One of a kind spot! Love the atmosphere, the food, the service. My partner and I came during happy hour on a Saturday and it was surprisingly less busy than I expected on a beautiful LA afternoon. We got the happy hour special pretzel with mustard and split a beer. We ordered the fried pickles and Jägerschnitzel to split, with the intent of ordering one more entree after - but wow, those schnitzel plates are big! Zero complaints of course, the food was delicious! Service was also great. All safety precautions are being taken care of and you can tell the people here care about providing great food in a safe manner. Currently there are no paper/physical menus - you scan a QR code upon arrival to pull up a menu. Order inside and pick up a tray with drinks, plates, and cutlery on the side. Then find a place to sit outside - lots of seating space. I personally enjoyed sitting in front by the entrance, with the trees, lights, and decor - loved the vibes. Very much looking forward to returning and trying out more of the menu!

Hinterhof for the win! So look. I have been a lax vegetarian my whole life pretty much. During the start of the pandemic I decided to go completely vegan and along with that came the discovery of a plethora of amazing vegan restaurants I did not even know existed. Since I discovered Hinterhof while dining was closed I began ordering take out. Let me tell you. My every first meal, the fritter, with mash potatoes and red cabbage, literally was like Thanksgiving. I fell out on my bed with such satisfaction, but did not feel heavy at all. There is such a difference in how your body feels when you eat food without dairy and meat, and with a fresh purity to it. Finally dining opened and my best friend from high school and I decided to come together and sit in. It was his first time and my first time experiencing the brunch. Looook, when I tell you, the portions are so huge I already knew I was taking a doggy back home. Swedish Oatmeal pancakes and Benedict for me. I mean thee perfect flavors. Everything I've ever had at Hinterhof has just made me roll my eyes and do a little dance. Not only that, but my best friend and I were so happy we could sit, eat and talk and we did for like 6 hours. By the time we left it was night. Every single person on the staff was wonderful. Just wonderful.

Wow. A vegan German restaurant. It's a bold strategy, Cotton. But this place surprised me! With a delightful outdoor area and festive lighting, we sat down for a drink and maybe a pretzel. After looking at the menu, we decided to try a lot more and ended up having a full dinner. Let me tell you, for a vegan joint, this place is delicious! The typical meats (brats, schnitzel, etc.) are obviously not the real deal, but they do a really great job making them tasty! With a fairly large selection of beers and a surprisingly large vegan menu, I have to give it to this place -- it felt like Germany. Great work Hinterhof! I hope to come here again when I'm in the area.

Pros: food (especially the weinerschnitzel) is good, bordering on great in some instances, and it was all served hot. Also, the space is great and has a very cool vibe. I'm not giving stars for this, but I also love that it's all vegan! Cons: (if these are addressed this could be a five star rating b/c the good food). SLOW. So slow. We've been here two and a half hours (now 10pm on a Saturday) and just got our check. Probably a new team still finding their way, but it feels understaffed. Little details go overlooked - e g. no water/refills and no toilet paper in the bathroom.

The food was ok, the bathrooms were incredibly clean. Loved the outside patio and for those people that prefer indoors the A/C was very cool. Loved the dog friendly staff and the Kölsch was the best for a hot summer day. Got a nice surprise when the puppets showed but my favorite part was that I was able to express my toxic masculinity in comfort. I will be definitely be going back.

Really good food, huge portions, friendly service. A beautiful, modern aesthetic. They even have a big stainless steel water container on the patio for your dog.

Come hungry because this place is amazing and the portions are solid. Great happy hour specials - including for food. Server gave great recommendations. I love it here - especially sitting outside.

Spectacularly tasty. The food is fun and joyful. It feels like a magic trick to see sausages and fried meat made of plants, especially in such a meat and dairy heavy cuisine. Their cheese plate is worth sharing, and by all means try the pancakes! Delicious!!

Loved this place. Best German Vegan cuisine in the Eagle Rock/Highland Park area. I'm not vegan nor vegetarian by no means. But I loved the atmosphere and the kind welcomes from the owner and staff. You will be impressed by the great tasting food you will see my bill and the food I ordered. Everything a man should eat, it was hearty, flavors blended well and had no regrets eating at this fine establishment. I took the strudel to go. But it had a scoop of ice cream that was delicious and paired well with the apple strudel. Enjoy the food and the company when you get there. I plan to revisit the location again.

Super fun little neighborhood place. Perfect fix when you are jonsing for a potato pancake! The whole place is vegan, every single thing is very hardcore strictly vegan. Came here for brunch and the menu was a bit limited. Sadly we didn’t get our spatzel. But we did get our potato pancake fix. Tons of fun beers to choose from. Nice people. No parking on site!! Street only and it does get tricky. Awesome outdoor patio/courtyard area.

