This place was absolutely incredible. I so highly recommend. The service alone was outstanding. We had a table next to us that was the epitome of a horrible table and all the servers just smiled and dealt with it. Our server incredible. So friendly and nice. The food DELICIOUS. If you haven’t tried this place I give all the thumbs up possible. Also check out their web page for a little history. It’s definitely worth the read.

Really enjoyed this place. It's a converted house, so seating is a little tight. But the drinks were great, nice wine selection, and there was nothing ordered at our table that wasn't wonderful (we all tasted everything). Next time we're in Louisville we'll be back at Jack Fry's!

What a delightful establishment! You could taste the history long before tasting the food. I could have spent hours soaking it all up. From the pictures hanging on the walls, to the lighting, to the music - sigh. Also, as a people watcher, I was in heaven from arrival to departure. Service: I'll start with a shout out to Lee. He wasn't helping us, still I stopped him & asked for his name after observing his skillful interactions with a very difficult table & compassion with an elderly couple. Every detail from getting to eye level & maintaining warm eye contact to speed & volume when speaking was on point. Next, the machine of a man - I didn't get a name but did find out that he's been there 4yrs &, while usually a barkeep, was bussing last night. I believe he touched every table in some form & did so with fluidity, grace & non-intrusive motions - amazing. He appeared to be doing a little of everything and doing it all quite well & quickly - always in motion. Overall, the unspoken teamwork was impressive. We arrived about 15min early for our reservation & were seated immediately. Our first dish: spicy fried oysters. While my hubs bit into a piece of shell (ouch) we still both really liked the dish. Next I had the shrimp & grits (app) as my main. It was perfect and a unique take that I'll likely find myself craving. I'll agree with others, probably the best shrimp & grits I've had to date! My dessert was the creme caramel with a perfectly executed sugar shell. I did take a bite of each of my husband's dishes - his salmon was excellent- cooked to a tender medium with a crispy coating & his raspberry sorbet was a perfect closer.

What a wonderful restaurant with exceptional staff! I celebrated my birthday here yesterday and the food and drinks were all delicious. Our servers were welcoming and the owner, Stephanie, graced our table. I'll definitely be back. 💜

This has been my parents' go to restaurant for as long as I can remember, and it only took me 27 years to finally try their delicious food and drinks! Everything was great- setting, staff, and atmosphere! Can definitely see why it's considered a Louisville staple ☺️

If you are visiting Louisville and can only visit one restaurant, then I feel really bad for you. Louisville is a great foodie city. Make plans for a weekend trip. It’s worth it! Jack Fry’s is a reservation restaurant whose walls scream at loud from characters and people that made this city. Overlooking our booth was jack himself. The booths are private, and you would think you are the only one there, but piano music in the background in addition to other patron’s mingling voices makes an atmosphere very enjoyable. The food is great too. All of our orders were delicious. That is something you would expect with a restaurant brandishing $$$ next to its name. We didn’t have any cocktails but Katy Perry was visiting couple of nights before for exactly that reason. In summary, if you are looking for a restaurant that is unique to the city, operating since 1933, you will find it in this Higlands neighborhood. Helpful things to note, small but sufficient parking on the side of the building, but street parking is plentiful as well. No outdoor seating and some vegetarian options.

I think this is legit my top 2 restaurants in Louisville! LOVED the food, LOVED the staff, LOVED the piano, and LOVED the low lit vibes. Dress casual. Warm.... did I mention the food was seasoned WELL?! Sorry, but very rare I go to a restaurant and everything is seasoned to perfection. Already recommended this place to friends. A hidden gem in my opinion ✨️

Small, local spot with a ton of history and character. Call ahead and make a reservation because it's a popular place. Great for a date night. Food was incredible. Ribeye is the way to go here. The appetizers are spectacular. Service was solid. Definitely worth a visit!

There were several of us and I do not recall specific dishes. I just had soup and salad and it was fantastic. The atmosphere was second to none and I cannot believe that, in all the years I've been to Louisville, this was my first visit. Will definitely be returning!

Its unassuming exterior hides a delightful and delicious restaurant. Our food was exceptional, and the staff (especially our waiter) were extremely efficient and helpful. The crispy capers on my Caeser Salad were delightful. The Creme Caramel dessert was absolutely heavenly and made everyone else at our table jealous they didn't get one for themselves.

