Hidden gem in Los Angeles. The walkways near the art gallery transport you in time. You will appreciate the park for its natural beauty while appreciating the surrounding neighborhood of Los Angeles. The views are spectacular, and the art gallery is now open for free! Best place if you want quietness, inward reflection, and appreciation of L.A. life.

Great place to watch sunset, picnic or stroll. Nice to just walk around the peaceful park. I like how it’s not always loud or busy. Come during weekday sunset. During weekend sunset, it will be difficult to find parking.

Cute park hidden away from the bustling traffic below. Love the fir trees between the gallery and house as well as the views of the Hollywood sign and Observatory. I definitely would return for a picnic or just to relax. Plenty of parking.

This small park has big attractions! The views, history, quiet, and easy parking are just a few of several reasons that make this place a gem. From this hilltop you get amazing views of the north and west Los Angeles’ basin; offering amazing sunset shows. The storied history of the Hollyhock house keep the area well maintained and filled with fantastical details. Lush landscaping and open grounds provide a great place to sit quietly in sun or shade while sharing time with others or self. And for those who drive, if you cannot find parking on top of the hill there is an overflow lot near the bottom with an invigorating step (or road) climb to the top.

I love having picnics here. The perfect picnic spot is the grassy hill with the view facing West. Excellent view of LA and the grass is kept short, since the park is always clean. My favorite time to visit is in the summer and fall months and take photos of the sunset over town. It's a popular place to go on a date. Lots of areas around the park to explore. Lots of parking at the top and bottom of the hill too.

We parked in the small lot at the entrance and there’s a stairway at the end to get to the park. If it’s full you’ll have to turn around and there’s a lot of parking going up and around the park. Lovely place to have a fairly quiet picnic. Lots of people there but plenty of space with a great view of Griffith, the Hollywood sign, and surrounding areas. There were a few porta potties as well. Very nice easy walk and dog friendly.

I love Barnsdall Art Park because it has a little bit of everything: it's a little oasis in the middle of LA, has amazing 360 degree views, an art museum, beautiful trees, a Frank Lloyd Wright House...but there are some cons. First, the art museum is hardly ever open (so why do they still call it an art park?). Second, there's a lot of drinking that goes on here, so it can be a bit...rowdy. Other than that, it's a great place to visit - and added benefit, a really crucial scene in the first season of Big Little Lies was filmed here...#iykyk

Surprisingly CALMING! The Barnsdall Art Park has a peaceful view of the Hollywood sign and Griffith Observatory combined with a sweet stretch of grass to lay on and enjoy solitude or a quiet picnic. This is definitely designed for decompression and chilling, not parties! It's a refreshing little park with an art gallery, art class area, and the Hollyhock House (a historical site from old Hollywood days). The bathrooms are clean the park is great for putting in your stair steps. Parking is limited, but not that bad. I really liked that there was a section of the park this is entirely shaded by large trees, it's great for nature lovers who want to be outdoors but not in the sun's crossfire. My gripe with the park is that some of the buildings are too industrial within and/or aged. No, I'm not talking about the historical sites or the art gallery! I'm talking about the buildings as you walk up the road (which are part of the park’s property) to the park. The good news is I'm thinking they're remodeling!

This park is quiet and comfortable all around. Now the cherry on top would be the Hollywood sign. There's a spot in the park where you could have a seat on the grass and simply contemplate the freaking Hollywood sign!!!! Highly recommend.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Sundays at Barnsdall are my kinda church. Views for days. Sunset 360. Hollywood sign, and the Griffith Observatory lookin like a modern day castle perched above our city. It's like vacationing in Europe for the day. Get there early and pay to check out the beautiful Hollyhock House by Frank Lloyd Wright. BYOB and cheese, clean up after yourselves, and be careful not to imbibe too much because I swear there is never a bathroom open or available up there!

II go up here frequently. During the week the park is quiet and the views are spectacular. Anna Barnsdall certainly knew where to place a house. This is where the hollyhock house is and this time of year there are a great deal of hollyhocks. The grounds are kept very nicely. There is of course the municipal art museum which is only open 3 days a week. And there is the adult and children art workshops where you can take classes. Besides the view to walk around the hollyhock house is really enjoyable. You can take self-guided tours as well as docent tours. I just like to walk around the exterior sometimes because it's so gorgeous. Parking is free. The pix attached are all cell phone images.

This is a little oasis, just off Sunset Blvd. (behind Kaiser). I remember years ago they had an art show of special, old patchwork quilts. Some were made for dolls. It was really cute. That was a special time that I shared with my mother❣️

If you want a good view of the Hollywood sign and Griffith observatory this is a good place to go. It is usually not that congested, and it is also a good place to spend a few minutes.

