Food was hot, delicious and while expecting 2 small peices of fish, the 2 I received were extra large and thick. Even the fries were a double serving and with the fish it was served piping hot. Price was a little expensive but well worth it considering the portions you received. Great restaurant with some very interesting artifacts inside and custom wood creatures all around the outside walking area. Even saw two gentlemen cutting a tree down and then with the flip of a chain saw began cutting, trimming, and shopping the large trunk of the tree into another wildlife creature. Great place to eat and take in all the outdoor hand carved creatures. This was my first visit but definitely won't be my last. Also, there's 2 large seating areas. 1st area you seat yourself and go to the counter to order. 2nd area is a bit more formal where you're seated by a waiterass who also ta k es your order and brings your food nice and hot to your table. Either choice is great. You can't go wrong. Great place to eat, great atmosphere, friendly staff and lots of people eating there for the 3rd or more time. Definitely worth recommending!!

Loved it! Even if you have to wait a while...it is totally worth it. It was very busy... Be prepared especially if the weather is nice. My family and I sat outside while the kids played on the playground and swingsets. The food was delicious and you get your $$ worth!

The food was awesome! We got the sampler, could easily feed four people. I know what I'm having for lunch tomorrow, leftovers! It was cold today so we are inside but they have many places to eat outside when it gets warmer. Lisa was it server she was friendly and prompt. The food took a bit to get to our table but that was expected since we dined during the busy time. The third picture is when we took the top layer of fish off wanted to show what was hiding underneath.

Mike Linnig's is a family tradition for us. If you aren't in the mood for fried food, I wouldn't suggest this place for you. We came ready to feast. The specialty is the fish sandwich. So good! Hush puppies.... to die for...... Onion rings.... Yum! They are very busy. They have the ability to seat huge parties outside. Be prepared to wait. Good things come to those who wait. Come for an afternoon, stay, and enjoy. The kids can play on the playground; the adults can enjoy the bar. Love this place! Tastes like home.

Impressive amount of people and outside tables, pretty clean, nice bathrooms, great atmosphere. It's near the river though we didn't take the walk to see it. Food portions were large, so was the price. But here's the rub. The fried fish wasn't hot and the fries were cold. Amazing for the volume of food they were turning out. How was it even possible to serve cold fries with this volume? Restaurants, hot fries always!!

This review is for out of towners since everyone in the Ville seems to think this place is amazing. I've lived here 10 years and constantly heard how good Mike Linnig's is. Tried it for the first and last time today. For starters, as others have stated, they definitely don't bring the food out to tables in any particular order. And I'm a former server/bartender so I understand how some dishes take longer to cook, etc. That was not the issue here. Next, you get served on paper plates and Styrofoam. With plastic silverware. Yes, at a "sit down" restaurant. Plastic. Tacky and super wasteful. Finally, and the worst part. I got a shrimp cocktail for my meal. The shrimp had clearly sat under a heat lamp because they were WARM. Not cold, not even room temp. I'm about to be sick hours later just thinking about it. Oh AND...the "cocktail sauce" (what a stretch) was bland and a weird color (see pics-darker than marinara?). Super questionable. For almost $70 for 2 people, this was a HUGE disappointment. How do you not even have real silverware?! It's almost laughable. Almost. My advice is save yourself the drive, money and potential food poisoning.

First time going. Went for a work party that my fiance's job had there. Food was delicious and the portions were huge. I will definitely go again. After dinner we walked down to the Ohio River.

This place is amazing. So much outdoor seating in a very relaxing atmosphere. It was busy but you didn't feel crowded or uncomfortable. Everything we ordered was fresh, hot, and delicious. The portions are massive. I highly recommend sharing! We got the fish sandwiches, oysters, and clams. The oysters are HUGE and very good. I highly recommend them. Definitely a great place to eat with both small and large groups. We will definitely be back!

Our parents love it so it's our place to go too. Long wait is expected because of its popularity. Our self-served order, to pick up and dine outside was about 30-40 min. The food wasn't as hot as it usually was. The rolled oyster was as good as usual, but my chicken livers were burned, and not hot. They were delicious last time though.

Where to start. This place has been a staple in the community for a long time, and everyone knows about it. Even with all the hype, it delivers with excellent fish dishes, and some ridiculously good onion rings. There’s new outdoor seating which is super nice. Make a point to get here if you’ve never been, or to get out and try it again.

Stopped by here while passing through on business. Huge portions and great tasty food. It was a little off season so it was not busy, but heard it can get pretty packed in the summer. Would recommend stopping by if you can.

Some of the best fried fish... ever! This place was as busy as it gets but we were seated fairly quick! Was going to eat outside but a soaking rain keep us inside.

