I really like Horse & Angel, but the service seems to get worse with each visit. Others are quick to blame the servers, but I am wondering why it always seems to be so short-staffed and why there is such high turnover of servers… Management needs to schedule more servers per shift and prioritize retention. As a former server myself, I can say that fair wages and a respectful work culture are a recipe for success! Keep your staff happy and it gives them the incentive and support to do a good job!

Literally done giving this place any more chances. The first time I went there with my girlfriend we sat at the table for maybe 20 minutes before anyone approached or said anything to us, though multiple staff members walked by us every minute or two, often making eye contact with us. Finally our server approached us and we had good service after that. The food was also pretty good. We chalked it up to them being busy and not handling stress well, so I was willing to give them another chance. So tonight I walked in with my kids for dinner at about 5:55. The place was not busy and on our way to find a table (the sign inside the door said to seat yourself), we walked by a table that had two adults and two small kids, younger than mine, looking at menus. They clearly hadn't ordered yet. We sat at a table in the corner and again sat there for 20 minutes, while again multiple staff members walked by us and made eye contact every minute or two the entire time. One even sat down several times two tables away from us to take bites of her food in between running food to other tables. During this time the other table with children ordered and received their drinks. Finally after 20 minutes, a server (the one serving the other table with kids!) approached us and said I'm sorry but kids aren't allowed in here after 6:00. I said "oh that's interesting because that table has kids sitting there". She said "oh that's because they were here before 6:00". I said "ok cool, well we were also here before 6:00, it's just that we were ignored for 20 minutes before you decided to pay us a visit." She said "I'm sorry, I just started working here, but that's our rule. I can go ask someone if you want." I said "no that's fine, the service here is awful anyway. I no longer expect that to change." Not sure why the serving staff here is so rude, but I'm not interested in giving them another chance.

Ordered a wedge salad, came out looking disgusting. Asked my server about it and she agreed it looked bad and would talk to her manager. All he said was “people eat with their eyes”… terrible way to handle the situation.

The service here is horrible. Probably the worst thing about this place. The waitresses give little to minimum effort. They have maybe 3 local beers. Their food is decent. There are so many better places in town. I would not recommend coming here unless you had no other options.

Every time i go the service sucks.. but I hate even going at night/evening while watching football. There is this night bartender that is just the rudest. Gives me attitude every time I come in and make me not feel welcomed at all... it's sad I've given this place so many chances. But not again. Not going to come back. Get better service..

This is a very nice Tavern. I had the pulled pork sandwich with fries and it was good!! They serve Coke products and they have a full bar. The staff are very nice and take the time to get to know there regular customer and make new ones like us feel at home. Check them out and let me know what you think.

after 3 years of going to this bar and having NO ISSUES having my service animal with me in the patio area, all of a sudden became an issue today. We spent 20 minutes after a worker said that it was okay to have him with us waiting for someone to bring us a menu or just ask what we want to drink, no one did. Than when someone finally did talk to us it was a waiter that told us the dog would have to be over the fence for us to stay which is ridiculous. I ended up going to spectators and honestly BEST SERVICE EVER! They welcomed both my service dog and myself and served us immediately plus the food is better and so are the drinks. Anyways long story short if you want A++ service please DO NOT go to horse and angels go to SPECTATORS

Love this spot! They put up with my atrocious behavior and unsightly appearance! I’ve never had to wait for anything. The food is very good. The prices are great. Great selection of spirits. Staff has always been timely in my experience. Nice location with a big parking lot. Good for cab or Uber service. Try it, you’ll like it!!

Food was okay, but they were out of a lot of things. Drink variety is good! Service was okay, I would have bought another drink, but they didn't notice because they were chatting behind the bar. By the time they noticed us, we decided to cash out. They also charged an item onto our receipt that they were out of, but luckily we noticed before paying. Things were okay, but nothing to write home about.

I’ve been to Horse and Angel a couple of times recently. I’m looking for a cozy, comfy place close to home. I recently had Sara as my server and she was nothing but nasty. I had questions about my drink; got nothing but attitude. Looking for somewhere to be “my place”. I guess I’ll keep looking :/

Terrible service every single time we go. We’re locals that live in the area. Rude servers. Rude manager. Not accommodating. Just say “sorry bout that” when you wait for an hour for a drink. Don’t compensate you for anything. Plus being a local, I see the increased frequency of turnover in the staff. So even the workers seem like they don’t want to be there. Good food, only reason we go back at all. But this is the last time. 0/5 if it let me.

