El Cerro de Los Lunas is an overlooked and under appreciated place. So many people see the hill daily but never ascend it. There are cliffs, canyons, trees, and incredible rock formations.

You see this as you drive by it on the 25. It appears deceivingly small. It definitely is underappreciated. It is worth the detour. We spent 3 hours navigating around it and up to the top. The view is phenomenal. It really is a unique experience and recommend you add this to your bucket list to experience with friends and family. It isn't too challenging so if you're not really good at hiking or climbing this is a decent location to take something feasible on. I will be coming back!!!

When I moved here 5 years ago, I expected a hike up "the hill" would be one of the first things we'd do. Better later than never, I guess. Firstly, I suggest going to the Los Lunas village website and print off the grid map to take with you in case you need any assistance. We took the overlook trail from the east side, heading south first and winding clockwise. The first half (?) requires slogging through sand and is the toughest part, by far. Once you get up on the windblown south side, it's easier. If you're worried about rattlers, the trail is pretty clear, you won't be stepping over big rocks or logs or anything that'd conceal 'em, just use usual snake territory precautions and look ahead. We're in decent shape for 60ish, took us about 2.5 hours out and back.

North, south, east and west! If you hike or bike the overlook is challenging and interesting. But be observe of open space hours. You should estimate this as a challenging hike. And consider that its an area a to work up a good level of heart rate and if go long enough about 10 miles is possible during exploring. For some just to go up and back down to the parking lot for a couple of miles hike is awesome. Have fun close to Los Lunas and Belen. Some walk their mules and walk them up and then ride. Some bike and some fly kites! It is beautiful! Have fun!

Well marked and maintained trails. Scenic views from multiple locations and the top. Numerous loops to extend or shorten your hike. Trails are sandy at bottom, but firm up and get a rocky base as you ascend.

Great family friendly trail. No shade at all, can be very hot go early. Park closed at sundown and the Open Space officers will come hunt you down if your past sundown. Will say a bit more trail upkeep could be done, wouldn't mind volunteering if there was a campaign for some trail upkeep. Facebook right next door should invest in the area around in including this park. Pro tip: hats, sunscreen and plenty of water.

Lightly trafficked and full 360 degree views at the peak. I wouldn’t suggest this in the summer unless it’s real early in the morning as there is no shade. You can come up with a few different loop variations to mix things up or to get more distance.

Nice jaunt with beautiful views, on well-maintained trails. The online map seemed pretty out of date but it was easy enough to follow trails around once we were there.

still i process of construction the main trails are great well maintained and large there are side trails for a more rugged experience plenty of parking and are monitored by local police to discourage vandalism didnt see any evidence of vandalism and police presence was discrete overall if your looking for a good hike this is perfect

🫤 The park needs maintenance. The dog agility area is full of goatheads, and some of the equipment is broken. The grass area is pretty good, but does have some holes that should be filled in.

🫤 I hate to give public places a bad rating, but this little museum needs an infusion of money. The main exhibit was middle school drawings. We enjoyed the maps, and the donated organ, but mostly it wasn't worth the time.
