What a beautiful area! Between the beaches, the red cliffs, the hiking, and kayaking there is plenty to enjoy. Surprisingly, there were not many places to eat so that keeps very nature focused. When going down the beach, you will find a gate made of stone that is the entrance of cave. It looks like it goes nowhere but if you pass the small stones at the beginning, the path gets very easy to walk and you end up in a secret beach... Much less popular than the main beach and really as good... Possibly even better as it provides more shadow.

Great 5.7km trail along the coast with great views on cliffs, sea, caves, sinkholes, and scrubby nature. Especially arriving west of Praia da Marinha gives you spectacular views. Trail is reasonably marked and certainly easy doable as long as at least you wear sport shoes and have water with you. If own transport, then parking near Benagil (big car park just east, just before going down to the small port), so you can walk both directions with your transport as base in the middle.

Beautiful trail along the cliffs! This is really a wonderful stretch that passes by some amazing rock formations. You can walk for hours back and forth and the landscape, although similar keeps changing and the views are stunning. We did not but you can also carry some packed lunch with you and enjoy your lunch with lovely views. We spent around 3 hours on the trail from Praia da Marinha till Vale de Centeanes but it was literally mid day so the temperature was also really hot. The time you'll spend here will probably depend on your level of fitness and how many stops you'll make to take pictures and enjoy the views. This is one of the highlights for my trip to Portugal.

One of the most beautiful trails of the Algarve. 6 km long path along the cliffs with views that you will take with you for the rest of your life! Amazing rock formations, hidden beaches, inaccessible caves and crashing waves in sinkholes right on the trail you will walk on, all with the blue of the ocean filling everything else. Absolutely recommendable!

Very pleasant walk along the stunning coast. Adequate footwear is recommended and decent physical condition (there are some steps). 4-6 hours return, depending on the pace and how many stops for taking pictures or going for a swim in the beaches along the way. Definitely recommend

Must do walking trail. Be prepared and bring water with you. The whole trail back and forth is 6 hours, it is correct if you stop often for pictures. Beautiful sceneries. We recommend!

Wonderful trail along the cliffs where you can admire plentiful of rock formations, arches, stacks, sinkholes and coves. I hiked from Praia da Marinha to Praia de Benagil and really enjoyed.

Beautiful hike with amazing views of the coastline and cliffs. You can make it to the end point in approx 2 hours including taking pictures ;) We walked back in an hour to the parking place again but now taking a dirt road. See my photo for the route. Best to walk on good profile shoes as it can be slippery on the stones. Follow the path with the red & yellow stripes. Take water with you.

We parked at Praia de Marinha. Almost empty lot at 8am on a weekday. This trail was great! It’s 7.4 miles round trip. It took us about 1.5 hours each way with lots of stops for pics etc. The trail is part packed dirt, rocks, stairs, through forests, cliffside, and even cuts through a cafe patio. I would recommend starting in the morning. Trail was quite empty and cooler temps. It’s mostly unshaded so wear sunscreen and bring water. There are a few places near beaches to get food or drink. It’s a mostly east walk, but I would wear good walking shoes (ie not flip flops). If you’re doing the whole round trip. There is a picnic area on the trail and sporadic trash cans. Go enjoy some amazing scenery.

It is very beautiful you can’t miss it if you are in the area! This was a hike I took on the last day of my trip and the group I was with didn’t do it but I went at it alone and I absolutely have no regrets!!! If you do it solo know that it feels safe in the trail during daylight hours. I only did 3 km roundtrip. The trail isn’t marked well so I would suggest downloading ALLTRAILS app and finding the trail to help guide your path. There are a bunch of mini paths on the trail so it’s easy to have a hard time figuring out where you are going, especially cause it’s a very hilly area you walk on. Wear good walking shoes too because the grip at times, especially slightly off the trail, can be a bit rugged. If it’s a hot day definitely bring like a Big water bottle like I did.

