Runyon Canyon Park is one of my favorite places in LA, especially during a clear sunny morning, the views are amazing and the hike/run offers a great exercise. Runyon Canyon Park has several entrances. On the South valley side, there are entrances on Fuller St and Vista St, on the North hilltop side, it's off Mulholland Dr. Between these entrances there are three main trails/roads. The East Trail and the West Trail are dirt trails with great views. They are a bit steep, especially the West Trail; the central Fire Road is paved road and more gradual. All trails are well marked and easy to follow. There is a more technical and steeper trail between West Trail and Wattles Garden Park. Come around sunrise and sunset, the view is spectacular!

One of my go-to hiking places in the area whenever a friend or relative from out of town is visiting LA! Short, relatively easy hike that is essentially a big loop. Plus: - Dog/pet friendly - At the entrance, there are snacks, water, energy drinks, and more available for purchase via the honor system - Pretty views of DTLA, Hollywood, LA... - Hike is short, only takes ~1 hour even if you are a slower walker - Cute gate you can place your own personal lock if you like to! (See pictures) Minus - Very difficult to find parking (street parking only) - Depending on the time of day/week, LOTS of people (but that's the beauty of being in LA, right?) - No shade Overall, a fun place to take anyone, a pet, an acquaintance, a friend. I feel like this is a must-do hike in LA. Check it out to see what you think!

Pretty popular hike in Los Angeles with beautiful views! If you’re coming to the Fuller Avenue entrance, there’s street parking on Franklin Avenue. It’s a bit tough finding a spot on weekends, but if you drive around, you’ll generally find a spot. On the weekdays, spots are easier to find; note on Monday’s there’s street cleaning, look for signs or you’ll get a ticket. Once you enter, right after the dog park, there’s a path to the hike on the left that’s easier to take, if you go all the way to the end it’s a tougher hike where you’ll be going up a more mountainous and rocky terrain. This is a dog friendly hike, most people have their dogs off leash; there are water stations for pets and people; there’s also a defibrillator at the top of the hike.

Classic LA trail that is a pain to find parking. Best to get an Uber or Lyft or attempt street parking nearby. We went in the afternoon and got lucky and snagged a spot when someone else was leaving. There's a paved trail and a dirt trail in some areas. The views are great and is very nice when it's a clear day. Pretty city views and you can see the Hollywood sign and Griffith Observatory from here too.

NOT A DOG PARK lol. You can bring your dog to hike here but it’s not an actual dog park if you’re looking for one ☝️

This park is great for a walk / hike or run. It had paved trails and rugged trails. All trails loop and there are easy to hard mixed in that you can choose to go on. I will for sure return to this place and try them all out. We decided to follow the paved trail all the way down and then take a pretty steep trail back up. It was wide enough to stop and take breaks so others could walk around. The views were so beautiful and it was a great workout, got my blood pumping. Many dogs off leash, all well trained. It’s for sure worth a check out if you’ve never been.

There is a sign on the gate door to the "dog park" that states 'No Dogs Allowed' confused on why it says online this is a dog park..

One of my favorite local places to hike in the Westside of LA. Parking can be tough depending on when you go but there’s usually free parking if you can find it by the apartment streets near it. Runyon is beautiful & open, has awesome views of the whole city and takes about an hour to get to the top - 1.5-2 hour hike depending on how fast or slow you walk/run. There’s different trails that branch off, it’s a great place to get in a quick workout as well. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a solo / safe hike to go on!!

What a great way to start the morning with a 3 mile hike with some stunning views. Runyon is dog friendly so there are always lots of four legged friends walking past and greeting you, we saw a few celebrities still past too. Highly recommend going around 7am before it gets too hot and too busy.

If you haven't heard of Runyon Canyon then you either never hike or just got to LA. I hadn't been in a long time vmbut was just chatting about Runyon with a friend and felt inspired to go back. It is a good, medium length hike from the base to the highest elevation you can reach. I took a few extra paths and went for about 7 miles. If you are not a fan of off leash dogs, then this isn't a great option. Even though signs instruct folks to keep the dogs on a leash, the locals treat it like a giant dog park. Also, it is a popular hike since its easy to get to from all of Hollywood so it gets pretty busy.