This is a restaurant with a historical value. Some of Louisville's legends such as Muhammad Ali attended this place. The venue has a unique atmosphere and the walls are dressed in images representing the history of the place. The Food here does not let down and the service is amazing. Everything I have ever ordered has been great and my favorite desert to end with is the Creme Caramel. The prices are something you would not want to spend everyday but for that special occasion, it is something you will gladly want to experience.

Service Was adequate. Food was good. We went because this is the place everyone says to go in Louisville, but honestly, it was ok. The old fashioned was super grown up (not sweet), and the gin cocktail was on point. Shrimp and grits were pretty good. Flourless chocolate cake was delicious.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! We are not from the area, but we always stop at Jack Fry’s on our way home from Tennessee. I absolutely love the lamb, the wine selection, the service, and the dessert! :). We will definitely be back !!

I enjoyed Jack Fry's. I had the braised short rib. It was fork tender. The combination of flavors was great. The sorghum bacon jam was excellent. The dish was not dry, but I did wonder why there wasn't more of the braising liquid as a sauce though. I also had the exclusive ice cream flavor from Louisville Cream. It was very good. The service was relaxed. Not slow, and not in a hurry. Kind of dim old school aesthetic. Great signature local stop in Louisville.

My husband and I brought our out of town guests here. We had the lamb chops (me, pictured), filet (pictured), swordfish, and short rib among us, along with salads, wine, ice cream, and chocolate bomb. Everything was amazing. The lamb chop meal was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. 😋 Nothing beats the excellent service here, plus live piano music!

Little too dark of an atmosphere for me personally in the middle of the afternoon- but the Cobb Salad with additional grilled chicken was very good. I went out of my norm and ordered the daily chef's soup choice, and I didn't even taste it because it had mushrooms in it (it wasn't on the menu, our waitress just told us). They were very accommodating in taking it back and encouraging me to try something else. Should've went with my norm-delicious!

We tried short rib at Repeal Steakhouse in Hotel Distil last night. They are very good one of the best restaurants we have been to, have ate there many times. Hands done the short rib here at Jack Fry's is the best damn short rib we have ever had, 10 out of 10. Shrimp and grits appetizer you have to try. I didn't realize we liked shrimp and grits until we tried this here.

It was incredibly loud, one of the loudest restaurants I’ve ever dined in Louisville. The owners describe it as lovely but when you listen to bar room talk about sexual acts openly and loudly in the dining room-I disagree. I couldn’t carry on a conversation with my wife from the large, loud parties crammed in all around us, never mind the room’s acoustics. The food was 2/5 at best, there is better food and values in Louisville. We wanted to get dessert but left because of the noise. I’m far from cheap when dining out, but this was a poor value and NOT an elevated dining experience.

The food and service was wonderful. We were first thinking we needed to abandon our reservation we had for a few months. But Jesse the GM made accommodations for us and moved us around in his schedule. The food was wonderful, the service outstanding. Our waiter even made a young persons drink at the table several times to ensure it was perfect and “not so strong”. It was a great experience!!

First time trying and everything from the warm Brie salad to the braised short rib dinner with a chocolate bomb for dessert was AMAZING. I sat at the bar and had the pleasure of being served by Jimmy. Highly recommend this restaurant. Will definitely stop back in on my next business trip.

The food was amazing!!!! My husband and I came on 3/24 and ordered ravioli appetizer. The flavor was awesome. For our entrees we ordered the Salmon served with risotto and braised short rib served with mashed potatoes. Both entrees tasted delightful, and the temperatures were perfect.

Jack Fry's is a Louisville institution. We had never been there before but had heard a lot about it. It was just okay. Service was adequate but nothing special. We got the meatball appetizer which came with three meatballs. We had one each and left the third. Neither of us thought they were very good. I had the pistachio-encrusted salmon over risotto. The salmon was cooked properly. The pistachio coating was okay but not great. The risotto was under seasoned and bland. I am kind of a risotto freak and I get it pretty much everywhere I go. This would definitely be at the very low end of risotto I would expect in a nice restaurant. I hardly ate any of it. My wife got the braised short ribs. They were excellent. They came with goat cheese mashed potatoes that were also very good. The broccolini came out cold but they brought her replacement broccolini that was hot right away. It's the kind of dish you expect from a high-end restaurant. We got the Apple & Pair Napoleon as well as the Dark Chocolate Bombe for dessert. The Bombe was good but the Napoleon was special... Excellent. We enjoyed both desserts. I'm not sure we'd go back but we had a reasonably good meal.