The first time I came to Mike Linnig’s in the 70’s I felt like I had found Nirvana. There were motorcycle riders, families and all sorts of people enjoying the small screened in eating areas outside and delicious fish. All kinds of people in a fun setting eating delicious fish. Well they have remodeled a bit .. no more tiny screened eating areas but lots and lots of picnic tables under a lot of big old trees. Still all kinds of people enjoying the wonderful setting and very good fish. Our experience last night was good with a few hiccups. We got the fish sandwich with 2 huge pieces of fish and split it plus very expensive onion rings. The fish was very good but the onion rings were a fail! Over cooked and huge.. but not with $8.00. They were hard and the batter came off of them before you could eat them . We ate outside since that is the most fun part . We ate at a picnic table that had dirty dishes at the other end and no one ever came to clean it up. There was no garbage can we saw that didn’t have stuff stacked on the top. It is self service outside so you would hope that would help with the server shortage. All in all .. it was fine..but we would only do it once a year on a really nice night.

As a child, coming to Mike’s was a real treat. I remember white concrete tables and string lights during hot summer nights. The food was always excellent with flaky fish and onion rings that would make your tongue beat your mouth in happiness. Today I was disappointed. The portions were huge but the fish was tough. The first, onion rings, and hush puppies were good. However, the restaurant was dirty, the outdoor area was extremely littered, and the restrooms were pretty gross.

Mike Linnigs’s has delicious food & a unique outdoor seating area. Tonight my boyfriend and I made the drive to get fish sandwiches, they taste the best out of any that I’ve tried. The hush puppies are my favorite, I wish they had a sauce to pair them with! 👻 When you arrive you go inside and place your order, you’ll wait for your name to be called & when it’s ready - you receive a lunch tray with your order and pick your seat inside/outside. They are dog friendly as well and kid friendly too with a playground on the property outside. Kids can play while you eat dinner. There’s a beautiful trail that leads across the railroad tracks down by the river. Great trees for eno-ing and lots of spots for a picnic. Love!!!! 💛 🐠

It has been over 40 years since I have been to this restaurant, my how it has grown. Huge outdoor area very comfortable. If you’re eating indoors the service was fantastic. Food was cooked fresh and quick and bring an appetite because you were going to get a lot of it. Great value for the money.

A great place to eat with lots of outdoor comfort seating. Good food good beer. The Fried Clams are huge. The Onion rings are Great..."better than sonics" rings. Clam Chowder has a great taste that makes you think ocean. Hush puppies are so good. Rolled oyster is like a oyster filled hushpuppy.... acquired taste. Overall everything was great... top it off with a beer and your good to go... Plenty of room so bring the family. Ps the marinara and tartar sauce are must have...

Great atmosphere, although no water views as advertised. To see the river you literally have to take steps up a hill, down the other side and over railroad tracks. Fish was great portion but could have used a more non bland breading.

Great food and fast friendly service. I can't believe I never knew about this place. This will be my new go-to seafood restaurant from now on. The catfish plate was excellent and very reasonably priced. Probably enough food for at least 2-3 people.

I'm not the biggest fan of seafood. Having said that, their food is okay. Their menu includes a bunch of old-school seafood items like turtle soup and froglegs.. I got fish, fries and slaw, and an order of onion rings for the table. Another diner ordered hush puppies for the table. The portions were enough for two meals, and I took half of my order home. The fish was alright. The fries were pretty good, and the slaw was a bit different. It had a prominent bell pepper flavor. Old-school. The onion rings were crunchy and tasty, and the order was large enough for five of us to have several each. The hush puppies were cooked perfectly (which is really hard to find any more) but needed some more onion or seasoning or something.

My family's favorite place to get food. My son can play on the playground while I enjoy a cold beverage and some yummy fish! The serving sizes are huge. A family of four could easily share the seafood platter. Just ask for extra plates! There is plenty of outdoor seating and parking!

The food is fried too hard and could use some seasoning. Everything tastes the same no matter what you order (fish, chicken, shrimp, etc.). Bring your own seasonings with you to season your food when you get it. The food didn't used to be that bad back in the day, but something, unfortunately, has changed over the years. I think they focus more on pushing food out too quickly with no quality control vs. actually making a good tasting and enjoyable meal with every order (quantity over quality). The atmosphere is always nice though.

OMG! After 60 years of eating there as a young girl , it is everything I had told my daughter it was. We ordered the seafood platter with onion rings and slaw and could have feed another person and still take some home!

Always an excellent choice. Killer seafood but note that everything they have is fried. Try the turtle soup. Make sure you get there at a decent time or there are literally 3,000 people there.

