I was initially hesitant to book here because of the distance from the center, but the incredible reviews I read convinced me to stay here. The views of the Mekong are world class, and everything at the hotel was amazing from the breakfast to the rooms to the extremely friendly staff. Don’t hesitate to book. It’s truly an oasis of peace in the otherwise hectic city center.

We had an incredibly relaxing experience at this resort. The location is fantastic, an easy ride into the old town (which they kindly provide complimentary), but in a quiet road so you really can switch off, enjoy the fabulous Mekong River front and lush green, spacious grounds. We enjoyed two different rooms, the VIP and King Suite, both were large and clean and had everything you needed. This is not a 5* fancy resort, but that was not what we wanted - instead you get more space, friendly and personal staff who take care of you, better homemade breakfast vs other more expensive hotels (which we stayed in, in Luang Prabang), and really attentive service making any trips or needs just easy and taken care of. The large river frontage for sunset drinks was perfect too. All in all a wonderful choice, lovely helpful staff including the owner Henry, and Soon who drove us around, great breakfasts and space to switch off. Thank you for our holiday, we will return!

We stayed at On the Mekong during our first trip to Laos. The location is fabulous - right on the banks of the Mekong (as the name suggests); a great spot to watch the sun setting behind the mountains with a cocktail or beer. It's a few minutes' drive from the centre of Luang Prabang but it's not a big deal - you can hire a bike directly from the resort, or if you need a lift, one of the team will drive you in. All the rooms - quirky and individual - were built from traditional and authentic Lao houses, moved and rebuilt to preserve the buildings. It feels like a traditional Lao village. Breakfasts are plentiful and varied each day, and served at long tables so you can chat with other guests. What really makes the stay such an experience, however, are Henry and his dedicated team. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, whether they are giving you a ride into town, preparing your meals, taking you on a boat on the Mekong, arranging trips.... Nothing is a problem and they all seem genuinely happy to help. We were lucky enough to be staying the same time as several other friendly and interesting guests, and one evening we all sat down to a BBQ with the staff. A really lovely evening, and a highlight of our time in Laos. If you are looking for a five star, shiny, glitzy resort, then maybe On the Mekong isn't for you - but if you are after genuine hospitality, incredible sunsets in a great location and a truly memorable experience, then look no further. Highly recommended; we would return without doubt.

If I could give more stars, I would! What a delightful, welcoming and quaint experience I had. The property is spectacularly maintained, the staff speaks english fluently, and the host and owner Henry is a wealth of information. I look forward to returning and recommending to friends and family!

Really amazing resort. Our only regret is we arrived so late we missed out on spending more time here, I wish we would've had longer to stay! We arrived at midnight and the staff waited up to take our bags to the room and give the tour like it was any hour of the day. Joe was welcoming and friendly and had a good humor. Everything we needed during our stay in Luang Prabang, just asked the front desk and they handled it. The breakfast was so good coupled with the stunning view that we didn't need an alarm to wake up the second day. They had some fruit, coffee, and cereal as buffet, with a daily dish the chef prepares on order and a yummy croissant. My gf is vegan, so at our request they made her a fried black pepper tofu dish on the omelette day that was delicious as well. We got the honeymoon suite and the room was clean and huge with a unique decor that fits the theme of the resort nicely. While checking out we had a friendly chat with the owner and he even gave us some personal recommendations for the next leg of our journey. All the efforts of the staff here are above and beyond. If you're looking at this place, do yourselves a favor and book a few extra nights. We wish we did!

Incredible place to stay when visiting Luang Prabang. While it is not in the town center, I see this as a plus. It's an extremely relaxing place on the banks of the Mekong. Most of the property is green space, sprinkled with traditional Lao style houses that are beautiful architecturally. While unassuming from the outside, you have all the amenities you could ask for inside each room. The whole team is friendly, personable, knowledgeable, and accommodating. They can offer you rides into town each day, help you rent a motorbike, or you can rent a bicycle daily (my preferred method) to explore the area. You can also book excursions through the team. From speaking with other guests, it seems like nearly everyone wants to stay longer or in fact extend their stay, so I recommend booking a day or two longer than you think you'd want during your initial booking to make sure there is space!