Service: When I came in no one greeted me. Not good. So I just went to the bar and The bartender Ashley was awesome! If it was not for her outstanding service I would have left. She definitely made me fell welcomed and even paired an excellent bourbon with my dessert which is not easy and takes skill and experience. Entree: Grilled Swordfish The sword fish was ok but it was not great. The succotash tasted like frozen veggies. The fish was a little dry and needed salt. Each component tasted great on its own but when eaten together all I tasted was corn and sun dried tomatoes. I only had one leaf of Swiss chard, I don’t know if that was intentional or just over looked because it was my favorite part of the dish. The plating was crowded, messy and greasy to the eye. This is the menu description: Marinated and glazed with bourbon smoked paprika and ancho-molasses, served over an edamame and sweet corn succotash and braised Swiss chard. Finished with poblano aioli, chili oil, and crispy cilantro. And when I read this I was willing to pay the price, expecting pops of flavor but it fell short. Dessert: Lemon Tiramisu The dessert was delicious. The lemon curd was my favorite I could have just eaten a bowl of that and been satisfied. One thing I didn’t get was the flower. I did not know what to do with it, I know it was edible and I almost ate it; but I just couldn’t do it. Over all it was a good meal and these are just critiques I would definitely come back! Side notes: If you are visiting from out of town bring a date if you go here! And park as close to the restaurant as possible because outside around the building was a little sketchy the later it got!

The bourbon glazed surf and turf strip steak was incredible. Please make it a menu regular. Probably one of the best strip steaks I've ever had. Great food, excellent service, and cool vibe. Definitely worth a visit if you're in town.

Absolutely exquisite! We came here last week for a date night with my parents, and the atmosphere was exceptional, the service was exquisite, and the food was absolutely top-tier! I ended up getting the lamb and potatoes, along with one of the crème brûlée desserts, and a couple cocktails, and everything was absolutely exceptional! The bull came to $175 for two, so know you’re coming here to spend. But when the food is this good, the price is not a factor. My tradition, when eating out at nice restaurants is to order every dessert at the end of the meal, but I was just so stuffed from the main course I couldn’t! But I will definitely be back to try out more desserts!

Lovely atmosphere and the staff was great! They squeezed me in last minute and were so nice about it! The food was delicious—almost too beautiful to eat. There was live music (via pianist) and a warm environment. I had the lamb chop—first one ever… and it was yummy. Definitely recommend for a nice date night.

Excellent food and service. The special was scallops with a thinly sliced watermelon pickle and English peas. Really terrific. Escargot and fried oysters make for great appetizers. Service was very polished and they had a pianist doing jazz. The whole place is classy and cozy. Decent beer and wine selection. Dessert options looked very nice but we were too full.

We were so excited to visit this restaurant! The menu options looked amazing. Upon arrival, we were told that our 6 party reservation was noted as a 3 party. Half our table sat across the room and couldn't have dinner together! The menu was much more limited than online. The food was an hour plus wait. This is fine dining and priced accordingly. I expected a better experience. Each plate was delicious and prepared beautifully.

When you walk in and here the live piano playing, you know you are in for a treat. The scallops are the best I have ever had. The fillet is cooked perfectly. Sauce with the lamb chops and the potatoes are fire. The tradition of fantastic food be service has lasted the test of time!

We were fortunate to get 4 seats at the bar on a busy Friday night and wish we could have gone back Saturday night! Nick & Ashley were bartending and they were exceptional. The Malachi Manhattan was uniquely delicious! The Diamonds & Pearls got rave reviews too. You have to have the shrimp and grits (or just the grits - like none I've ever had in Texas). My wife and I split the burger and was the perfect dinner, especially with a couple more offerings from Nick & Ashley. Great experience!

The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was delicious. I enjoyed the salmon. It's a great place to dine but not it you're going to catch up with a friend. It's so loud you can't hear yourself think. Other than that I would recommend.