As the rude lady with her two golden retrievers said, “there are a lot of dogs, mostly unleashed.” This is true. We brought a friend who didn’t like dogs and it was a bit frightening for her, so fair warning. Overall, it was a great little walk, with some areas that I would consider to be a “hike.” About 3-5 miles. It’s all looped and connected so you can’t get lost. And there are some maps in the front. It’s a city hiking trail, I wouldn’t call this “nature” but it’s a nice workout if that’s what you’re going for. I would definitely wear sunscreen, no tree coverage. On a good day it’s got great views of the city and the Hollywood sign! Very cool. If you’re looking for something a little closer to nature, I would suggest a different hike, but overall it was a good one.

Was looking for a good not so long hike while visiting LA and this was the first thing I found on google. I was not disappointed! There were quite a few people on the trail even though I went around 9am on a Monday morning, but I guess that’s to be expected in LA! As for parking, there are tons of free spots on the streets around the entrance to the park around Fuller. If you can get dropped off, that would of course make it easier but it’s not necessary at all. Did the big loop and it wasn’t too bad! Definitely had some steep parts to get the legs burning but was worth it for the views of the city and even the Hollywood sign with beautiful homes in the hills. Definitely would come back and bring a dog so that I can fit in ;)

This was my first time visiting California and my brother took me here. The hike was great going to the lookout point. You could see the whole city. The hike back.... My legs were on FIRE!! I definitely would go back just to tackle those hills.

Beautiful views. You can see the Hollywood sign, not up close, but you can see it as well as the whole LA city. You have two options to go up, the paved way or the stairs and gravel/sand area. We went up the paved way and it took us about an hour or so to get up. Very scenic though. The area was nice. There were residential people jogging and walking their dogs, very friendly. Worth the walk up. Recommend you wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Bring plenty of water. Don’t go during peak hours of the day, it gets really hot in LA. We went around 6 and by 7:30 we weren’t coming down.

Breath taking views. I'm from NY. I never ventured outside of the Northeast much. Toronto and Barbados is the furthest I've been until heading west a few years ago for the first time. It's another land for real. I stood in the Hollywood Hills while visiting and I was a five/ten minute walk away from the Canyon. Each morning I'd grab a light breakfast, walk the trail, meditate and plan out my day. Those morning walks were the highlight of my trip. Inner peace and happiness....peace of mind.... It's all along the trail. It's a reason why you'll find the most random people there walking or running at the crack of dawn. The views are unmatched and the positive line of thinking it puts you in leads to ideas and the creation of goals that can't be measured with price. Sorry for sounding like a yogi. I'm not one. I'm just an avid runner (NYC Marathon 17') letting you know what the sport does for me outside of the feeling of accomplishment and getting fit. Cardio in combination with this park feeds the soul. It fed mine.

The best views in the city! Great hiking and running trails. Be very careful when parking or else you'll get towed like me. Very loose description on what is allowed and not allowed. Would recommend visiting to anybody that comes to Los Angeles.

A must visit park in LA. Park has awesome views of LA. There are paved and unpaved trails in the park. I don't recommend going through all athe unpaved trail, it might be challenging. Paved trails are good for families and handicap etc. It's a long trail, so you may consider your timing accordingly.

Beautiful hike with excellent views of the city. A couple different hiking options depending on skill level. Walking the access road is the easiest. Taking the trail up to the right side past the dog park has some steep steps to climb, but doable. If you want to hike trail all the way to the peak, beware on the downward return lots of loose sand and gravel, easy to slip— recommend hiking boots for this section.

Cool park with tons of hiking trails and amazing views! Came from the south entrance and got lucky and found parking pretty close to the gate entrance that also had a cool juice/drink/snack bar at it. Eitherway a great trail experience going up and seeing the Hollywood sign from a distance and the entire South LA area. Not a hard trail but bring water for everyone. Dogs that can jump also and can clear steps are ones to bring, otherwise you might have to carry them for a few parts haha

It's a great park. Be ready to sweat! There are a few different routes you can take; we went up the dirt trail west of the fire road, then down the fire road back the start. It was around 2.8 miles, and the hike took us about an hour. If you're prone to sunburn, slather some on! The sun is intense, but it feels awesome. Be sure to plan plenty of time to head back to your home or hotel to freshen up, you'll likely want to clean up before continuing onto your next activity.

