An incredible experience for anyone traveling to the area. I’ve been to some museums but never something quite as unique and interesting like this one. We paid $16 dollars for two of us which I didn’t expect considering some places charge a lot more, and I could almost spend all day looking around the whole museum! The Museum starts from the beginning of time (the big bang) all the way until our current world. I found interesting and cool was the fact all you see like the fossils, bones, rocks, gems, and etc brought in which was found locally or gifted to the place. It’s great for kids because they have a lot of interaction pieces for the kids to enjoy. The museum has fossils as well as rocks for the kids or even you to touch. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. You can tell they take pride and joy to their job. It took me around almost 4 hours to complete the exhibit but could easily be done in 2-3 hours. I will definitely be back in the near future to experience it again!

Slightly dated, but with improvements coming by 2024. Relatively informative exhibits, and a nice flow for chronological viewing. Neat focus on New Mexico specific dinosaurs. And the highlight for the kids: an animatronic dinosaur that has only been found in NM - gets moving every half hour. Neat!

Perfect museum, as always. I've been visiting with my family since I was small and it never disappoints. Our favorite path is to start at the top and walk down through history - from the origin of life all the way to modern day. The exhibits have a great flow and time flies by when you're there. This time that we visited, there was a temporary exhibition for a chocolate sculpture competition and it was delightful. It's a shame that the laser dinosaur and the fossil cast in the lobby are gone now but they'll always be precious childhood memories. We're definitely going to continue visiting every time we pass through.

While the museum was a little dated, I thought it was a great experience. The chronological order of the museum made the content much easier to grasp. The museum also had some GREAT artifacts and fossils of all types. Lastly, I really enjoyed the planetarium show. If a little more funds were invented in modernizing the museum, this would easily be five stars.

Such a great way to spend a summer day. The animatronic dinosaur at the entrance is amazing! Looks like there's some new exhibits coming I'm very excited for that. My daughter and I particularly went to explore the crystals and rocks that they have. I will include some of our favorite pictures definitely encourage everyone to go at least once. The only reason I am giving it four stars is I was very disappointed that the first Sunday of the month is no longer free for New Mexico residents. Also the children's area was closed for lack of volunteers I do understand that but that was still one of our favorite things to do so we were bummed about that.

I would give 5 stars for the museum on the well researched, informative, beautiful art, scientific facts, and community support. However, as a senior aged couple pushing my husband around in a wheelchair, the map was confusing, and signage was not available for wheelchair access. Some of what appeared to be elevators were not and were time machines. We paid to attend the last 4 pm show, but we were unable to attend. We were so confused and figured out where to go too late, and we're locked out at 4 pm. Show goers need to arrive 10 minutes before each show. The museum is great for younger families and people but needs improvement for senior adults and persons with disabilities.

My kids (12, 9 and 7) loved this museum and the 3D movie we saw. We followed the path through time and enjoyed the special exhibit on chocolate. We spent 3.5 hours there, and would have stayed longer to spend more time in the space exhibit if we weren't so hungry for lunch. Not a good spot for younger kids though, best for kids who can read or who just really love dinosaurs.

A very good place to learn about the natural history of New Mexico. The museum covers minerals, volcanos, space, and dinaaours. They have a good planetarium and a movie theater. Do not miss anything. the ticket is just 10 bucks, including shows. It is a great place for high school students and history and science lovers.

It is a very interesting place where you can learn about the process of the creation of the earth in addition to the life that existed years ago, they also have many fossils that are very interesting, it makes you think a lot about how extraordinary the process that has taken was the creation of our planet

Great museum, lots of cool areas that are very engaging and interesting. Lots of space so even if there are a lot of patrons it doesn't feel too crowded. The live action dinosaur was really cool. The gift shop has some really cool stuff.

Fun interactive science museum. Definitely the highlights are the dinosaur bones and the planetarium. While the museum is small, it has some big time exhibits. Probably 1-2 hours to go around it depending on how much you are reading. The price is also very cheap, so I would highly recommend visiting it. It’s also excellent for children, lots of activities for them.

Great museum, ticket pricing was fair and you could easily spend a couple hours looking at all the exhibits. Very well laid out though when you initially arrive it’s a bit confusing as to where to start first, we ended up going backwards but it worked out. Lots to see from enormous dinosaur bones, live fish, lots of gems, space, and even the history of chocolate.

This place was very nice and the planetarium was good. I love going into the dome where the images are all around you and your surrounded by the experience. A few of the exhibits were interactive, which is good for kids.