I wish I could remember our server's name because this lady deserves recognition and a raise. We were left sitting for well over 30 minutes without a server. Now, we understood that there were several large parties happening on site at the time. But, the server assigned to our section must have thought she would get better tips from the older couples seated across from us because after our server took us she nearly knocked over people to get to the table of older folks. We love the food and that is why we returned but after we were taken such great care of when most people would have walked out we will be back as soon as we can make the trip again. If and when I can locate her name I will be posting the server's name so everyone knows exactly who will take care of them.

First time here. Saturday afternoon. Very busy which was expected. About a 20 minute wait to get a table. Like every place else anymore they were short on help. Took 10 minutes before server came to take our order. Close to 40 minutes for food to come out. No problem, we were in no hurry. If you want drink refills you have to go get them yourself which we were not told until we asked. The food was good and plentiful. My only complaint would be using bread instead of buns for the fish sandwich. Both pieces of bread were under the fish so they were soggy by the time you got your sandwich put together and then it fell apart as you ate. It was a nice place but not really for me.

Very good fried cod and generous portions. Hushpuppies had good flavor and were about 2” in diameter. Clams were good and large portion as well. Fries are just average. Baked fish was tasty with a little lemon-pepper. Tartar sauce was just okay. Premade and in little portions. I prefer the jalapeño tartar sauce at The Fish House. While the portions are very large (3 large pieces of fish for fish platter) the prices are also quite high especially for sides like onion rings or Hushpuppies. Onion rings were large but batter was falling off and in my opinion Kingfish has the best onion rings in town. Expect to bring home leftovers. What really distracted from our overall five-star experience was at that food came out lukewarm at best and we had to send a couple of things back to be reheated. While the fish and fries were warm, I expected them to be hot which is much better when you’re dealing with fried foods. I deducted one star. I will go back at a future date most likely. It is not close to just about any thing and was about a 35 minute drive. At one time they were at the State Fair but have not been there for a few years now. Whether you’re dine in or take out everything is served on paper or plastic plates with plastic cups etc..

My first visit. I don't love fried seafood but that's not their fault 😁. You will not go away hungry. Portions are huge and food is fresh with great flavor. Plenty of outdoor seating. It's a destination as much as a restaurant. It's a long walk from the river, but it is accessible.

  • 4/5 Family T. 1 year ago on Google
Mike's is happening. Still offering great fish. Can't comment on other main dishes because I always get the fish! Sides are fine and atmosphere can a little too busy (don't care for outside speakers announcing who's dinner is ready). Enjoyed the entertainment as provided. Service is not fast but you'll see the staff tries to meet the needs of very large crowds. During the summer it's the craziest. Still it's somewhere to go enjoy the fried fish. Don't forget to take a walk over the flood wall to see the river if your in good health. It's a little hike. All in all, Mike's continues to one of Louisville's historic restaurants.

Fish had a old taste to it. Coleslaw was mush, fried mushroom were like leather. Don't think I will return anytime soon. No seasonings on anything.

Great food, rude staff and very busy! Waited 55 minutes on to go order and you can no longer call your to go order in nor do it online like most of the places in the world! Great food tho! Worth the wait in my opinion!

We have always loved this place!!! I use to live in this area Valley Station so when we went there I was young way back then maybe in the 60s I have alot of memories of Mike Linings My dad would always get Turtle Soup My Grandpa would get 1/2 or a whole Chicken I've always liked seafood fish was the bomb and still is I do love Shrimp clams and onion rings but yesterday was Sunday lunch time and y'all were out of onion rings out of cherry coke tea was aweful tasted like it was the bottom of the barrel Also the clams were so tuff I couldn't even chew them!!! And to top it all off they said that I couldn't get the drink I love Strawberry Daiquiri only beer bc that's all y'all had!!! I don't know anyone who likes this favorite place for it was the last day y'all were open and not to have Onion Rings How could y'all just be complete out of the best onion rings ever!!! I have only had maybe 2 other times that I had to complain bc I'm just not like that but for yesterday November 7th 2021 the last day for y'all being out of so much I really wanted to scream but I kept my cool!!! But when we were pulling out of the parking lot I was really disappointed about it all!!! This just tells me that y'all don't care about all of your favorite customers that spent lots and lots of our hard earned money for you to be out of so many foods just to be let down All bc this was your last day until next year!!! Come on guys you can do better than that!!! I feel like we need to be replaced on what we spent yesterday $45 dollars

Had to go before the end of the season. The line was so long but it took maybe 10min to order and we received our food within 30min. The fish is some of the best you will ever eat. The breading is not salty, so good. The sides are so good. Love the mac and cheese. The best part is sitting outside under the trees with family. Farewell until next spring!
