We had high expectations for this place based on reviews and we love supporting small restaurant but unfortunately our experience was disappointing and less than desirable. We went for brunch. We had a questions regarding the brunch menu unfortunately, the girl taking the order doesn't actually pay attention or answer questions being posed by the customer despite repeating the question 3 different ways. I still wasn't sure what my orde included...hence what I received was disappointing since I thought I was getting the plate order. My husband ordered the fried chicken based on her recommendation, unfortunately that was also wrong since we got the grilled or BBQ chicken instead and not the Fried chicken. Chicken was very dry and absolutely not worth it. We believed that all the food was prepared way in advanced and just reheated so nothing was cooked to order or freshly made. The eggs were dry and yolk completely hardened from sitting for hours before they were served. See picture. The day we were there, they were playing some kind of strange Korean music and it was so hot inside the restaurant, it was uncomfortable. The exactly a great dinning atmosphere or dinning experience.

Yo, this spot is so dope! I came here b/c I saw Alisa’s show on Hulu. If you love soul food with some vegan and gluten free options, then you gotta come check them out! 💯

This Black Woman owned establishment came highly recommend by a close acquaintance and it did not disappoint. My husband and I ordered the BBQ chicken salad, blackened jerk shrimp tacos, shrimp & grits, strawberry & sweet potato cakes, and peach cobbler. The simple yet tasty BBQ chicken salad came with a delicious house made dressing (not pictured) that added depth to the salad. The savory shrimp & grits were my favorite! Yum! I realize corn tortillas, (not my favorite), seem to be the standard in this area. They were used for the blackened shrimp tacos. The tacos did not hold as much flavor as expected, but they were still good enough to enjoy. The desserts were all made from scratch and satisfied my sweet tooth. The strawberry cake was my favorite! Yum! On top of all the great flavors is a spectacular chef with a genuine heart for the community who came out to greet us as we were visiting from VA. Thanks Chef Alisa!Stop by My 2 Cents if you're ever in CA to experience unique southern style cuisine!

I have a New Year day tradition that includes shrimp and grits, gumbo, greens and black eyed peas. I really didn’t feel like cooking this year as I am dining solo due to the fact everyone I normally get together with has Covid, so I called My 2 Cents. The restaurant was actually closed when I called but they took my order anyway and they even waited 25 minutes until I was able to get there. Not only did I love every bite, I was very pleasantly surprised when I opened the bag at home to find a carton of sweet cornbread that they threw in as a gift. While they weren’t able to make the shrimp and grits because the kitchen had already been shut down, based on the gumbo alone, I will be going back during regular hours to try their shrimp and grits. I highly recommend anytime you want something delicious to eat and don’t feel like cooking, this is one place you should try.

The strawberry cake is everything! I highly recommend the soul rolls, oxtail tacos, fried green tomatoes and the service with a smile. I’ll definitely be back.

This is the kind of place I feel comfortable eating alone because it really feels like home at My 2 Cents. The food is delicious, the portions are sizable, and the menu has many vegan/veg friendly items.

Southern goodness that is not overly greasy! It's pretty healthy tasting in a good way and fits the LA scene. There's street parking only so it can be a bit of a pain. The Grilled Catfish was done well and I got it with Cheesy Grits. The Sweet Potatoes and Collard Greens are really tasty too! Must have then together. They also have a big selection of desserts too so get some to go! The Upside Down Pineapple Cake is simple and delish!

Great food, great atmosphere, and overall a good experience. I got the plantain tacos. My friend got the catfish tacos. Overall, 10 out of 10 on the food and service. I love that how when people walk through the door, the staff behind the counter yelled out welcome. The strawberry cake.. Hella good. Definitely you want to buy this.

No wait! Polite guys behind the counter. Food came out in a timely fashion. Oxtail tacos & jerk shrimp tacos were both delicious!!! The Tom Ford is so tasty! I’m a big water drinker so appreciate being served a carafe! I’m visiting from Michigan so I always search out chocolate owners restaurants and I was more than ecstatic about my experience! Especially being owned my a sista!

I found My Two Cents while searching for a brunch spot in LA and I am so glad I visited, especially since I supported a black owned restaurant! I was eyeing the catfish but they were all sold out. Unfortunately for me (since I am a pescatarian) there weren't many options on the brunch menu but I decided on ordering the waffle with sweet potato hash. My bf ordered the chicken w/ grits with a side of eggs. The eggs were perfectly seasoned and both of our plates were plated beautifully. ORDER the sweet potato hash, it was GREAT! The honey biscuits that came with our order were good too. There are a couple of seats inside and outside. Service is quick and staff is friendly. Would definitely come back here when visiting LA again!

Counter service/full service restaurant I ordered the fried chicken with 2 sides, $21. The fried chicken was not so crispy and it was almost wet in some ways of grease or water or something. The flavors of the veggies and the sweet potato was great. I don't know how much sugar was added in the sweet potato though... Good service, clean bathroom, small parking lot and lots of street parking. Lots of cakes on display that looked yummy.

