It's important that history is taught, even if it makes us uncomfortable. Judy C. gave a wonderful tour with lots of history/knowledge. She kept it real and didn't sugar coat the atrocities of slavery. It was very fitting that we were there during the Juneteenth weekend. The only part that I wasn't a fan of was, prior to our tour, in the museum they had a "day in the life of the enslaved"...and it was a bit too cartoony for me. It made it seem like being a slave was a happy way of life - AND IT WAS NOT!

Beautiful grounds and wonderful volunteers! Everyone is so happy to share their knowledge with you. The kitchen is my favorite area, though the house--which has been lovingly restored--is really nice, too! Locust Grove really brings history to life. Definitely keep an eye out for events here, too. They're always fun and well done!

We had a nice "private" tour of the house, (we were the only two visitors at the time). The interior was reconstructed to reflect the time George Rogers Clark lived there, and the finishes were very interesting.

This was our second time back at Locust Grove and the experience was just as emotionally shocking as the first visit. Bravo to the hard work the ladies and gentlemen have put into uncovering the names of those enslaved on this property. Bravo to the men and women that guide and narrate the tour, and stay to answer questions following the conclusion. Your passion aids to make the community knowledgeable about our past. Although the information was difficult to digest, it was necessary. We highly recommend this deep dive into African American history!

History in my own backyard! Our visit was part of the Cultural Pass with the LFPL. Great explanation to US History early expansion until just before the Civil War. The house tour is self guided and includes an "Eye Spy" for kids. There is a lot of reading. Walk the grounds for a feel of how life was lived in the early part of the 19th century. Honor and mention is given to the enslaved population that worked on the farm. We went in mid-July, and the insects of the Ohio River Valley were active. Also, I overheard a tour guide say they were in need of more helpers to tell the story. The few that were there did a good job.

On a whim I stopped by, I missed the last house tour (which does have a cost but the rest is free) so I enjoyed the gift shop, museum, out buildings, gardens, and grounds. They have a self guided tour you can take but calling a phone number so look for the little red signs.

Beautiful grounds. We stopped in and walked some of the grounds and visited the gift shop and museum portion, which were free. Greeted by very friendly staff who seem to take great pride in their job and the history of the place. There is a charge to tour the big house, but we were short on time.

A great home tour if you love history. Very nice tour guide. Nice ground to walk around and see out buildings.

Lots of history at Locus Grove...frontier America, Kentucky, George Rogers Ckark who founded Louisville, his brother William of Lewis & Ckark fame, and more. Great docent tour. Museum exhibit is interesting, not too long. With a AAA discount, the tour was only $6...well worth it for an hour and a half or so. Knowledgable staff. Very easy to get to. On the way down Blankenbaker Lane, you will drive by Zachary Taylor's boyhood home, and President Taylor is buried just a mile or so away in the Zachary Taylor National Cemetary on US 42.

This morning my husband and I attended the very last tour for the 2023 season of "Unfolding the Story: The Enslaved Community at Locust Grove." This was a coincidence — we just happened to be visiting Louisville on the final weekend — and I'm so glad that we didn't miss it. What a meaningful way to connect with the history of the enslaved community at Locust Grove and to ensure that the full story is sensitively told & heard. Highly recommended for locals and travelers alike. If you missed it this year, the 2024 season resumes again in April and continues through next October. Well worth the trip.

Beautiful place but let’s be honest, it’s a PLANTATION. One that proudly teaches that they owned “Happy Slaves”. Were they happy because they were treated like human beings despite their designation as property? Were they happy because despite being property they were treated as individuals with precious souls. No they were “happy slaves” because they created their own alcohol and stayed drunk. Burn this place to the Ground. Why is this monstrosity still standing? What purpose does it serve besides being a museum for intoxicated enslaved melanated persons.

We drove all the way from Cincinnati to visit Locus Grove today only to learn they are doing a Jane Austin festival in the evening and none of the buildings were open!! I saw nothing on their web page suggesting this would be the case, and frankly, I'm irritated. I saw no reason why house tours could not continue, perhaps minus tour guides, as people set up outside. (Perhaps there were legitimate issues why not.) Days off for working people come at a premium, and to lose and afternoon shifting to Plan B is disappointing. Otherwise, the grounds are beautifully maintained. We enjoyed the outside audio tour by cell phone, which I would highly, highly recommend, and I'm sure it will be one heck of a nice festival tonight. 🙄

Beautiful setting and lovely home, our guide was remarkable. I’m so thankful this home is so well restored so that others can learn from history. The day we were there it was set up for a wedding, what an amazing place to have a wedding. We had a picnic prior to our tour there is a great spot under shady trees with picnic tables.

The tour was excellent, and the information shared was very interesting. This is a lovely old historical sight, very near the river. Highly recommended to spend a couple of hours here if you're in Louisville.

Wife and I visited the place yesterday. Had a great time. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered our questions. We were in a small group and therefore not rushed through the tour due to time. Never cared much about history when I was younger but things change. The people you only hear about in history books kinda come alive when you walk through their home. Hundreds of years later. Really enjoyed the visit.

Kathy (Cathy?) was an amazing tour guide! She was very knowledgeable and eager to share the stories about Locust Grove. The grounds were gorgeous and I wish we had more time to spend there to explore. Due to COVID we weren’t able to view inside the main house, but the tour and the grounds are still worth seeing.

Make sure you plan for a guided tour of the house. Not able to tour the house unless on a scheduled tour. The tour guide was wonderful and brought this old mansion to life!

Truly a gorgeous venue. We were there for an antique show but well worth a visit on it's own.

Beautiful 1791 home once owned by William and Lucy Croghan sister George Rogers Clark founders of Louisville KY. Tour guide was very informative and explained things very well

Great Historical Place to visit. Very well preserved and our guide Hannah was very knowledgeable and she explained very well about ancient customs and culture. Collection of ancient furniture, life style etc. They have paid tour guide and I highly recommend taking one of those. 1 to 2 hour will be enough to explore this place ( Again it depends upon your interest in the history) Free parking and staff was really good and helpful.

We love coming here to walk the grounds and get some exercise! The grounds have several buildings to include the home of William and Lucy Clark Croghan, Lucy's brother was George Rogers Clark. The home is great to tour, but we haven't been since Covid. If you're looking to learn more about life in late 18th and early 19th century Louisville, or just want to get outside for a peaceful walk, head to Locust Grove!!

Went on the tour today and this was one of the best historical home tours that I ever went on. The tour guide Troy was exceptional and made the tour interesting, fascinating, and a true learning historical experience. Totally recommend and should be a must-do on your visit to the area.