Always a good decision (that's my experience) ;+p If driving, there's a parking lot/entrance at the top, but never used it. Street parking at the lower entrances is luck of the draw, some maybe permit only, it's Hollywood. It was cool to see that Yoga has returned at the main lower entrance (on Fuller). Beverages/snacks are there too. It used to be more of an honor system price wise. Still may be the case, but there's a person to assist nowadays lol! I was the only person with a mask (easy to social distance, mine in hand). Stretch, hydrate & enjoy! Sun up to Sundown...

Suitable for those who enjoy hiking, there are very steep hiking trails with a beautiful view of the park and the city surrounding it. And further up the path you can even see the Hollywood sign and take a picture with it. Along the route there are several fountain corners that are suitable for people and dogs. But in general, there is nothing more to do in the park beyond the hiking trails.

Great hike. People take their dogs here also. I liked that I started on the right side of the trail.. where it is unpaved and has dirt-like stairs going up the hill. Since the trail is like a loop, you can start on the left where it's paved.

I find making friends difficult because I need a specific kind of attention; however, I go to places like this for a small amount of time to make myself available. I spent 5 minutes today. It was 1 minute longer than it should take to make a friend, so I left to try another day

Good ole Runyon. Three basic trails to choose from. The paved middle road is Easy, the eastern most path is Medium, and the western most trail (found near the bottom of the paved road) is Hard! Trail is very dog friendly and has a dog park at the bottom.

This enchanting trail is a love letter to LA's breathtaking beauty. With every step, the city unveils itself in the most splendid way. From the iconic Hollywood sign to the bustling heart of Downtown, this mountain offers a romantic tour of Los Angeles that's simply enchanting. As you amble along, a tapestry of vibrant flowers and lush greenery paints a picture-perfect scene. The colors are a symphony for the soul, setting the stage for a romantic escape. As you stroll hand in hand, the love locks fence weaves your story with countless others. Each lock tells a unique tale, and the designs are as captivating as the love they represent. ⚠️ But beware, going downhill can be a charming challenge. Some parts of the path may not be as well-trodden, adding a touch of adventure to your journey. If you seek a shorter, more beginner-friendly route, it's a wise choice. Just remember, a tumble or two might add a playful twist to your romantic adventure! 😄💘

Came here for a nice hike while visiting Los Angeles and wanted nice views of the city. Parking was a challenge as there's very limited street parking near the Mulholland Drive entrance, but it's possible I didn't know the best places to park. The hike and views were amazing. Luckily, there wasn't too much smog and could see the city, the Griffith, the Hollywood sign, etc...The trails were nice and wide and people were generally friendly. There's several different paths you can take with some being paved and other dirt & gravel. Regardless of chose paths, each had nice views of the different landmarks. There were many places if you wanted to rest or just take pictures. Very nice relaxing way to view the city and get a nice hike in.

Finally got to hiking Runyon Canyon for the full ~3 mile loop after years of living in LA and it did not disappoint! First part of the east trail was a fairly steep incline, but after that it’s a great scenic trail overall. The weather this day was certainly helpful in providing picturesque views of the city and coast. Definitely recommend for those who are up for a good 1.5 to 2 hour hike, including stops for some photos.

We took an Uber to the front of the park. It was Saturday morning so there was quite a lot of people. Total took about 3.5km to the lookout and back. Our way up we took the long steep path so we can see Hollywood sign and the Beverly Hills houses. We went on a cloudy day so it was quite windy. They also had water taps at the top. Great hike and would come again.

Great hike to do with friends and a puppy! Lots of young adults on a Saturday morning, not too many children, but MANY dogs. If you’re not a dog person, this might be a bit overwhelming—I’d just schedule to come during off peak. There were Porter potties at the entrance. We used spot hero to find ourselves a parking lot for $10 about .4miles away. There is closer street parking if it’s not too busy and your game for parallel parking. Close enough to the Walk of Fame if you want to stack your day with fun. This park has a handful of hikes to choose from, we chose a shorter 2 mile loop. You can see the Hollywood sign from a distance and nice homes in the Hollywood hills.