Third Friday Lenten fish fry search. This place did not disappoint on many levels. Sat at the bar on my own. The Guinness was poured well, served a tad early but was a good temperature. Ordered the fish and chips, they offer 1 or 2 pieces so I ordered two. Happy mistake. The filet was huge (see picture - yes ate them both) so go hungry if you order two. Not sure what type of fish it was but it was nicely battered maybe a tad too crispy but still very good. Now the best part - the patrons. I think many were local, I ended up having a conversation with 4 different people. All very nice and people just joined in the conversation which made it very fun. I would go back just to sit at the bar and talk. Bar staff was not overly interactive but still attentive. I’m not sure how many tv screens there were but this would be an awesome place to watch a game. Nice local vibe, good food, nice bar area definitely worth a try.

Late night stop after a few beers on a week night. Clean and a nice atmosphere. Would rate 5 but thay gave me a less than a quarter Guinness for a car bomb and I am not too sure there was any whiskey in the shot.

We really like this place. The food is good and the staff is very friendly. Has a great neighborhood tavern feel to it. Fun place to just hang out and have drinks and a meal.

It's very nice inside and we loved the oldies music. Reminded me of the Bennigan's resturaunt on Louisiana from ages ago. Food was ok, nothing extraordinary. The service was good but when we received the bill and saw we were charged for refills of ice tea and diet soda we were surprised and disappointed. Do they only want customers that are drinking alcohol? At the very least the waitress could have told us that soft drink refills were not free. It was an extra 5 bucks, but it's annoying.

The service is quick, efficient and exactly what you want at a bar. The food is AMAZING, every menu item I have tried is fresh warm and plated neatly. The fish and chips is by far the best I have found in Albuqueruqe. We have a young one at home and we only get a date night every couple weeks. Horse and Angel easily became our bar of choice outweighing other popular chain places in our area. Please give this place a try!

Let me start with the positive first - the food was excellent! We got the traditional English Fish and Chips for lunch and I have to say it is the best Fish and Chips I've had in Albuquerque. Sadly, the service was not good. There were only a few customers in the place, one at the bar and two tables, yet we waited almost 15 minutes before being seated. I actually had to go in search of someone to seat us and found two employees leaning behind the bar. one said, "We'll be with you soon". Finally another waitress came by and said "you can sit anywhere" and hurried off. (They had the please wait to be seated sign up at the entrance.) After finding a table we waited, and waited, and waited, and were actually getting up to leave when a waitress brought us menus. At no time did we feel like we were welcome.

I've been there a few times and each time is more of the same. Getting a table or sitting at the bar is easy enough but to get some one to take an order is an ordeal. The food is ok but just barely. This last time my girlfriend and I went, we got a table next to the bar. Only one bartender for a semi packed house is one issue, then the waitress came by after a 15 min wait and dropped of a menu and took our drink orders. She was back in literally one min with water and another 15 to 20 min for the drinks. Did I mention only one bartender? We were there for well over an hour and managed to get two drinks and some grub, a quesadilla and soup, before we cashed out. I will say this though, this time I wasn't treated like a migrant worker. They were a lot friendlier.

I've been here before. It was packed on the last visit, so it wasn't crazy busy on the Thursday night visit this time. The beer was cold , and the bar tenders were friendly. My colleague ordered the fish, and chips said they were good. The staff were very busy cleaning and tending to tasks. I will visit again.

Service was very slow. Drinks were good but took min. 20 plus mins for a drink at times longer. Our waitress was nice but we finally left because you couldn't get a drink.

Its okay! The fish and chips were good but salty. The Philly cheese steak was good. The flavor was good!

Had the fish, it was ok but not good. Menus were dirty and torn.waitress was not attentive, it wasn't busy. She would disappear, probably having a cigarette.Didn't have a draft beer list. They are short help behind bar. I would not recommend

Pretty standard sports-oriented bar in a neighborhood location. It's not amazing, but it's definitely competent. Decent tap list for a place of this type, not just Bud and stuff, but nice local beers also.

Slow service. Understaffed? Catfish and rice was great. Veggies served cold but she brought be hot veggies snd they were great. I was here eight minutes and not acknowledged. Had to get attention st the bar. It was "seat yourself"

Iconic almost "hole in the wall" vibe pub that has some great options for food and then some not-so-good depending on the order. I recommend the Green Chili alfredo with a protein of your choice or a good burger and fries. Service can be a little tough in terms of waits but overall is consistent.

Our group from Church goes frequently after services on Sunday for Brunch and enjoys delicious fare from their breakfast menu. Its the best of all worlds, sports for the guys, good food, great service, and lots of room if we have a big group.

Slow service, not used to that. We usually get our food fast there. Didn't seem that busy on a Monday night, so I don't know why it took so long.

