Great service and great drinks! This is the Whiskey bar Louisville has been waiting for. Cute and intimate with a slinky surprise downstairs ;) You can’t go wrong with the Old Fashioned or Manhattan. Definitely need to check them out!

The drinks were very creative and the atmosphere itself was nice. We sat in the speak easy downstairs using a reservation for a party of 8. The initial service was slow, but once they got to us the drinks came fairly quickly. The one piece that caught us off guard at the end was their process for reservation and refund.. Apparently they use a 3rd party to reserve tables at $10 a head, which is then taken off of the total of the bill. No issue with that as a practice to cover losses if no one shows. At the end of the night we split the bill which meant there was not enough money on the tab for the person who paid the reservation to cover the refund. After a messy back and forth their manager figured it out, but if they were clear on the rules of engagement up front we would have had no issue paying on one tab and splitting the bill amongst ourselves. So really just a suggestion to make sure people are aware of this practice. Other than that you'll have a good time in a good atmosphere.

The online menu prices do not match drink prices at bar. My first round I ordered a single mixed drink and another on the rocks. I was overcharged for the price of two mixed drinks instead of one. On my second round I was blatantly overcharged for the price of the shot. Then I received an additional "up charge" as the cost for mixing the already overpriced shot. No other explainable reason exists except overcharging on the shots. And double charging the highest cost drink when multiple drinks are ordered using the same liquor in both drinks. This place must hire the most trickster accountants as bartenders on the side. I would recommend avoiding this place. They really stick it to you in the most subtle charges possible!

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. This USED to be such a great bar until it went under NEW management. I WILL NOT be returning. The managers think they can’t be heard when they are trying to “correct” their staff. These managers are rude and bullies. No one should have to work in those types of atmospheres. I was also informed that the manager, Allie, who was always above and beyond welcoming and fun to be around has been terminated. She always made our experience so much fun. I refuse to spend my money anywhere that treats their staff the way Gerties is treating theirs. Do yourself a favor and go to a different bar. This one is going down hill fast.

A group of friends and I stopped in on a Thursday night, it was a great experience. Live jazz band downstairs, great selection of liquor, awesome old fashioned. Highly recommend, will return. Great atmosphere!

Would love to be able to comment about the service, the interior, etc. but when we went all doors were locked and the place was closed, although all websites stated they were open. This was Friday July 21. We were there at 5 and saw multiple people also try to go in only to find the doors locked. The main bar was supposed to be open at 4 and the speakeasy at 5. We were waiting on friends so stayed until 5:45 and still there was no sign of them opening the doors

Randomly ran across this place and had such a great time we visited both nights we were staying in NuLu. Something for everyone. Great selection of bottles and very unique mixed drinks. Amazing location and can’t say enough about how great Stephanie was. Super personable, knows her stuff and went out of her way to make us feel welcome and valued customers.

Fantastic bourbon bar! Wonderful selection! Alexa gave me a great education on bourbon; what ingredients are required for a bourbon or a rye, the kind of casks, or barrels they are finished in, the areas around Kentucky, where several of them are distilled. I told her what I had in the past, and the kind of taste I liked she guided me to some wonderfully tasty bourbons that I had never even heard of. She is fantastic! There’s a speakeasy jazz bar, downstairs. But, I wanted to be up top, where I could learn and enjoy. Gertie’s will be my go-to bar, when I return to Louisville!

Speakeasy is downstairs with a live tenor sax player. Cocktails were decent. Not too crowded on a Friday night.

We got 2 Whiskey Sours, they tasted great but it took awhile to get service. We found ourselves sitting there for a while wanting another drink and decided to just close our tab and leave. Atmosphere is different to say the least, very “private” feeling.

Peace! Stumbled onto this spot by accident. Walked in and looked at the menu, realized there was a speakeasy in the basement. Gotta be one of my favorite joints rn. Real chill It’s a whole vibe. Low light feel. Internets BELIEVE the hype ☝️

David is the best! He’s so friendly and makes great drinks - and he let us in even before opening hours so that we could catch a game. Highly recommend!

Very lovely place. I enjoyed their drinks a lot. This is just perfect vibe for romantic night on a date. But it can be ideal with friends too but it is more common for date night.

Great whiskey selection. The pork and green chili taco is an absolute home run, though everything else we ate was also good. Their Old Forester barrel pick was excellent.

Gertie's is an amazing place. Such a chill atmosphere. Loved the big center bar table. Great music. Such a terrific place. Incredible cocktails. The Phillipine Queen was simply delicious.

Such a great place to meet up with friends for fantastic drinks in the coolest atmosphere! Our bartender Ali was so fun and so patient while my friends and I took forever to decide what we wanted to order. Can’t recommend enough!

Went downstairs to the speakeasy. The decor and atmosphere was great, but the service was lacking a lot and they gave us the wrong bill. We waited 20 minutes for someone to come take our order before finally just going to the bar ourselves. The drinks were delicious when we did finally get them. Would have rated 5 stars if it wasn’t for the terrible service.

If you can find it and you can get in this is a gem. A pure speakeasy, true to its roots, with a terrific bartender and great drinks.

My husband and my son rented out the lower level for my 60th birthday. While the space is super cool and a great asset to Nulu our experience with the staff was just short of terrible. The bartender was rude and literally I have received at least 20 comments from friends and family about how bad he was...like pouring a glass of Blantons and told my friend he was saving the last of the bottle for himself, and that's not even the worst of it!! So I guess our 35% tip wasn't enough. I am very aware its difficult to find good help these days but this guy was the WORST.

My wife and I were excited to go here while we had some time away from our kids. The bartender, Tony, gave us a great experience. The cocktails were delicious. I would definitely come back here again. They have a special speakeasy that's available usually on Friday and Saturday, that's something else you wouldn't want to miss..

Can't comment as much on the upper bar but the speakeasy is absolutely fantastic. Great ambience, good music, and fantastic cocktails. Sydney is a truly wonderful mixologist and creates some amazing and unique cocktails that are delicious and distinct. Tori, who i had the privilege of meeting on her final night there was an infectiously happy host and very attentive. Stephanie who i believe manages this gem has done a fantastic job of creating a truly great bar experience with amazing drinks, stupendous atmosphere and the best service anyone could ask for. If you are in Louisville definitely check this place out. (context: i'm from NY but travel for work 8 months out of the year. I genuinely only review things that are truly amazing or truly terrible while on the road.)
