an awesome Groupon they have where you can get 2 cute/funny beer steins and a sausage platter for a great price! And I’m so happy we came here The atmosphere is so fun and definitely has little German village vibes and it’s pretty big! There’s an hug outside seating area, beirgarten, piano lounge bar, upstairs dining, and cool little upstairs bar The service is great here and the sausage platter was delicious! I do wish it came with some bread though Best of all the beer was super yummy! 100% recommend this restaurant/bar

Food is good and service was great. Silvia is awesome, my only complaint is that the kitchen kept messing up the orders. Try the Rüdesheimer Kaffee made by Silvia in the middle bar (December Sundays only) they're so good!

I'm not an expert on German food but the brunch that I had was absolutely lovely. We were in a router large group and it was a cold day so we were outside and in the summer I think it would be lovely. Little chilly. But back to the food. Food the food was really good. I had the hash which was not the normal hash that I would expect but it was good. Some of my other friends had omelets or potato pancakes and all the food looked and tasted delicious. We had a lovely day and it's a very very large place which you don't recognize driving by from the street. I'd like to go back in the evening and try a dinner there perhaps, but I do want to go back

Ambience is amazing. We sat at the bar and ordered directly from the bartender. Don't ask her how to pronounce some of the beers cause she'll say it's pronounced how she already said it lol. We would still come back though cause service is still good.

This place has amazing food and quality service, except for one middle aged lady from the second floor, her service was awful and would deliberately ignore you or give you attitude when finally given attention. Anyway, the beer was of great quality with a varied selection, the food was delivered promptly and tasted fresh, and the decor seemed authentic and has its own history. The few complaints I have are that the restrooms are too small and aren't as clean. The amount of seating available isn't the best and may result in having to either stand or leave all entirely. Oh and there isn't much parking. Love the place, been coming here since the Mid 2000s and will continue coming in the future. Highly recommended, just avoid the second floor lady.

I love this place, but had a pretty terrible service experience my last visit and I’m not sure I’ll be back. I ordered a pitcher and patty-melt to share with my friend. We sat there and drank two pitchers before our patty melt arrived, it took easily over and hour and had been sitting under the warmer for probably that whole time. The server seemed drunk and clearly forgot about us the entire evening- even had to go up to the bar to finally get the bill we had already asked for. She gave use excuse after excuse about how a group of 40 came in. Ask for help then! Give our table to someone else! $100 bill later- yeah we won’t be back.

We're been coming here for a long time and service and kitchen is not the same. Ordered the smoked Eisbein and came boiled. Was told it was smoked by the kitchen. Not true! Also if truly smoked appropriately it wouldn't have hair on it. Come on Red Lion! I know you can do better!

Good luck finding parking along the street, your better off parking at the bank of America down the street and walking the distance since you'll need to burn off the hefty and massive meal you're about to consume. I'm not German nor an alcoholic but when I walked into the establishment I felt a sense of pride and uniqueness, hanging beer cups on the ceiling I knew I was drinking tonight. German posts, a cigarette machine upstairs, craft beer barrels, and our lovely der Kellner waiter told us to sit where we like, as we accommodated ourselves I could sense a cozy, intimate and individual view of the place, a truly unique experience. As we browsed the menu what caught my attention was the selection of beers, my goodness, they have a menu just for beer and alcohol and I just couldn't decide, let alone from the large variety of sausages they carry. As we try to scramble and mumble the German words of the menu, we didn't have to wait much for our hefe to arrive at our table, and as we eye contact made cheers and I chugged my first gulp of the most delicious, crispy and fruity hints of pineapple and apple in a beer I've ever tried. I couldn't believe it was beer. I chugged and chugged like a thirsty child after a long day playing outside, I sighted just to catch my breath and I continued to chugged like no tomorrow because I knew the moment I walked into this establishment I was gonna drink, and drink I did. One after another the beers started coming to the table, my body feeling light and everything seemed funny of some kind, our conversation turning more into continuous laughter, then our plates arrived and my goodness my eyes weren't prepared to the sight of the sausages we were about to consume, and the pretzel was exquisite, everything had flavor at every bite, hints of cheese, meat, garlic, and beer fused into my mouth. Truly a unique experience, glad we tried it.

Great atmosphere. It is legit like a German tavern. Met up with some friends here to watch a soccer game. Seating was interesting lol around a round table and in an incline. The service was good. The food was yes and no. The pretzel with the pretzel mustard and sauce was delicious, but the sauerkraut was tasteless: it didn’t have that bite. Plates are sometimes big enough to share. Parking was easy: street parking. Interesting place.

