i haven't visited this park since i was a teenager and it has gone downhill in the worst way. i came around 11am on a weekday for a brisk walk and was shocked the moment i stepped out of my car. it reeks of urine and human feces as if there was a force field of smell surrounding the city block. i didn't have anything of value on me but i felt as though i had to keep looking behind me because the homeless people in all parts of the park kept eyeballing me throughout my whole visit. the whole park is full of empty bottles of alcohol, homeless people and when you glance around their tent set up you'd see someone doing something illegal or they give you a dirty look. i now understand why i hadn't visited this park in such a long time. i hope they can fix the problem but i don't see it happening anytime soon.

Always a cool spot to come hang out at, but I can't believe how much it's actually changed and cleaned up...for the better of course. The geese are doing their thing, people taking walks around the water, and all in all, it's definitely a historical and special part of LA that everyone needs to experience...both Angelenos and tourists alike. No place I'd rather live. 2 Live & Die in LA....

It’s a 5 star for me … I was on a mission with the LA Dream Center and we walked through the park to love on and pray for those who needed love. Like they say. Leave the judging to Jesus

Wow free lunch for kids from 11am to 1130am. Park doing good. Looks a bit dirty, maybe it has to do with the homeless. Park looks amazing if they just can keep up with cleaning up. Maybe a wash every 2 weeks. The Park looks have gates for no reason. It looks like it need a face lift. Some part of the parks looks like they are out dated and no need of them. LEAN.

Yes there are people living in tents in the park. Yes it’s in a really dense part of the city. Yes there’s more litter around than I would like in any park. But still it’s one of the many hearts of LA, and with the hustle and bustle that surrounds us, a walk around the lake and the unavoidable people watching is a quirky, nice escape. I was there for the ciclavia 10th anniversary and it was great.

In all my years in Los Angeles I've spent the most time in and around here. I've lived here and worked here. I love it. UPDATE: THEY ARE STARTING TO OPEN UP THE PARK AGAIN AFTER THEY HAD IT FENCED OFF FOR A COUPLE MONTHS IT'S CLEANER AND A LOT FUNNER!! Still one of my favorite locations in all of Los Angeles, I am here everyday without fail

MacArthur Park is a historic park in Westlake with a rich history. The city is currently renovating it, so please pardon the dust. This grassy park is the size of several city blocks and has numerous old trees with lots of shade. The lake is full of ducks and geese, and many families can be seen hosting birthday parties on the west side of the park. There is also an amphitheater, public restrooms, a children's play area, workout equipment, and multiple taco trucks parked near by. The Red Line's Westlake station is right across the street near the street vendors. Inside the station, visitors can see tile murals by Sonia Romero which depict classic scenes from the area. One of the murals is dedicated to the chess players who famously frequented the park back before the chess tables were removed by the city. The local residents have been putting forth a lion's effort to revitalize this park. Do them justice by visiting and supporting this park and taking part in creating the vibrancy and life that it dearly deserves.

I must say they're making tremendous strides in changing the atmosphere at this park. Still have a ways to go but they are on right track. Fewer homeless sleeping, urinating & doing drugs in the park. Well done, keep up the great work LA Parks & Recreation department!

Nice expanse with a large pond. Mostly a bird sanctuary for ducks, seagulls, Canadian Geese, pidgeons and other water fowl. (And fish.) Smells funny in certain spots? And a good part of the walkways are literally covered in bird’s poop. Located in kind of a very depressed area. Seemingly a ghetto maybe? But the locals keep the place livelier with their open air markets next to the subway station hawking their goods on weekends. Must’ve been nicer at some point in time ages ago. But not much happening now. Just a respite for the lowly ones.

Years ago I would have not rated the park anything above maybe is star. And truthfully that one star rating would have came from my observations that would be to if you were looking for a place to cop drugs nor look at the homeless problem straight in the face this is a place that I would bring my children young or older because of the nefarious activities that occur and or the filthiness and vile smells and trash that is piled up everywhere.

This place is vibrant and beautiful. There's the soccer field and playground for the kids. Also the pond for fishing. It's great for the whole family. My advice is don't go there after dark it can be a bit dangerous what with the homeless and everything

MacArthur Park has some great potential, the lovely little lake, the big green space, the relatively central location with easy public transit access...but the reality is far from that potential. Whenever I pass by the park, I can always spot homeless here and there. The public space looks rather underutilized, in strong contrast with Alvardaro St dirty and crowded with vendors occupying the whole sidewalk. It was hectic and a bit unpleasant.

Man! my memories of this park are so much better than what it looks like now. They are renovating it, so hopefully they can bring it back, but the whole area has changed.

Playground is really great. Kids love it. Very tightly packed but still fun to play with kids. 4 star because the lake and walking trail around the lake is not properly maintained. Restrooms are also horrible; thinking of the restroom makes me give 3 or 2 stars, but playground is really great :)

The playground is nice and very unique. The games they have are different than ur traditional just swings and junglegym. The bathrooms are not clean at all. If you can use it elsewhere, i would do so. I take my dog there at night times and let her off her leash and she has a blast running around.

Use caution when at this park. If you are not a local, some of the more obvious dangers include drug use and mental illness throughout the park.

Half of the park is "under renovation", which seems to be it's status for over 1 year now, at the time of this posting. In the daylight it's a very pretty and unique public park and at night they've lit it up so it's not as doom filled as it's reputation once had it, it seems to be more community-oriented and the soccer field is active as ever. Great space for killing time and soon it will be a great space to actually plan an outing at.