This resort is laden with unexpected luxury in a setting worthy of paradise. Located just outside of the center of Luang Prabang, right on the shore of the mighty Mekong River, we had an exceptional weeklong stay that allowed us to experience fully the local Laotian cultures and feel pampered and comfortable as if we were in the home of cherished friends or family. Every member of the staff, including the owner, Henry, has a unique life story to share. They represent most of the countries in southeast Asia and are universally interesting and welcoming. While I was there many guests who were just checking in, visited their rooms and almost immediately returned to reception to see if they could extend their stay. I met no one who was anything other than grateful to have booked their stay.

We had a lovely week at On The Mekong Resort and wish we could have stayed longer. The staff were so helpful and kind. The grounds were so peaceful and the outlook of the Mekong was just stunning, especially for sunset! The rooms were just as advertised and the beds were very comfortable. It is a bit out of town but you can easily grab a ride with one of the staff to town and get a tukuk to drop you home.

We loved our stay at the resort. Really friendly and helpful team, highly personable, absolutely stunning sunsets, tasty and healthy breakfasts, and I love the design of the resort - so creative and lovingly built traditional villas, furniture and local handicraft and art. We had a great time at the resort.

Service was really great from the airport pickup till we left. Great breakfast every morning. Beautiful sunset views. Zar Nay was a wonderful and caring guide/bartender/host. Henry was very responsive with his messages. The only down side was the level of pollution in the air which was all across the region due to crop burning.

The place was heaven. It’s so slow paced and has some of the most amazing croissants. We stayed here for ten days and the experience was amazing. If you love coffee, don’t miss out on their cappuccino, it’s awesome !!! They had four breakfasts which they rotate throughout the week and all of them are amazing. The fruits are fresh and you get ample of watermelon, dragon fruit and mangoes. The staff are quite polite and friendly. The rooms are clean and has all the amenities you would need. They do room service everyday. They have free drop offs at the night market every day. A must try is the taste of ceylon restaurant which has amazing Sri Lankan food located near the night market. We had an amazing stay here. Book your trip to the Mekong river and the falls with them. They plan the entire trip and it’s a lovely experience. Laos you were so beautiful, until we meet again.

Wonderful stay with the best river view and delicious breakfast in Luang Prabang ❤️❤️ If we could extend our stay we would!! Henry, Joe and all the other staff made sure we have everything we need during and even after the stay! The property itself is surrounded by nature, and also right next to Mekong river. They serve high quality breakfast(different dishes+french pastries) with private chef, and we can even request vegan/vegetarian dishes from them 💚 there’s also laundry service, scooter rental, taxi and shuttle bus to night market, waterfall tour/ river tour if you want. Don’t let the picture on Agoda scared you away because they didn’t show much, they have big beautiful and clean rooms!! 10/10 recommended!!

Believe all the 5 star reviews! On the Mekong is not only a beautiful resort in the most magical of settings, but the staff are wonderful and can't do enough for you. On entering you feel you are joining an extended community - the staff live on site with their families which adds to the lovely village vibe. Our room was beautifully clean and very comfortable with a fridge, and facilities to make hot drinks. The owner even went out of his way to supply a milk alternative for me which was incredibly kind. Delicious breakfasts and sunset drinks on the terrace overlooking the Mekong were absolute highlights of our trip. Staff were happy to drive us the 5-10 minutes into town in the evening for dinners and we easily got tuk tuks back. They can also arrange scooters and boat trips on the river. I've never felt so relaxed staying in a hotel. Highly highly recommended!

amazing place directly at the mekong. the view over the mekong and the mountains is breathtaking. the resort itself is very beautiful. most of the area is green only occupied by grass and trees. all staff are extremely helpful and friendly. our room was in pristine condition. perfect place for a quiet and relaxing stay.

We had an amazing experience in On the Mekong Resort. The staff and Henry, the owner, were very nice since we arrived and they were very helpful. The room (Double Deluxe) was nice and comfortable. Breakfast was very tasty, and it changes every four days. They offer special dishes and western options. This place is peaceful and it's located 3 km (approximately/ 6 min by tuk-tuk) from the city centre, but they offer a transfer service during the day. Finally, we would like to highlight the terrace, because it has the best views from the sunset on the Mekong river. We'll never forget this landscape!