Went to Red Lion with a couple of friends. Forgot my mask but a patron had an extra which I greatly appreciated. The decor was dark and reflected an environment that you don't see much of anymore. Light and airy doesn't exist here...unless you take advantage of the outside seating which had a lot of character. Our server was a nice woman originally from Finland. I had a sausage on roll and it was tasty. My friends had German themed plates (sorry, but I can't spell the dish names). One had a pork component and the other beef. I ate all of mine..the person who had pork ate all of his but the friend with beef barely ate his and told me later that the beef was barely edible and extremely tough. His assessment was that the beef was of a low quality. He's a great home cook so trust him and his judgment. Would we/I go back? Maybe, but probably not.

Feels Like The First Time Every Time. Each time we've come here it's been on a delightful and spontaneous whim. I'm always amazed each time I walk in. There's so much to look at, especially inside. Of course there are the usuals and locals, but they are part of the charm, and welcome people as they walk in. This last time we went was around lunch time. We had a beer and the sausage platter with mustard. We ate outside on the open patio. Everyone was helpful and efficient. We had such a nice time being in the present moment that I was only able to take one picture on the way out. Cheers!

My girlfriend and walked into the red lion tavern and we're greeted with smiles and good vibes, plenty of outdoor seating with lots of shade. The day we visited there was also a cool breeze. Very attentive and friendly servers, we put our order in shortly after selecting our cool suds from their extensive menu. Also put in an order for bratwurst dogs and a pretzel. Beers were brought out and dinner was served quickly after ordering. Server checked in often. Brat and pretzel were fire

Really awesome place for my first time attending Red Lion Tavern went in for a "quick" Lunch with my girlfriend. we started off with the Pretzel Platter and a pitcher of Warsteiner Dunkel and while we were deciding on what to order from the many delicious selections on the menu our appetizer arrived along with the beer wasn't a long wait at all we ended up ordering The Käsekrainer Plate for myself & Red Lion Gehacktes Steak for my girlfriend the meal was amazing with the waitress checking up on us every now and then she really made sure we were happy with our food and visit when we finished eating we had a shot of Apple schnapps for dessert at this point we were really full and ready to pay the bill but our waitress convinced us for an other pitcher of beer we ordered Bitburger Pilsner and went to hang out in the patio our "quick" Lunch turned into a 3 hours stay. All together we paid $140 for the complete meal and 2 pitchers plus a Tip to the waitress as it was very deserved as she got out of her way to make sure we were content with our visit

I'm giving a full five stars because it's genuinely what it claims to be: a tavern. This is not a national chain of tavern replicas. It's the real thing. Wirtshaus Roter Löwe would be a more accurate name. The menu and beer selection is exclusively German. The food was okay. It would not be my first choice for a fine German meal. But it's a tavern, so I'm okay with the three entries we were served. They had 10 German beers on tap in a broad range of styles, including the excellent Hofbräu Delicator, which I had never previously had the opportunity to try. There's upper and lower seating. The lower area is the better choice for a tavern atmosphere. The furnishings are solid, comfortable and well worn. The single bartender/waitress in the lower area was overworked, but still friendly. The restroom needed cleaning and the carpets are worn, but it's a tavern. If you're looking for the real thing and not a sanitized replica, this is a solid choice.

Eisbein is enormous and really good. Sausages appetizer is great. Good is great overall and good selection of beer. Not so good - parking is tiny, look for street parking, usually you can find something in a walkable distance. Great place for German beer(on draft) and some food. Also they show sports. I really like it here.

I've been here several times over the last four years since my mother moved in with me and I take her out to dinner almost everyday. We came here at least two to three times a month. Certain food is great including the potato pancakes and the pea soup. Some things are overdone (too big) like the sausage platter and cheese plate. Of course there is a great selection of beer. Last time we went was about three months ago. We had a waitress that we hadn't seen before. This may have been because we were there later than usual. She appears to have been working there a long time. As usual we took a while to decide on what to order because I have to translate the menu for my mother. The waitress appeared bothered. Before the food was brought out we asked for a glass water with no ice. It took a while and when it arrived it had ice. We asked for another and extra napkins. I apologized for the multiple requests. At this point the waitress says: "I am only one person with two hands." When the food was brought out the my mother was not happy because the bread was not toasted. We asked if this was possible. The waitress was horribly patronizing and explained that this type of bread was not supposed to be toasted and that they didn't have a toaster anyways. I politely asked if they could throw it in the oven for a minute. She shrugged her shoulders and shook her head and said: "I'll see, but I can't make any promises." The bread came out nicely toasted and warm. I made sure to not ask for anything else. Unfortunately, I will not return.

This place The Red Lion Tavern is an amazing German bar garden, they got an amazing unique atmosphere, really good German food menu and German beer selections. The decoration of the place makes you feel you are in Germany. They got 3 different bars in this place 2 indoor in the 1st floor and the other one in the second floor and one outdoor at the beer garden. It is hard to describe how this place feels like which means you need to come here and experience it by yourself.