Hollyhock House remains closed, but can be photographed from behind a moderate height chain link fence. The park is open for use.

Well worth the visit, just to see the outside of the Holly Hock House. The house, museum and visitor center are currently closed (July 2021); however, the park grounds are open. You may view the house from outside the decorative fence. The park itself is a quiet respite. You may walk and enjoy the shade of tall pines and Olive trees. Many people were enjoying picnicking on the grassy area next to the house. There were portable toilets and plenty of parking since the house was closed. Looking forward to returning once tours resume.

This place is NOT a dog park; it's a park you can take your dog to play off leash and that's as good as it gets. Surrounded by busy streets, tour buses and people everywhere, dogs must have excellent recall and voice control which makes this a great place for a family outing with Fido.

This is, without a doubt, my favorite park in the city. Sunsets are amazing and parking is free. So many things to like: great location, astonishing views of Hollywood sign and Observatory, and you even have a Frank Loyd house in there! There is also a venue in the back of the park where they throw concerts & art gatherings. Farmers Market during the weekends!

Great place to bring a picnic blanket or some chairs and hangout on the grass! Great views of the city. Pretty peaceful too! You'll see dogs, people reading, sunbathing, doing yoga, or having a picnic here. Parking was pretty easy to find! Park either at the bottom and walk up, or go closer up on the hill and park near the beginning or take a loop around the hill.

This is a very nice, free place to visit. There is a great grassy area to watch the sunset. There is also a bunch of free parking. I haven't done the official tour yet. Frank Lloyd Wright designed the place. It's located just east of Hollywood, in Los Feliz/Thai Town.

This place has changed over the years for the BETTER! it's clean, great parking, ample picnic space, and security walk the grounds which is great. All around a nice high (elevation-wise) for a picnic or just meditate at the end of the day.

I didn't visit any of the buildings here. I just used the park for a picnic. Parking was tricky on a Saturday afternoon and the only toilet was a portable. Great views though. You can see the Griffith Park Observatory and the Hollywood sign from the park. Plenty of security present.

Came for an event. It's a small park with decent views. Parking is a little tight towards the top. If not you can park in the lot and walk up. Need to come in on my own to get a better picture of what this park has to offer.

  • 5/5 Michelle N. 4 months ago on Google
Nice small historical park to come relax and watch the sunrise and sunset. Beautiful views. Excellent armed security officers patrol park to ensure your safety. This is a historical park next to the historical Hollyhock House, so there are several rules you must follow. Here are a few no smoking 🚭, all dogs must be on leash, no alcohol allowed, no umbrellas, loud music.

Had the most lovely time here with friends, just enjoying the breeze, the stately pines, and the gorgeous view. Embarrassingly, did not realize until later that the "cool building" we liked so much was a Frank Lloyd Wright. 😂

I don't care if you're an adult - you're coming here if you're in SF. This small park is in the middle of a residential area. Looking at pictures of the slides, I thought there was going to be barely any momentum going down, but my goodness, this was the fastest slide I've ever been on.

  • 3/5 Roberto P. 3 years ago on Google
Crazy fun for all ages! Even my 75-year mother enjoyed the slides. :) There was already cardboard at the slides so we didn't need to bring any. We went on a Friday and there were just a few smaller kids there who didn't stay long. There are two slides side by side so you can race. This was a fun time!/

I love that this exists in the city. It's like a completely different world when you're inside this park. The tall trees block out all the outside noise and provide a relaxing aroma while you're exploring the grounds. Perfect place to come and unwind, exercise, or take your dog on a long journey through the wooded trails. Be sure to check out the rose garden, it's free, and my personal favorite.

A very beautiful, hidden spot right in the middle of everything. Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture is always breathtaking but the area surrounding his work highlights the beauty even more. And great city views!

One of the most beautiful places in Los Angeles. Home of Cal Academy of Sciences, Japanese Garden, Conservatory of Flowers, de Young, and more! Every major race runs through here (well, Bay to Breakers and Nike Women's Marathon).

Very nice and cozy park in the middle of Los Angeles right next to Kaiser Hospital on Vermont & Sunset. Good view to the city. A lots of leaning place for young and old. Car parking is available for free as well. Come on down and check this part out. You will not be disappointed.

This park is so big, you need a few days just to explore the whole thing. Every time we go to Los Angeles, we explore a new area and we're always amazed by it.

A huge park that's only good for locals hanging out like exercise, picnic, laying on the grass, painting and such in my opinion. For tourists it's just too big to walk between places on weekdays, they do offer shuttle rides on weekends and major holidays though.

I visited the park on an overcast day so obviously it wasn't the best view from the little hilltop, but I was still able to see Griffith Observatory and Hollywood Hills. I didn't get to visit the museum and gallery because it was too early. The architecture looks cool though.