I recently visited the Natural Science Museum in Albuquerque and had the pleasure of attending the Mesmerica show. The visuals and musical experience was truly excellent, creating an encapsulating atmosphere in the quaint, well-designed theater with its unique sphere-like shape. The comfortable seats added to the overall enjoyment of the performance. Beyond the Mesmerica show, the museum itself was impressive, maintaining a high level of cleanliness. The staff members were friendly and helpful, enhancing the overall experience. I'm definitely looking forward to returning to explore other exhibits within the museum. A fantastic blend of entertainment and educational value – highly recommended!

Beautiful extensive museum with exhibits on everything from space to trilobites. Loved the interactivity and the amazing sculptures and art. The main star is their animatronic dinosaur in the main foyer, though. She is absolutely beautiful, moves well, and is an entrancing sight for all ages. They have interactive labs that young ones can get hands-on exploration in, and interesting information and specimens for the older kids and family. One of the best museums i’ve been to yet. There’s even a see-through style locked room where you can look into the lab full of fossilized specimens being labeled and prepared “behind the scenes” style.

A very nice museum to visit. The museum itself is clean and inviting. The exhibits are interesting and well put together. They’re a bit content heavy for children, but for older kids I’m sure they’d have fun. My family and I went to one of the interactive planetarium shows. The speaker was very knowledgeable and well spoken.

This was a pretty nice museum, I really liked it. I visited it with my dad on the final day of our trip out west before we headed back to Arkansas. I absolutely loved their paleontological exhibits and I love the "Prehistoric Journey" format so much. However, I just wish that we had more time to check out the other stuff, too... Oh well, that's why there's always next time! :)

Idk, man. The museum feels kinda stagnant. A lot of the interactive parts of exhibits don't work, which is what I'm drawn to since I'm not much of a dinosaur person. Some exhibits feel cobbled together (the mars culture exhibit, for instance). There are a few that I appreciated (climate change and the cave exhibit). I think it's a great experience for a kid older than 7 who's never been before. It might be worth coming early in the morning and paying extra for a theater and planetarium pass because the whole museum can be walked through in an hour unless you are really captivated by the text. The gift shop is reasonably priced for kids, but an obvious trap for adults.

I loved it, as I am a giant nerd and getting older and enjoy these types of things. Some of the interactive features of exhibits don't function properly which is a bit of a bummer but it doesn't take away much from the experience. We are considering getting a yearly pass like we do for the BioPark because it's a good deal and great place to take the kids when they get bored.

Spent a couple hours looking at the exhibits here. Glad I did. They had a amazing collection of minerals and gems, a nice display of fossils and dinosaurs, and a few nice displays of meteorites. It was not limited to this and they had several other displays but these were the ones that I enjoyed most.

We wanted to see dinosaur fossils, so this was the place to be. Unfortunately, there were bus loads of school children there, which I don't mind, but I would have put a mask on had I brought one. I ended up catching Covid 2 days later. So, to sum it up, it's a very nice muesum but wear a mask or at least have one handy.

Took my son here before it closes down for who knows how long due to COVID-19 pandemic. I only rate it 3 stars because certain exhibits were shut down but other than that it was a blessing spending the day with my son.

Another must go to Museum in ABQ! Lots of fun going through Dino and Space exhibitions. Give yourself around 1.5 hours to get through everything, and then add another 45 minutes to see one of the shows. Amazing time and lots of learning along the way!

Always a great place to go. Great for kids or dates or a Tuesday! The planetarium was amazing. Caught the "Forward to the Moon" program which was really interesting. I do suggest bringing headphones for small kids or those with autism- like my son, it did get loud from time to time. The exhibit on chocolate was super neat! I cant wait to go back and watch a show at the dynamax theater! Inexpensive fun for the whole fam!

Very cool exhibits, definitely geared towards elementary kids and older but my toddler still had fun looking around. The volcano and cave exhibits were very cool and immersive. If you are out of town with a membership at an ASTC affiliated museum, you may be able to get in free, don't forget to look! They also have a penny machine, so bring quarters and pennies if you like to collect those.

Best way by far to beat the heat and learn a thing or two about this prehistoric treasure in New Mexico, I had no idea this area was once underwater millions of years ago. Great place to take kids to explore and have hands-on learning at affordable prices starting at 8 dollars for adults and less for kids.

  • 4/5 Vivian H. 1 year ago on Google
I remember when this museum first opened and the excitement it created. When my kids were little and I homeschooled them we were weekly visitors. It’s been a few years since I’ve returned. I was impressed by the overall look of the museum. The new Chocolate display was fun and entertaining. I went with my 23 year old son and we reminisced about all the visits we did when he was a child. A few of those exhibits are a bit tired, but I have to say that it was an enjoyable visit for the price. I recommend about 4 hours if you intend on taking in an IMAX movie and maybe another hour if the planetarium is doing a show. It’s still a great museum to take the kids and I’m glad we spent the afternoon there. It only cost $20 for two people and the IMAX movie. A pretty good deal.