Stunning hike, medium difficulty. In the summer heat we made sure to bring lots of water. Parking was closed off so we had to park 1km away from the start. Not a problem. Follow the red and yellow markers. We decided to walk both ways and it took around 5 hours.

Heavenly walk with stunning views. Have to clamber a few up and down a few rocks but nothing to tricky. I would recommend walking footwear. Take water!

I recently had the chance to experience the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail in Portugal, and it's truly a remarkable adventure. The stunning landscapes and coastal vistas are nothing short of breathtaking. The trail offers a unique perspective of the region's natural beauty, making it a must-visit for any hiking enthusiast. While the trail itself is undeniably picturesque, it's important to note that the popularity of the route can lead to a high number of fellow trekkers and tourists. This influx of people can occasionally detract from the serene atmosphere one might hope for on a nature hike. However, if you're able to look past the crowds and focus on the awe-inspiring cliffs, hidden beaches, and mesmerizing rock formations, the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail remains an unforgettable experience. The blend of ocean breezes and dramatic coastal scenery make it well worth the visit, even with the minor inconvenience of encountering many tourists along the way.

Stunning trail along the cliff side. So many beautiful places to stop and take pictures. Absolutely loved walking along here and got some amazing photos. Highly recommend even for a short distance.

One of our favourite Portuguese hikes. Stunning views pretty much always. The hike is very well known and therefor can get quite busy, especially in the weekends. It’s supposed to be the best of you pick a sunny day, as the colours will contrast more

Great walk - about 3.5 - 4h back and forth. Worth every minute. Photo/Beach stops might increase timing significantly 😉. Certain experience on uneven terrain will surely be beneficial

Really stunning hike over the cliffs and rock holes of this amazing piece of Algarve coast. Even our 3 kids of 10, 11 and 13 yrs old liked it, unseen! We did a 30' break at one of the beaches that was also very nice. Must admit we did go back by Uber as it would have been too heavy to walk back seen the heat

Stunning view and wonderful trail! Thought we got lost a bit once we arrived at benagil. Tips: go up the hill on the left of the entrance of the beach then when you arrive at the parking, go through it and you'll find the path again.

Spectacular trail along the coast. Parts of the trail are fairly challenging, but they are spread out and there are many places to stop and rest if you’d like. The views are amazing. There are several times you can exit the trail for restaurants/bars if you need a snack and/or a bathroom, usually 3-4km apart.

Suggest you start early, not just to avoid the midday heat but the car parks fill quickly. That said, well worth the effort, beautiful views along the cliff face and the viewing point into the Bengali Cave from above. Parts of the trail can be challenging with loose stone and steep climb or descent, so decent footwear advised, and if you don’t fancy coming back the same way there is an easier flatter trail than runs parallel, albeit without the lovely views.

Well worth a trip. Spectacular scenery. Wear comfortable shoes with grip. Some tricky bits but nothing too mich if you are resinably fit and agile. About 3- 4 hours at a decent pace qith snack at photo stops. There are places to buy drinks and ice cream on the way and even stop for lunch. Go early to avoid crowds and get parking.

Lovely trail to walk. We parked at the main parking area and walked the 6/7km route to the hotel (end of trail). We then took an uber back to our car. Try and get to the start of the trail early morning, to catch a stunning sunrise. I'd also recommend trail shoes instead of regular trainers, as the paths are gravel and sand, so can be slippery at times.

Beautiful hike! We parked at Praia da Marinha and hiked from there to the Benagil cave. It was a little over 2 miles to get there and back. We didn’t want to do the whole 7 miles. Come early for parking because it will get insane and plus the trail has hardly any shade so better to start early before it gets too hot.

Such a great hike! We had a good pace and finished in ~2hrs one way. Took an Uber back to the trailhead.