My Husband and I came to visit from Columbia, South Carolina and this by far is the best soul food with a twist and exceptional customer service we’ve had in our lives. Ms. Reynolds made us feel so at home as if we were sitting at our dining room table for family dinner. Being vegan virgins Ms. Reynolds already has us changing how we want to eat. What comes out of her vegan soul kitchen is phenomenal. AND don’t get me started on her cakes My Gawd!!! This is a MUST EAT when your in LA or just visiting!!! Thanks Alisa for the convo and making us feel at home.

Loooooove My 2 Cents! Every single employee is warm and welcoming, the food is fire (the oxtail tacos are *chefs kiss*), and the vibe is cool and comfortable. If I’ve had a bad week, I know a brunch at My 2 Cents is the remedy :) All credit to Chef Alisa for creating this immaculate spot. Indoor and outdoor seating, no alcohol (but BYO champagne and they’ll hook you up w/ OJ for mimosas), small parking lot with decent street parking available.

Small interior, mixed with some great innovative dishes. The ‘Soul spring rolls’ are the most innovative soul food dish I’ve had, surprised I haven’t seen it before. We ordered the check in with collard greens that comes with a barbecue sauce for dipping - wow. Macaroni - The macaroni and cheese is a brown rice penne pasta, which on its own I would think is very good, but to pay $13 for that size I think is a little ridiculous. I think our particular dish didn’t have many whole pieces of penne, they were all broken up- kind of like the end of a bowl where it’s all scraps and then put into macaroni… Which, if that was the point, then OK, but it seemed like a miss– still very good, but the size and the broken pieces of pasta left me hoping for more. Catfish - We ordered the fried catfish, with a side of sweet potato yams, both great. The way they bread the fish, grainy thin and crispy. Yum. Strawberry Cake - We got the strawberry cake to go, it was way too sweet for me but the others liked it.

Definitely need more 🌟 's for this review. I love great service, great food and a great atmosphere but it's rare to find them all in one place these days. However, My 2 cents did not disappoint. I had the shrimp & grits meal. The shrimp was amazing and the grits were delicious but together they were extraordinary! The sauce was a broth based sauce that was amazing and every bite was juicy and full of flavor. The veggie appetizers were delicious and amazing as well. I'd recommend this place for a quiet night out or for a group dinner. Definitely gets 5 STARS from me. Enjoy!

Chef Alisa Reynolds has a winner here! My shrimp and grits were fantastic! The cornbread was sweet and salty and I believe, had a spritz of honey. It's really delicious! The staff were very sweet and my food arrived super fast and hot! Casual, laid back in an authentically Black History environment where everyone is welcome.

My first visit here was excellent. I believe it was back in 2018, the twins were extremely welcoming. We ordered the shrimp and grits, oxtail tacos, mac and cheese and other stuff. It was amazing , you guys had us as customers for life just off that first visit. I had recommended the spot to everyone I knew. Unfortunately the past couple times I’ve been here the service went down tremendously. The last time we had went the food was just as expected but we were basically invisible. It wasn’t busy at all. Everyone who had came after us got their food first. The waitress kept coming out to the guys next to us making eye contact and leaving. We didn’t get our appetizer or dessert. It’s okay to have a bad day once but when it’s a pattern I’m not okay with it. Sorry , I’m not coming back again.

3 words SHRIMP AND GRITS! They are delicately delicious yet full of flavor. The shrimp were cooked to perfection, the grits were creamy, soft and yummmy, can’t forget the broth it’s flavorful and rather delicate. Not greasy, not salty just clean and delicious. Comfort food at it’s finest. If your a spicy person you might want to kick it up with some hot sauce but that’s based on preference. I can’t wait to dig into my peach cobbler and pound cake. The staff was lovely and eager to please. I’ll definitely be back to try your oxtail tacos if I can’t stop myself from ordering the shrimp and grits again. The Sunday brunch menu looks amazing too, I was told that your fried chicken and waffle are the best! Thanks for making delicious food. Love is Life ♥️

Fire! Fire! Fire! What a hidden Gem this restaurant is. I have seen Then for a while and decided to try them out and boy was I impressed. I had the chicken club sandwich that was bursting with flavor a salad and some black eye peas that were just incredible. The Black Eyed Peas may be the best I've ever had. I'm not gonna tell my mom though. It has a great atmosphere with fantastic smooth enjoyable music. I love this place and can't wait to come back soon To try some more of the dishes they have on their menu.

Chicken soul rolls and black rice were amazing. Customer service, excellent. Myles and Lavonce served us and were very professional. A bit under seasoned with some of the dishes for my taste. Atmosphere was community orientated.

It's overpriced for the portion size. Great service, moved fast, very polite, and down to Earth. Checked in with customers and all that. Thanks for the Cornbread sample as well! But y'all would make more money charging $12.99 for the shrimp & grits. At $24 (plus a tip), it's not quite worth every penny and gives the impression that it's going to be a platter. Also, the place is a little small, but y'all made it work. I love supporting small businesses but give me something I can stand behind by adjusting the prices. That's my two cents.

Everything here is made with love. My first visit was so amazing I had to bring my parents all the way from long Beach for lunch. Oxtail Tacos for the win! Save room for sweets. Thank me later.