I took an almost 5 year old and she was a little scared by the dinosaurs but she was excited about the dog exhibit. I appreciated the hands-on elements of building a dog, hearing like a dog, seeing like a dog, and learning about the features of different breeds, how to care for a dog and how to train a dog. You could even see how fast you could run in comparison to different breeds. It was lots of fun! In March 2022, some exhibits were down but there was still plenty to do. I also laughed in my head as some exhibits have a mouse ball that my kiddo couldn't figure out. 🤣 For the touch screen generation, you'll have to help them with some of the antiquated technology. 😉 Still a wonderful place to visit for a few hours. 👍🏻

Great museum for the size. Love the fact that it specializes on history focuaing on the area. Starts with the Beast that roars at the top and half hour. Follow the history of life trail starting on the second floor. Gives a great overview of life from single cell up through the dinosaurs. Great full size display of some local dinosaurs. Other favorites are the lava display and the light space exibit. Did not do the movies, so I cannot comment on them.

A really great place to visit. They have lots of exhibits, unfortunately many of them are closed because of the pandemic. I really liked the fossil room and the volcanoes exhibit. The only minor irritation was the snarky, unpleasant young lady at the front who acted like we were bothering her. Otherwise, a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.

It's nice to visit especially when its your 1st time. But we visit the museum every couple of years and it's pretty much the same thing. Still nice and something to do but really needs some updating. Especially that plastic they have over the fake lava section. Totally recommend for a,1st time visit. The brain exhibit going on now was interesting

I went on a family trip to Albuquerque and visited this place to view the history and also learn about it. It's a 2 story building. There were beautiful exhibits mostly about dinosaurs but still so amazing. Some of the Natives history/culture as well which was delightful to see. We viewed one of those 3-D movies about nature (I forgot what it was called) in the theatre and it was incredible. The photography of snowy mountains and dry desert canyons and nature shots of different animals. It was truly breathtaking. Overall it was very neat! I've been to a couple museums and this one is top 3 for sure !

  • 5/5 Jay D. 4 years ago on Google
Loved every bit of it. Would say it is the perfect size museum, with more than enough really cool stuff to see but at the same time not overwhelming. I would love to go back again, staff was very friendly. Make sure you test out the mars rover, the camera really works!

  • 4/5 Bobby F. 4 years ago on Google
Really nice place with a ton to look at, it was way bigger than I expected and the pricing is very reasonable for the whole family. My only complaint is that we often found ourselves going through the exhibits backwards because the place is kind of a maze, and for younger kids most of the exhibits don't do much to hold their interest because they require a lot of reading. We really enjoyed it, and even just walking through without reading much spent a good 2-3 hours there. I liked seeing a focus in many exhibits tying them into the local area.

We go every few months on the New Mexico Resident Free Sunday. If you are a New Mexico Resident go to the museum's website to find info regarding this. This month the theme is brain. We appreciate that our natural history museum is so interactive. No matter the age of the *kid.* Our children are 16+ and still enjoy going to the museum. We as parents remember yesterday year when the youngest was extremely scared to enter into the Lava flowing 'cave's no matter what we or her siblings tried. Looking through the Bee's eyes .... on an under 3 ft tall pole. Planetarium and space and stars. The youngest's favorite even still today, the Geodes, and rocks... We knew the dinosaurs /T-Rex was gone, but it was hard to see the empty space where he had been. My kids have all camped under the T-Rex at a Scout event or other summertime activities. We appreciate the many fossils through out the museum but our big T-Rex will be missed!

Had a great time with the family this past Sunday at the museum - AMAZING Dino exhibit - really makes you think! Were there for over 3 hours and could have stayed longer but we got hungry... we’ll def be back!! The place was super clean, employees seemed happy to be at work (something u don’t always see nowadays) and the diff exhibits were entertaining and educational for our kids and my hubs & I. Do wish there was a snack bar or something so we didn’t have to leave - we missed the Black Hole show that we’d paid tix for but hey ... just another reason to go back!! 🤗

Really great inexpensive trip for anyone who has a dinosaur loving kid! I was disappointed in how much stuff was closed due to COVID. Makes zero sense to close the theater and planetarium. It's not like they were very busy. And closing all the interactive exhibits but kids are putting their hands all over everything else there is senseless.

Great place to walk around and genuinely learn about natural history. They have giant dinosaurs which really bring it life for the kids and the dynotheatre always has interesting movies and you will feel more educated after watching them. They constantly add new movies and change out the old ones. The planetarium is more for older kids and adults but is still great.