One of the best experiences ever! The location, the views and the peace of the place is unbeatable, the traditional Laos houses give the place an authentic vibe - whilst being very comfortable. The mattresses and pillows and linens provide for a good night sleep to the sound of crickets. Breakfasts overlooking the Mekong were incredible! You can easily spend a week here. what made this stay truly special is the kindness and hospitality of Henry and all the staff. I felt truly welcome and at home while being alone in a foreign country. Thank you so much to everyone working at the resort for this incredible experience! Cutest cat Lucky as a bonus for cat lovers 😺

Everything was remarkably spot-on! Room was spacious, clean and comfy. Breakfast was delicious. Staff was outstandingly attentive and helpful!! Location is great (awesome Mekong view), the property beautiful and clean. Rooms even had modern technology (TV, air con, good wifi)! If I could give 6 stars, I would!

On The Mekong Resort gets perfect scores across the board. The views here, especially at sunset, are second to none. The location is fantastic, just a short tuk tuk or motorbike ride from the main part of town. The rooms are extremely clean, each of the 4 rotating breakfasts served are delicious, and last but certainly not least, the service is phenomenal. Henry and the staff here are so incredibly friendly and accommodated all of our needs, whether it was securing a motorbike rental for us, delivering amazing food to the resort when we weren’t up for driving to the amazing night market, handling our laundry… I could go on. Book this without hesitation and stay for at least a few days - you won’t regret it!

This place lives up to the reviews. I usually like to stay close to the action and was hesitant to book; so glad I went for it. Henry, the owner, is responsive to messages. The staff is INCREDIBLE. Book the $10 airport shuttle through the resort, it’s worth it. Free rides into the city and the staff coached us on how to easily get a tuktuk back (less than $3US). I read other reviews about the temple next door and it is true, if you’re a light sleeper, bring earplugs but do not let this stop you from staying here. The temple is part of the charm in LP and you can participate in alms giving while avoiding the throngs of tourists downtown. Book tours through the resort, I almost hesitate to say resort because it’s more like a small family. Support them (costs are also less than Viator or other companies) you’ll know what I mean once you stay. I read the reviews about how everyone wanted more time here and within an hour at the resort, my wife and I extended an extra day and Henry moved us to the honeymoon suite (it was our honeymoon). I hope that life affords us the opportunity to visit this part of the world again. Gorgeous sunset views. Drink a Lao Lao Mood from the bar. Visit Laos, stay here.

Excellent hotel. Great location off of the Mekong. Riverside seating and bar ideal for evening sunsets. Concept of a Lao village is awesome. Rooms brilliant. Staff super friendly and helpful. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Without a doubt my favourite stay in a hotel/resort ever. All of the staff are incredibly friendly and genuine, they are always on hand to help out with any requests. Henry the owner makes a huge effort to make everyone feel welcome. Some of my favourite days travelling have been spent at On The Mekong resort. Highly recommended!

Overall, great experience. I would travel to Laos just to stay here. With regards to the property, it's beautifully kept, right on the river and near the city center. The rooms are exceptionally clean, comfortable and full of personality. There were so many smaller details that made the stay memorable, like large enough bath towels, hand towels AND wash cloths being provided. Staff was welcoming and helpful and ready to assist. As cliche as it sounds, it was like a big, happy family. Everyone wanted to be there. My only advice for those coming is to bring ear plugs, as the property is situated next to a temple, so you may hear the 4am drums being beaten. Oddly enough, not everybody hears them 😂. Either way, I could go on and on, but nothing I say truly captures the essence of the property. You just have to go. Thank you Henry, Zerney, Joe, Luchi, Sun, Gem and everyone else!

This place deserves so much more credit than words can express. Henry, the owner, and staffs have made this travel journey so valuable and memorable. Both would go out of their ways to ensure your stay with them is pleasant as possible. This place also ticks so many relaxing travel checklist, great breakfast - done, friendly staff - absolutely, incredible Mekong river view - fantastic, awesome checklist of activities- no problem ! Just some things to note. Resort is located just outside of town however, free shuttle is provided in the evening at the time of your choice. Rental are also available within the resort to make things easier. Overall, super happy with the stay and will be returning in the future.

😠 Staff were extremely unhelpful. Due to the bus arriving early we got to the hotel at 6am only to sit in the freezing open air reception. 👍👍 I always try to book a room here whenever I visit Luang Prabang.
