I always love visiting this trail head. So many options to take. I live in Colorado now and these foothills in Albuquerque are truly a gem. Many great spots to view the city, run, bike, hike, walk.

Nice trail úp a little mountain. It has trails through the local fauna also if, like me, you can't quite make it up the mountain. 🤣

A nice staple hike for a lot of locals. It's great for beginners and more advanced folks alike. Sort of a choose your own adventure with lots of different trails. You could meander around the interwoven trails towards the front with little elevation change, or head towards the back of the park where there's a variety of elevation change and boulders. Making it to the top of the mound is definitely a rewarding challenge that can be accomplished relatively quickly. All around super solid spot, and great for mountain bikers too!

You start off with a nice walk up to the hill. After a few switchbacks and an elevation gain of about 800 feet you find yourself with a magnificent view of the city. On the way up, take it easy as the climb can be steep for us older folks and those working on getting into shape. The rock formation that looks like a broken thrown is worth checking out! The walk up and back is approximately 1.8 miles from the parking lot.

One of my favorite after work scrambles. You can really chose your level of trail; flat, a bit of elevation, a lot of elevation. It’s easy to get off the more used bike trails and can have nice solitude walks to rockhound or look at the plants and scenery.

Cant say enough Awesome things about the Trails In the Foothills. This one is a great mix of flat straight paths along with some elevation climbs. Moderate terrain. This is my preferred spot. If you're Training for the Bataan Memorial Death March, this is a great spot to start out. You can easily do 7 miles in this spot.

Easy walk with a payout of large rocks that are a great place to rest. This is one of my favorite very easy hikes around Albuquerque. Most of the ground is fairly level and to get to the type of rocks shown, it's less than a mile. I like this hike in the summer most and then you can get the shade and respite from the sun at the rocks to relax.

A great use of public funds! I use the trail almost exclusively for trail running; dog walking and mountain biking seem to be the most popular activities. This trailhead is the closest option for boulderers carrying crash pads in. The paths are part of the larger Open Space Trail network and back up to the Cibola NF for anyone looking to spend a little more time on their feet and checking out the flora, fauna, and geology. Trail traffic is higher on weekends, holidays, and afternoons but not bad at all for an urban trail.

This is a beautiful location. Very scenic. Parking is plentiful. They have the dog bags, which is nice. While I was there, I saw people maintaining up the area too, which is great. My only critiques are that there is not a water bottle filling station that I saw, and no benches along the trail. I understand that this is a more intense hike. But those are simple accommodations that can be make for people who are there for the vibe of the trail, not just the athletic recreation.

Tons of trails in the Sandia foothills. You can some if the trails to some awesome rocks which are great for bouldering and exploring. I've hiked and run here a few times and still have heaps to explore. The only downside is limited parking but you can park along one side of the main street and start your hike a bit earlier.
