Historic water tower dating back to 1850s. Restored and opened as water museum. Authentically detailed restoration, historic landmark. See and learn how safe drinking water initiatives made Louisville a pioneer in public health since 1850.

A super long time ago, I had one of my school pieces performed at a poetry reading and that was really cool. The indoor venue is quaint but you have to appreciate the historic appearance and unique location. More recently I did some modelling pics and it is such an amazing spot for photos! The massive front field, white building, and even a little stone bench amidst trees make a very good cottagecore style location.

Seen 'em in Milwaukee, Chicago, St. Louis, and now Louisville. Haven't seen one like this in the Greek/Roman style. Usually they're more Gothic. Pretty cool if you understand what they're for.

This is pretty cool looking! I've never seen a water tower that looks like this, though I did see a replica of this one at the Frazier History Museum. The paint job looks considerably worse for wear and there are figures around the -- parapet?? -- that weren't there when I visited. Maybe the whole thing is getting rehabbed. It was set up for a wedding when I stopped by so I'm guessing they hold lots of events here.

Very interesting and historic place to see in Louisville. Fascinating to learn about the water process and see the buildings. Thanks to the Louisville Free Public Library for adding this place to the Cultural Pass this year.

We aren't from around here so I didn't know what to expect. I just wanted to explore and take some pictures. We spent about 20 mins here and took some pics. Great place to visit if you enjoy history and some pretty neat architecture. I would recommend checking it out.

Such a nice spot beside the River. Sweet spot to jog and observe the boats as they come in and go out. A scavenger hunt booklet is available for those who enjoy that pastime. Take a tour when ypu have the op and can actually Slow Down and enjoy the sites/ history. Peace, Robbye!

The museum was closed when I was there but certainly an interesting peace of history built on 1857-1860 used to pump 12 million gallons of water in just 24 hours for the city of Louisville KY I’m pretty sure back in those days in was a very impressive accomplishment to be able to do this. Lots of parking on site the area has a nice park as well just of the interstate.

Nice park with plenty of parking working water fountain just in case you need it. Another nice thing is electric outlets in the parking area; not sure why, but that could come in handy. You will learn history about how they used to pump water for urban use, and how they do it today. You will also learn some pearls about water filtration and just how many people live and rely on the Ohio River. This is a peaceful place to stop, even if the museum isn't open.

It was closed for work and couldn't see anything. When we made our travel plans there was no where, that I saw, that mentioned this. Maybe some day we will be this way again.

This was a great stop. Interesting to see the historical building and the museum. A guided tour of the facility is included for the nominal museum entry fee. Louisville was a leader in water quality filtration and disinfection. I know this sounds geeky, but clean pure water is a necessity of life.

The Louisville Water Tower, located east of downtown Louisville, Kentucky near the riverfront, is the oldest ornamental water tower in the world, having been built before the more famous Chicago Water Tower.[2] Both the actual water tower and its pumping station are a designated National Historic Landmark for their architecture. As with the Fairmount Water Works of Philadelphia (designed 1812, built 1819–22), the industrial nature of its pumping station was disguised in the form of a Roman temple complex. Built 1860 Architect Scowden, Theodore R. Architectural style Classical Revival

We took the group tour for groups 10 or more. We really enjoyed it. The architecture and history behind Louisville's water distribution system is fascinating. The kids learned a lot about water filtration and the docents were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The " Quiet Giant" is worth the tour alone.

Beautiful historical find near the Ohio River: On the Kentucky side. (-: Recon for travels with others... near and dear to my heart. Barge, rowing team, and a catamaran all seen during my brief visit. The weather was adorable as well.

Awesome historical site near the Ohio River. Opportunity to review the historical marker and to see a rowing team, catamaran, barge on the river, and an engineer maintaining the Water Tower equipment. Oh, there are places to jog and walk as well. 💙

Tower is under construction so the entire facility is fenced off. Only parking lots and grass areas are accessible.

Great views, Great architecture, Great time. I recommend going here anytime there is a kingfish located next to the Louisville water tower.
