Not sure I would call this place an attraction but for those who like old stuff from the industrial era of America this may be interesting. This is essentially a working shop where people are busy restoring this old steam locomotive. Some were painting and some removing bolts. They added some information shacks and there are some free train magazines you can have. The locomotive was running a few years ago but some parts broke due to operational ignorance. There is no owner's manual for it. Work is volunteer and money is all donations. A while back some theives broke in and stole a bunch of steel that were actually parts to mount the cab. Set the project back 2 years to custom make new parts and the financing to due it. It was interesting to see the work in progress.

What a fun detour and tourist attraction. They are pet friendly so we brought our dog, and it was fun to see and hear everything about this old train and everything they are doing to restore it.

Watching this locomotive move out of the engine house to be cleaned and prepped for her debut on May 6 gave me goosebumps. Due to .y time constraints, I was only able to get a brief tour but Al Hill did a great job. A former railroad conductor, Al has been with the Society longer than 2926. You can see the care and feel the pride that the volunteers have in their work. The engine looks brand new and is worth your time to see and experience. The book is awesome too. I live almost 2,000 miles away in Pennsylvania but became a lifetime member. Highball 2926, clear track ahead.

Fantastic place! The volunteers that are there are friendly and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend for people to stop by and get a tour (free). They have items for sale and they do accept donations as well. Fun stop and will for sure be back when in town again. **Only open on Saturday and Wednesdays. **

Super interesting and different place to visit. The train is being restored by a bunch of really passionate volunteers. We got a really detailed account of how trains shaped Albuquerque into what it is, and that was great. Plus, you get to sit inside of it.

This tour of the 2629 locomotive was very interesting. The tour guide that we had was very knowledgeable about the train. They do have a little store selling books about locomotives and other trinkets. They said that they were going to run it on the rail tracks sometime soon. I would love to take a ride on this steam engine locomotive sometime. I would also take this little tour of this locomotive again.

This place was freaking awesome, my nephew is a train nut. So it was really fun to get an in person glimpse at the internal working of an old steam train.

Fascinating part of history right here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The volunteers were kind enough to let me bring my motorcycle right inside the compound for pictures. They gave us a great tour of the locomotive. It is worth the visit and quite an amazing machine to see in person.

As a young kid I remember this train at Coronado Park. I also remember hearing that there was a group of people who were going to move it from the park to the rail yard to begin a restoration project. I though it would be impossible to get this old train fired up again. Well this past Sunday (7-25-21) I was proved wrong. These amazing people were even kind enough to let my two small kids and wife in the engineers cab and go for a short ride. It was amazing.

What a hidden treasure. Open on Wednesday and Saturday with free tours for the public. The men and women that work there are volunteers and the restoration projects are funded by donations. Worth a visit to appreciate history and make sure to donate to keep the projects and history alive.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Incredibly friendly crew, amazing story of persistence. 80 year old beast that sat idle in a park for 40 years, was rescued, then another 20 years of restoration. Congratulations to all involved, hope to see it on the main line someday!

Very fun and interesting tour regarding train travel, history, and the restoration of the engine. Everyone was friendly and knowledgeable and you can tell they genuinely love the 2926. Definitely recommend stopping by! (Free entrance, donations accepted)

This is so amazing! You should see the before and after to really understand what these volunteers have done. A volunteer guy with the last name Curby had a shirt on in line at Costco with info about the project and told me about it so I had to go. He was really nice and super smart and the tour guy was great too. They need volunteers to do lots of stuff that’s not just working on the train itself. 🎉🚂
