Cherokee Park - Big Rock

Tourist attraction β€’ Park

πŸ‘πŸ‘ I haven't been to this park in over 40 years. It's still as beautiful as it was back then and lots of nice improvements. Was able to find Big Rock but couldn't remember where the small tennis courts were that sat off the road were and if they are even still there. A lovely day of memories and fun... People often mention park, water, family, beautiful, creek, people, kids, great, clean, Nice,

The right place to hike around with quiet scenery.Great place for family picnic and fun for kids and grown-ups. Looking for Nine-hole golf? Mark on your GPS that it's the place for combo fun. My 3 years daughter loves exploring water creatures and catching fish 🐟 for fun. WISH THEY HAVE MARKED PARKING SPOTS.

Good old fashioned fun can be found here. Wade in a beautiful creek, leap into it from the top of the Big Rock, or swing in from a rope swing. This is one of my favorite spots in Louisville.

Great small playground and open space for enjoying the natural beauty of Cherokee Park in Louisville. Lots of wildlife passes through for the patient and observant visitor.

This was an AMAZING find. The water was crystal clear and easily accessible. The only downsides were that people can't respect amazing things, and tend to leave trash behind. We brought gloves with us and picked up a little bit!

I simply LOVE Big Rock Park. This is important to note: DO NOT SWIM HERE. ITS WATER IS DIRECTLY FROM THE SEWERS. (Admittidly, my family and I didn't know the name until just now when Maps asked me to review it, so we always call it the Cliff Park. 😳) My 2 favorite trails are the trail on the cliffs, along the river; and the hike to Cherokee. The cliff trail is 0.44 miles from the parking lot to the end of the trail. It's a beautiful trail, but I'd recommend not taking children under 3 and to have 1 adult for each child under 6. The hike to Cherokee is 1.51 miles from the start of the trail to the end. It's about 2 miles from Cherokee to the Big Rock parking lot. In all we walk 4 miles going to Cherokee. It's an amazing place teeming with wildlife; we saw HUGE caterpillars, deer, rabbits, dragonflies, crawfish, and more. 5 stars for sure, it's a great place to go with the family!

Probably my go to favorite park. There’s forestry, water that is certainly swimmable. Pretty decent community of people. Plenty hammock space. Shade, restrooms, it’s clean and for the most part people try and keep it that way. The building on site there which is kind of like a big facilities/Roofed/sheltered area is in my opinion-potential epicenter of most of the foul play around there. I wish they would tear it down and rebuild. Would serve the community better. Still 5+ stars!! Great place.

Nice little spot along Beargrass Creek. Playground is very small but lots of safe places to play along the creek and hiking for the kids. Even found a small waterfall!

Cherokee is a beautiful park, right in the middle of a big city. You feel like you’re no longer in the city, and can rest and take a peaceful walk on the loop or the other trails. I visit this park at least once a week! It’s normally very clean, I haven’t ever had issues with trash except maybe in one of the bathrooms (I think someone camped out in it).

A great place for the whole family and the best part is the price! There's plenty of room to be in the water other than the one deep pool where the rope swing and the namesake jumping rock (Big Rock) are.the shallow flats are numerous as you go upstream. It attracts most all types of people and most conduct themselves well enough that the youngsters need no parental earmuffs. A "must visit" on those dog days of global warming induced heat!

I absolutely love this place! It's one of the few places in Louisville you can go swim for free and even though it isn't that deep, it's very nice, clean and there's always interesting people and even sea shells in the sand nearby. The only reason I gave this four stars instead of five, is that my hard-hearted, dishonest, ex-girlfriend, lied and would bring guys down here. If you're on the fence with your soon to be ex-girlfriend, don't show her this spot.

One of the coolest spots inside Louisville. Couple nest trails from here. The creek is always fun, especially the rope swing. Hot spot during the warm months. Lots of GREAT hammock locations.

We've gone out a few times this week since it snowed and it was not only beautiful but fun. My son ice skated and I walked across the frozen water with the help of a friendly gentleman (Hi John). We went to do a lil fishing and ended up being blessed by God; besides my son almost knocking himself out on the ice. 😁

Saw old pictures of this in a local history book, it was so much bigger. It's still a decent size, but the water is pretty shallow here, usually. I wouldn't jump from the rock anymore. Cherokee and Seneca Parks are definitely worth visiting!

They probably should have more port-a-potties and more stuff for the kids playground but very nice place and a clean creek to play in or walk down no picnic area though and I didn't see any signs that said no dogs so must be pet friendly

I developed a strong attachment to all of Cherokee Park as a kid. And each time I go back I have just as much fun. It's an amazing like oasis right in the middle of the city

It wasn't as pleasant as it used to be once you get to BIG ROCK. The trash makes it look unappealing and the smell is Just horrible!! The other maintained parts of the park are awesome . Big rock needs to be tended to and I wouldn't recommend getting in the water without shoes as there are also snakes

Really disappointed in Big Rock. Lots of potential and nice facilities but it seems unkept and there is trash and grafitti everywhere.

  • 5/5 Scott W. 3 years ago on Google
A true living landmark for Louisville. We use to play there as kids in the 1960s and it's even prettier today. The trials are wonderful, but also great playgrounds for the kids.

  • 5/5 Daniel P. 3 years ago on Google
Big Rock has lots of space, shade and wonderful views and can accommodate many gatherings all at once without people being too much in each other's way. Beargrass Creek runs through it, and provides ample opportunity for wading although this is not something that is recommended. Officially, the creek is not suitable for himself CB use but if you go there on a hot day, you will see pretty of people in there cooling off.

One of my favorite places to visit in Louisville, beautiful and clean. The only reason I deducted a star is due to the condition of the Pavillion.
