This is top 5 my favorite place in this world. My family and I go on the weekends and hang out camping and fishing all weekend. It's only 30 minutes from my house so we go sometimes just to fish or just walk the trails. The Rangers are awesome and answer any questions you have. The only reason I'm posting 4 stars is because there are no showers. Check it out I guarantee you will fall in love with nature and the peace and quiet.

Beautiful, enchanting, picturesque. Over run with mosquitoes! Extreme heat : stifling. This is in your face outdoors.

I love visiting Lumber River State Park. The trails are nice, and the park is well maintained. There is beautiful scenery of the Lumber River, great fishing, and wonderful picnic areas. If using Apple Maps, be sure to put Orrum, NC into the address, as Apple Maps will take you to the Chalk Banks access in Wagram. The river does flood after heavy rains, so do prepare for that. This is one of the best places to camp if you love camping.

Beautiful camping spot. I think it's worth pointing out that you cannot drive to any of the camp sites. There is a main parking lot and campers must walk to designated sites. Not to far of a walk but a walk none the less. Also the group camp site is half surrounded by a swamp so the mosquitos were terrible. Late fall would probably be the best time to go.

Not overly crowded. Nice hiking trails that are pretty covered by trees. You do need to be aware that there is a lot of broken glass on the trails especially Mill Hole

Great park with hiking trails, tent camping and river access. Canoes are available to rent. Bathrooms were very clean and well stocked.

The park is awesome fill of wonderful plants and wildlife. There is a native plant display that has some wild variety labeled for you viewing pleasure. The river runs along the side of the park and is very accessible for viewing and fishing. There are wonderful areas that have new swings for two and also bench seats to allow for a rest. There are well designed campsites that have a fire pit and grill screen combination. The tent area is outlined and leveled. There is a nice boat ramp that had a great runway. There are shelters for picnics and nice trails too hike. Great place to take a date for a walk or maybe just grave the dog to enjoy some nature.

8-12-23 This seems to me a paddle type state park per the signage and maps, but there are plenty of campsites and some hiking. We come to parks to hike, so I will stick to that. We did all the trails (Naked Landing, Griffins Bluff, Mill Hole), which totals about 2.5 miles or so. A large shelter with bathrooms is between Naked Landing and the other aforementioned trails. The Naked Landing Trail has its own parking area, a great viewing area on the river (nice swing), and a walk along the river with some campsites. Good views. Griffins Bluff and Mill Hole are good trails. These can be accessed by the shelter with its own parking area. Rock gravel, some wooden walkways, a pier, swampy type views, as well as views of the river. Easy. Semi-shaded. Campsites are on Mill Hole. These loop you back to the shelter area. The uniqueness of the Lumber River with its black hue is neat and perhaps one of the best "river" state parks in NC (second only to Eno, in my opinion). Like it.

Beautiful but seems to be best enjoyed by boat! We found out from a very kind and informative park ranger that Lumber River does NOT have boats for rental (BYOB-bring your own boat). However, you can call and set up a ranger-led tour ahead of time for your party, which is free. I’d recommend the park for people nearby but not for those coming long distance—unless you have a boat. At the Princess Anne Access, we walked the Griffin Whirl trail. It was pretty but very buggy (definitely wear bug spray!). I enjoyed the quiet, cypress “knees,” and watching the strong river currents. Note: The ranger said that people use floats but it’s not recommended; they’re likely to pop very quickly due to debris/branches in the water.

Insta- @Goosefrabah_actual, @innachka_vs The most excellent camping experience. Top notch rangers and staff, extremely clean and well maintained grounds. Multiple fresh water spigot locations, trash cans located everywhere (emptied daily), bathroom is lit 24 hours a day, kept in pristine condition. Reservations online, w/Military discount - $12, Regular - $15 (Rumors of 30lbs catfish being caught regularly)

Both the Chalk Banks and Princess Ann entry points of park are nice parks. Plentiful picnic areas. The parts I was in were clean and well kept.

This place is beautiful nice place for fishing or just walking the trails. The bathrooms were clean and there have places to refill you water bottle or just cool off. Lots of picnic tables and some grills there is even a horse shoe pit for those who like to play. Take your sunscreen and bug spray tho. We even met some of the wildlife officers who were very polite and full of information we will definitely go back to this spot for family outings.

It's a cute little place it has canoeing and boating but you have to bring your own boat plus it has campsites and some hiking. It's a nice little Park for a family outing.

Lumber River State Park offers a breathtaking display of nature’s beauty. The majesty of the Cypress trees lends a unique energy to the landscape that’s hard to find elsewhere. However, a word of caution to potential visitors: timing is everything. My midday visit during Carolina’s notorious heat proved a challenge. Not only was the sun intense, but the local insect population seemed particularly keen on making a meal out of me. For those looking to truly appreciate the park’s splendor without the additional challenges, I’d recommend choosing a cooler time of day or perhaps a different season altogether.

Beautiful park with pavilion, restrooms, boat launch, fishing area, hiking trails, bike trails. Restrooms. If you intend on being there a while get your drinks and snacks before you leave to go. There's no store within 20 miles of the park.

Love this area for paddling, though there can be downed trees after a storm so check with the nearby ranges office before you visit. With any paddle, it can be less crowded if you go during the week and in the early morning - these are my favorite times to go. Lots to see on this paddle with any direction you choose. Take note of the current if you have to paddle back. It's better to head upstream first so you can have a more restful ride on the way back. There have been complaints about bugs but when I went in July, they we not an issue. There are restrooms at this launch, picnic tables, a ranger office and camp site. I will be back.

Beautiful peaceful place. Ideal for small water craft. The river is easily manageable and VERY scenic. Trails are well maintained as well.

👍👍 I bought a red mini poodle. Sonya was very easy to work with. The puppy was in great condition. She did well on the long ride home, and has socialized with my other pups well. I love her so much after only a few days!

😐 Decent park, for all that is holy. Where is the shade on these parks? The people who get approval for these types of parks without shade should be fired and dragged through the streets. 3 stars for no shade when it's 90 + degrees outside.