Beautiful hiking trail! The views were stunning. We walked from Carvoeiro to Praia de Marinha. There are a few trail markings (yellow and red parallel lines - if they're in a cross shape, you're going the wrong way!). However occasionally it was a bit confusing to know which way to go (although luckily the trail is pretty popular so you can often just watch where other people are going..!) It unexpectedly rained on the trail while we were walking, which was a little scary because the trail became a bit slippery, and some of the trail is just loose gravel pathways right next to huge cliffs. We just stopped for awhile and then, after the rain stopped, took it very slowly and carefully until the sun dried the trail again. Ideally you need a moderate level of fitness because you need to occasionally scramble up/down rocks etc. Wear good shoes, bring a rain jacket or little umbrella, a hat, sunscreen, lots of water, a few snacks. Might also want to bring a towel and swimmers if you want to have a swim at one of the beaches. We bought some sandwiches but there are also places to eat along the way (eg, "O Stop" at Praia de Vale Centeanes). There are toilets at Praia de Vale Centeanes, Benagil, and Praia de Marinha. We planned to get a taxi/rideshare from Benagil, however by the time we were leaving (around 6pm), everyone else at the beach wanted to get a lift home too, so we got a bit stranded. We ended up walking about 30 minutes up the road and ended up managing to get an Uber eventually.

This hike is incredible and can't be missed if you are in the Algarve. End to end it's about 4 miles and takes four to six hours to complete (with stops for pictures, breaks, etc.). The trail has some rocks and hills so proper footwear is a must. It's possible to section hike, but you'd be missing out. You can do it solo and there is no entry fee. There are two toilets and one at the end near the beach parking lot. Avoid on a very hot day or after a rain storm. About 3/4 of the way through you can buy snacks and water.

We went on our own. Free parking. The only thing was when we got to a town we knew we were only half way but we could not figure out how to continue so we turned around. The markings could have been better but the views we did get were out of this world.

The Trail is nice, but if in Summer best on early morning. They said 6 hours, but I did it in 3 hours (return). I am pretty fast, but still, 6 hours are exaggerated. Need a bit of more marks, I found myself in the wrong direction often.

  • 5/5 ThePolishTraveller 1 year ago on Google
amazing views from the clifftops occasionally you can access great beaches, not much shade available on the trail so make sure to wear some hat/sunscreen and carry water. We have done it in April and it was already almost too hot so bear that in mind if you ate planning your visit in the summer. As for the timing it is around 6km one way. We used buses from Lagos to Amarcao so had a bit farther to walk and with plenty of time allowed for photos spent well over 5 hours. The actual trail starting at Marinha beach is less than 2 hours. A real bucket list must do.

No wonder why this place is top ten of world's most beautiful beaches! I recommend renting a kayak for 15 euro per person and go to the caves. Amazing experience!

Absolutely must do hike while in albufera. As majestic as walking the rim of Grand Canyon or Cliffs of Moore.. very different experience but equally moving. This trail is well marked The free parking on either side. It is only partially accessible to those with mobility issues. ***If you do not want to walk the trail backwards to your car you can always Uber or taxi

  • 5/5 Sarah 1 year ago on Google
Absolutely stunning walk along the cliffs. There are rock formations, a lighthouse, many beaches/coves to see. We were there in the height of summer and weren't able to do the entire walk due to the heat. Also worth bringing water with you and good footwear. Some parts of the trail could be challenging for some as can be narrow paths and steep inclines. Definitely worth it for the views!

  • 5/5 Kevin C. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful public trail that allows you to walk around and see amazing views. Be sure to wear sneakers or some type of hiking shoes but make sure you bring a towel for the beach.

  • 5/5 Peter T. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful trail with stunning views. Do go to the Bengali caves from Bengali Beach on the way. Book your boat trip in advance as they easily fills up.

I have hiked all over the US and this trail blows them out of the water. Breathtaking views along the entire trail. I recommend finishing at the O STOP for an amazing sunset and sangria.

This place is breathtaking! A place like no other and it is worth to visit it no matter if you are coming by the car or train! And an extra boat cruise is perfect, but take a small boat because it goes in few caves as well.