Hinterhof deserves four stars for service, five stars for flavor and five stars for atmosphere. The pretzel and accompanying beer cheese is incredible, as is the apple strudel. I was unimpressed but not disappointed by the beer brat and jägerschnitzel, and the restaurant even made me, a lifelong sauerkraut skeptic, put my stamp of approval on the fermented cabbage dish. The portion sizes are quite large, and so is the bill, with each entree costing around $20+ apiece, so consider splitting something if you go with someone. I didn't try the beer because I wanted my first time to focus on the food, but everyone there seemed to be into their beverage of choice. Finally, their location in Highland Park is nice with plenty of street parking options, and it's clear they take COVID-19 social distancing seriously, so it feels very safe. I'll be back 100%.

Forget that it’s vegan, I had one of the best brunches here. I’m not a vegan, but a friend is a pescatarian leaning vegan, and I’m happy with anything so long as it’s delicious. None of us had ever been here before, but the schnitzel with waffles were calling my name. I like schnitzel very crispy, amd theirs was perfect, almost crunchy. The waffle paired with the pear and syrup was delicious, and the salad balanced it all out. I like entres that have both sweet and savory things. I had a few bites of the pretzel bread French toast which was so good and crunchy on the outside. Next time I’m here I’ll have a hard time deciding between the two entres. Yum. Floor to ceiling windows keep the interior sunny and bright, facing out onto a large patio with umbrellas. Service was gracious and attentive until the food arrived and then less attentive as we had to stop our server to order drinks and ask for more coffee. There were only eight other people seated at that point. We didn’t mind and didn’t feel neglected - we assumed a shift change was in progess. No big deal. As a non-vegan the only thing I miss at a vegan restaurant is milk or cream for my coffee. The next best things are oat milk or macadamia milk, but they had neither.

I have been looking for a good vegan schnitzel for a while, and they hiti it out of the park. Everything is juicy and full of flavor. Very happy we found this place and will be back many more times in the future. The German synth and pop soundtrack inside is just an added bonus. Recommend for brunch the Schnitzel and Waffles.

First off, the vibe here is very vibrant and cozy. I've been here a few times, before the pandemic, but its only now I was able to post a review. They had live music...which was really nice. We ordered two different brats, pork and beef. Even the Bretzle is awesome to snack on over one of their beers! Awesome selection of draft beers! And to top it off their fries are to die for and so many dipping sauces to choose from! I can definitely see myself coming back for the cool ambiance. Check this place out if you like beer and Brats!!!

Delicious food as always. Can't go wrong with a burger on kings hawaiian sweet rolls and some crispy fresh fries. I love getting the tater tots or sweet potato fries if I want a change from normal fries. The outside seating area is really nice and relaxing. Good good every time!

Food was amazing. Beer garden is great to have a viewing party and everyone is friendly! And if you speak German, they will be grateful! Compassion over cruelty!

One of the best places in the area to get burgers, fries and beer for cheap. Awesome atmosphere to just come and hang out. Come here after 3pm during the week for happy hour! You won't be disappointed.

The corn dog - any hot dog or sausage deep fried looks amazing. Beer selection is decent and service is very good. Took away one star for the a/c not being on, but it could have been broken.

This vegan German restaurant may sound like a strange combination but everything was absolutely delicious. We went for brunch and the tofu egg replacement was as close to egg texture as anything I've ever tasted. The dressing on the salads and the not-butter were the most complimented things in the group. The only thing people were less excited about was the pretzel croissant. The waitresses and chef were so friendly and understanding with our non-vegan group as we got to grips with the lack of real milk for our coffee. And the milk replacement options were absolutely delicious.

Stumbled across this place by chance, and so glad we did! Delicious food that just happens to be vegan, and some of the yummiest beer I've ever had. Will definitely be going back!

Pretty... Meh. Sausages were dry and overcooked. Saueraut was... Pretty basic. Mustard was good. Maybe the beers are good too? :)

Excellent beer and food selection. The food was high quality and well prepared. Would have been easier to order at the counter if there was a menu on the wall rather than trying to get it on your phone.

Great food! The currywurst is amazing. During covid, there are fewer tables out so it's probably better to make a reservation.

Excellent food, I had the Sooo California with Polish sausage instead, it was delicious. Ordering is little slow and long line. Friendly services. Good beer. Definitely will come back.

One of my absolute favorite vegan restaurants in LA. Their brunch and dinner menus are both stellar. Prices are kind of high, but most menu items are huge and great for sharing family style.