The park is usually littered with trash graffiti and homeless vagrants. It really does take away from the beauty of the water fowl that come to appreciate the pond. Or the city vibe that it has surrounding it. Awful park if your looking for recreation serenity or most things you'd go to a park for. Interesting only cause it's part of Los Angeles history and one of the more sizable parks here in the city. But not missing much if you don't visit it. There are some street vendors close by if looking for a Lil shopping. However not great deals. Other than jogging through to stop and maybe look at the birds for a quick second. But hey it's there.

It's okay. I hate the fact it's dirty though. The equipment is very fun! Early in the morning it's very clean! But later at night it's a mess. (What's with the random wrappers etc on the floor???) Lot of homeless people here but it's not a problem. In terms of fun it's okay! I like that some concerts are held here! Very entertaining! That's all.

It could really be a nice park if the drug usage wasn't so obvious! Especially at the park entrance at 6th and Alvarado... That whole corner of the park is like the living dead and the cops just roll by to give out a J-walking ticket. The park is NOT safe for Children! It's quite sad actually.

I grew up around the area as I am an LA native (K-Town to be exact.), I use to love coming to this park. It was fun when they had those peddle boats you could rent out and be out on the lake. When the playground had sand instead of that rubber/foam padding it has now. I remember the park being cleaned and taken care of, the removal of the homeless people. Now other than a few upgrades it seems like the park has been forgotten. The lake is filthy, homeless people left and right...the drug use...oh the drug use is something else. I wish they would bring the park to its former glory days. I just hope it doesn't end up getting drained or closed. Please take care of this park.

It's a beautiful Park , located in a Los Angeles, lots of people think it's a drug infested area, and that may be so. I would call it cultural, you find many vendors on the streets offering an array of different items, for a good price, not to mention the food vendors, Soo good to eat there food. I would also like to say even though it is drug infested, the people don't bother you. They are just doing there thing, and probably homeless this area never sleeps... It's the only place they can stay, and not be harassed The park again. Is beautiful,. And it's big with a lake or pond .

Mc Arthur Park would be an amazing park if the city actually made any effort to keep it clean. It's dirty, smelly, homelessness, and the worse part is seeing all the drug addicts junkies.

This is a really nice park, unfortunately is very polluted and full of camping tents,(you may also find many unpleasant scenes like people consuming drugs for example). I hope the beauty of this park will be restore in a near future.

Good local walking park, not enough shade, lots of people smoking pipes and sleeping off intoxication. No aggression, everyone just lets everyone do their own thing. Very pretty lake with fountain and birds. Playgrounds, amphitheatre, sports field. Located near high density retail, so anything you want is near.

I have had so many great experiences here. The sidewalk vendors have so many tasty dishes and fun trinkets for sale & the peoples are tons of help if you're looking for a specific place or merchant. I usually get brand new bandanas each time I go out there to expand my collection. If you don't like crowds or get claustrophobic easily this might not be the best place for you to walk due to the heavy foot traffic in close proximities.

Not a bad park. Soccer field, picnic areas, small lake (which isn't too clean and kinda smells). But not a bad place to relax for a bit. Lots of stores around.

They’ve cleaned and beautified this park and after few months it went back to look like a drug infested park! You’ll see homeless hanging around drugged up and loitering. Trash is everywhere and its even close to were the kids play. The government wasted our tax money for this park where they couldnt even enforce something. Even the attendant for this park show no care anymore. What a waste of money fixing the park.

McArthur Park was the second park I visited outside of it's neighbor park Echo Lake Park my first few days in Los Angeles. The transition and the landscape while very urban is a family friendly environment with all the amenities you'd come to expect from a city park.

Somewhat ok the homeless population is bad people drinking alcohol hope they get help soon other than that it's somewhat pleasant.

Been around MacArthur park since, 2013. It needs public bathrooms. Penition city counsel. To promote the tourist a better bathroom is necessary action.

Great camping spot, we started a 2.5 week road trip with a stop here. The views were Amazing, level concrete sites and easy to navigate. I wish we had more time to explore, but definitely will be back.

I am writing this as a warning to whomever has the interest in visiting this area. Please do not come here, this place is so extremely infested with infectious and contagious diseases. The drug addicted and or mentally ill homeless residents go to the bathroom wherever they please so everywhere you step and anything you touch has a heavy and sickening odor unlike anything you have smelled before. If you suffer from a low immune system please factor in expectations of procuring a common infection of the skin that you see every resident adorning that results in abscess like sores of the epidermis that will likely result in a visit to the hospital to have infection drained and cleaned. A Questionable amount of people missing a limb or 2 without any explanation. I also advise you to not sit, stand, or mingle too long in one area for longer than 2-3 minutes due to the likelihood of someone taking the opportunity to rob you of your valuables. Taking children here is completely out of the question and in my opinion, not even an option. The only reason I put 2 stars is for their vendors that sell some pretty nice merchandise for reasonable prices as well as the food vendors but I warn of the cleanliness issue. They clean to the best of their abilities but they can't control who goes to the bathroom and where, unfortunately. Lastly, if you aren't a huge fan of rats then I suggest wearing rubber rain boots because they will be jumping and running past you without any fear. So if these types of things don't botheryou then come on down!