Apparently this park hates my car. Would have given it more stars but while my car was parked and I was still in it, a girl in a uhaul turned around and backed directly into my car before I even got a chance to get out and enjoy the park. The park has zero parking available so you are just supposed to leave your car on a tight side street where cars turn around constantly even though there isn't space enough for them to turn around. Came out of the park and there was a motorcycle leaning on the hood of my car. . .

We hiked Runyon Canyon at 6:30am on a weekend, with the dogs and it is a real hike, a steep incline to the top – so it isn’t for the faint of heart. We did this in a fast pace with dogs that practically ran to the top, so after 2 miles up, we took off our winter gear and did the descent in t-shirts sweating, but this is a great spot to get in some exercise early in the morning and get the best views of LA. With all the rain LA has been experiencing, the place is lush, and the views were clear, so we got some great pictures. The hike down is fast and fun, and you feel accomplished for the day. Don’t miss this place when you are in LA.

I love hiking this trail. I've never seen any animals or insects like giant spiders, snakes, coyotes or mountain lions 😂 so I feel it's a safe hike in nature. I also love there's an easy and a hard hiking trail...you can pick which trail you want to hike based on how you feel that day. Lastly, can't forget about the amazing views of Los Angeles ! Super sick Hollywood Hills mansions are all along the hike which also are nice to view/ wish upon 😀 😄

I love being able to walk to a place like this, and actually hike. I'm an Eagle Scout, and didn't expect to be able to get this level of activity from a hike in the middle of Los Angeles. The path is just that in places, a path. And in some places it's a road. It's steep too, I was surprised. Being that it's in the middle of LA, there are usually a fair amount of people around, but that makes the steep, almost dangerous parts seem easy. You can choose between a long 3 1/2 mile hike, or a shorter route that's about half that. But the best part: the views! In a clear day you can see from Catalina to the Santa Monica mountains. It makes downtown look so small! It's breath taking. I've made hiking this part a regular Saturday outing.

Provides fantastic views of the city... at least on a clear day, which is not always a given in smog-choked L.A. Hollywood Sign visible to the east. A bit of a hike down and back up to the road but most able-bodied people can handle it. As good as or better views than you get from the Griffith Observatory.

Great park for dogs. I love taking my pup for a hike and then having lunch at the nearby shaded tables. Cons: street parking can be difficult to find. And I’ve seen many people get their cars towed for illegal parking. I usually pay $10 and park at 7107 Hollywood Blvd - it’s a 10 minute walk from the park. Pro tip: if you do the western trail, start from the bottom. The trail is steep and treacherous; could be dangerous starting from the top.

  • 3/5 Tim H. 1 year ago on Google
Great park for dogs this is just a PSA. Stop walking your barefoot dogs in Los Angeles heat on black pavement. If you can't walk barefoot on that black pavement don't make your dogs walk on it. Especially dog breeds that are bread for cold climates that have heavy fur to keep them warm in artic climates. How would you feel if it was a 100 degrees out and you had to walk up a mountain with a fur coat on while barefoot walking on black pavement. STOP abusing dogs!!!

Runyon Canyon Park is an urban oasis that provides a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles. As someone who values outdoor adventures, this park has become my go-to destination for rejuvenation and reconnecting with nature. The panoramic views of the city and the surrounding hills never fail to take my breath away. Whether I'm hiking the trails, jogging along the scenic pathways, or simply enjoying a peaceful picnic, Runyon Canyon Park offers a serene retreat right in the heart of the city. The well-maintained trails and well-marked paths make it easy to navigate and explore, while the lush vegetation and diverse wildlife add a touch of tranquility to the experience. It's the perfect place to recharge my batteries and find solace amidst the urban chaos. Runyon Canyon Park has become a sanctuary where I can find peace, serenity, and a much-needed connection with the natural world.

They come here about four times a week, and never get sick of it. Great views, with moderate to challenging hikes depending on your ability. I love how it's dog friendly and there are water fountains available for you and your pets.