I understand that there are staff shortages in the restaurant industry and other industries as well. But with that being said, the servers at Horses and Angels have not been very friendly at all like the last four times I've been there. The overall time period is probably like one year... The food is actually pretty good but they need to get it together in regard to customer service which also includes coming back to the tables in a timely manner! I would not recommend this place. 😐

Only because I haven't gone there enough to really get the full experience. However, the next time I go there, I'll give it 5 Stars, so I have enough experience to know Horse and Angel Tavern. The waitresses there, are super kind. Few years ago, I went there with my mom and sister, with a bad mood that day. I had a bad attitude to one of them, but there was so kind to me anyway. And so, it goes to show how professional they'll be no matter what. This is why I'm speaking out today, that when someone has tough skin in the game, especially in this day of how our economy is going, it takes a lot of grit to make this happen. Services like this shouldn't be forgotten. I commend the staff there!

Awesome beer selection, friendly staff, and delicious burgers. Atmosphere is really cool and unique. Kind of like if a dive bar decided to clean up and get its life together.

If you just want to drink, it may be great. I needed a good salad and got an average one. I can't believe they would give a bowl full of iceberg lettuce....no romaine, or greens. The fajita meat was good, but the other trimmings that set off a salad were sparse. Great atmosphere and seems to be popular with the Tanoan set. Not a do again for me. Service was slow at ever step.

This used to be a good restaurant, with good food and good service. The food is still good, but the service has gotten progressively worse when we've been there recently. Today was the last straw. My family and I took up 2 tables, and the tables ordered in close succession. After about 20 minutes, the other table got their food, but the table I was at did not; we asked if ours was coming out soon, and the waitress said it should be out soon. Another 20 minutes passed, and the other table was pretty much finished with their food; we still had not received our food. We asked the waitress why we had not received our food, and she seemed surprised that we hadn't gotten it yet. She went to the kitchen and asked if they had made our order; when she returned, she told us that the kitchen somehow lost the order ticket, so the food had never been made. She went and printed the order ticket again and handed it directly to the kitchen staff, telling them to make it now. She came back and apologized profusely, saying that the manager had agreed to give us a discount because of this. Despite the waitress telling the staff to make the order right away, it still took about 30 minutes for us to receive our food. We were almost at the point of leaving without eating when we finally received our food. That kind of wait is unacceptable! There should be no reason why the kitchen should have lost the ticket, and once the waitress went in to tell them to make our food right away, it should have been a rush order, especially to get the kids' food out. I appreciate that the manager gave us a discount to try to make it right, but I still won't be returning after the unacceptable service we got from the kitchen today.

Took a while to find a seat and get service. They were very busy and appeared short staffed. Fish and Chips were great! The burger was also good. Our server was good too. Overall we will go again. Yummy

Used to love going here, would go a couple weekends out of each month. Always ordering nachos. But lately the service here has been getting so bad, went here last Saturday for a friend's birthday. 20 minutes waiting at a table before I went to the bar and asked the bartender to send someone to our table. There were like 4 waitresses chatting it up at the table next to us. At the end of our time here we became a part of 6. Each and every one of us had to go to the bar to get a drink. Sad this is my last time going as well because this used to be mine and some friends hangout.

  • 3/5 Keith C. 1 year ago on Google
The drinks are not made strong as they have a strict serving limit, which is great! Just know this as your heading over intending to spend over 20$ for 2 drinks. The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff is friendly, only problem we had was a delay in service at the patio. When I was waiting for someone near the restroom, I was approached by 3 workers asking if I needed anything withing 2 minutes. After reading several other reviews I decidedly changed to 3 stars.

Before Covid this was a great place to get a beer and a burger, get some nachos, or hang out and have some drinks. However, our two experiences there in 2022 have not been great. Early in the year we stopped by for some nachos and drinks and ended up with a bad night of gastric distress. The place was busy but the service was good. The mild food poisoning or bad ingredient was not neat at all. In April of 2022 we stopped by for a beer and burger on the patio. We are used to most places having staffing shortages and try to be patient on that issue. The server was overwhelmed and couldn’t keep up. The manager seemed out of sorts. Worst of all, there was no silverware and we had to wait about 10 minutes AFTER our food was served. The food didn’t seem to be sd good as it used to be. It is unlikely we will go back anytime soon, if ever.

My husband went there just today the blackened chicken was so dry the fries were cold the service was terrible (on the patio) my husband's burger was nor good. I asked for the Mgr Dell and I showed him the food and he said well thats the way I like my food. And he said well what do u want me to do about it! I told him wow thats very professional. We will nor go back and thats too bad because we used to enjoy the beer and the patio. Well I guess these are the people that get hired niw
