Very interesting small museum. Collection owner is really old intelligent man which speaks good English. Just the address is not correct - museum moved to new location, 7 floor of east building 726 Yan'An Xi Rd.

Its current location: 6C8M+5M Changning District, Shanghai, China. Enter building, turn right (where it says 726). Take elevator to the 7th floor and follow 'k'.

Fascinating insight into the way the West was portrayed during the past decades. This museum is a bit out of the way, it's run down, and it's not very big - but it's still worth going to. The benefit of it being small is that it's manageable. You don't have to spend all day here, and you won't get overwhelmed like you would at a place much bigger. You're not supposed to take photos here, so that's why there aren't too many showing on Google Maps. I've included some images showing the residential building you need to go inside to find the museum. The security guards outside the residence are friendly and will show you the way.

This location is inaccurate, the collection has moved about 10 minutes straight north into a office building right behind the main road. You can find the correct adress on Baidu (Only in Chinese) and on the official website. Go in to the office building and ask some guard and they will show you where to go. It's a nice collection of posters and similar art, there's information cards in English explaining the history of the posters generally.

Amazing historical experience. Lots of original pieces. Gift shop items are more expensive than those you might find by wondering around (Mao's red book for example) but also contains some pieces you won't likely find elsewhere. Wonderfully laid out in chronological order, the museum does a brilliant job of taking you through the history of modern China and explaining various propoganda pieces.

Great little museum in a rather dingy building basement room. The proprietor clearly has a passion for collecting and displaying these posters, and he's kept them in great shape considering the conditions of the room. The gift shop is well priced and has a good selection of different items. I bought a fridge magnet!

Was great to visit and see the propaganda history. Was a little hard to find tucked away in a residential building but signs are there if you know what to look for - pics attached

If you like art and history, this is a must see in a city teeming with hidden gems. The Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Centre has dozens of original posters spanning from early 20th century to the 1970s, including comic art and sketches from the war years. I don’t know of anywhere else in the city (or the world) you could go to view such a collection of original posters. For a preview, many of the posters can be seen on the Art Centre’s web site. There is an interesting back story to the collection which you can easily google. The site is at shanghaipropagandaart.com The Art Centre recently moved to its current location on the 7th floor at 726 Yan An Road, in the Hua Min Empire Plaza, East Tower. In its new location there is a lot of space and abundant natural light from the large windows. It’s very easy to find in the east (right) tower of the plaza. The gallery is designed and the posters arranged so that you can walk through the several periods depicted in the posters, beginning with the pre-WW2 Shanghai Lady advertisement posters and spanning through the posters of several wars years, the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the 1950’s, 1960’s, and 1970’s. The layout takes you through the events of these periods of Chinese History from an artistic perspective. There is detailed information printed in English and French about the themes, events and content of each section and information about each poster, too. It takes time to digest the visual content On my second visit, my children were pointing out things in the posters I hadn’t noticed on the first or second viewing. If you like to contemplate the art, plan to spend at least an hour here. There is a gift shop with professionally made copies (thick poster stock) and original posters available, too, along with several unique treasures for kids and adults that you will not find anywhere else in Shanghai.

A bit hard to find, but worth the effort. The posters are in amazing condition for being so old and as many others have said, it is amazing to see how the west (the US) was portrayed. If you are a history buff at all, this is a must see. If you are simply interested in the place you live (If you are an expat) you will also find this quite interesting.

Literally located in a basement of a condo building that's difficult to find and get to. Vast collection of Chinese communist propaganda if you're into it, otherwise just looks like an amateurish gallery in a damp basement. No photos allowed inside this is what it looked like from the outside.

Hidden gem with an amazing collection. Must-visit if you’re interested in Mao-era Chinese history.
