11/12/23 I felt the need to review this again as they apparently have a new chef. The whole line up is new. Service was excellent- didn’t get his name- ponytail Northern Irish guy. He was amazing. Food- here is where it was not as good before. Huge Sunday roast but it lacks taste. We ordered 2 roast lamb, 1 roast chicken and 1 salmon fish cakes. The roasts were huge. However my fish cakes were the size of a gold ball. So 2 golf ball size fish cakes, chips and salad for £15 is a bit dear as half a roast chicken is £16. Most importantly…. The food was nothing to shout about. It’s ok - it doesn’t stand out. I would come again though because it’s convenient. So… I’d say - give it a go if you’re in the area - don’t seek it out. If you travel to this area, seek out the Three Horseshoes in Laleham instead. It’s only 2-min drive away. September/October I’ve been here many time in the last 15 years and have seen it changed hands a few times. The food has been consistently good so cannot fault it for that. I’ve taken my son there after school at least 2-3 times a month over the school years and he’s now a grown man! We’ve had meals there, drinks… always good. I hope it operates for many years to come. As long as the food, service and ambience are good - it should do well whoever the management is. So, with the latest new management and new menu- the dish I can recommend is the red snapper risotto! So so good. Looking forward to try the others soon.

Really friendly welcoming staff. I popped in for a catch up with friends. They serve lovely coffee and we were never made to feel uncomfortable just sitting drinking coffees for an hour. We will go back for a meal soon. Thank you

Good quite place for lunch. Staff polite and attentive, food was delivered promptly. Taste was average, not much flavours (I have had better burgers 🍔). Menu was limited but reasonably price. Has parking spaces available which is a plus. I’m between 3-4 stars for this place.

Hidden gem. Staying in Thorpe park and wanted to come for a meal out of the park and got an Uber here for the vegan roast. Great vegan options plus nice decor and really enjoyed our time here. Thank you

Popped in today after hearing about the reopening. Thoroughly enjoyed a relaxed afternoon sitting in the bar area and can recommend the Lobster & Crab ravioli, very tasty! Well done to the new owners, great feel to the place, we’ll be back!

Only giving 4 stars because the food wasn’t the best and really it was below average and over priced. The Service from Jack was excellent and really made up for the quality of the food. He was the only person to come to our table and ask if everything was ok , because of this we decided to stay and order more drinks! Lack of atmosphere but he was extremely attentive , made an effort with us as customers and really made a difference to our experience.

The decor was lovely. The food not so good. Grilled chicken was very dry and the burger was too salty. I accompanied a gentleman in his 80's there for lunch, I am his carer, and he did not appreciate being addressed by the staff as "you guys" but as I said, the decor was lovely.

Really happy with the changes. Citron restaurant is a great addition. Opening day and I think it can only improve. Live 5 min walk away and have always wanted it to be better than it was. We had a nice meal, not wow but above average. The staff definitely want it to succeed. Small improvements will be beer served in correct glass or neutral glass. But was told they are waiting for new one. Plates maybe could have been warmed more (not that the food was cold). Overall really looking forward to continuing to improve. More likely to pop in for a beer as they atmosphere is now more chilled and friendly.

Lovely atmosphere, great food, staff friendly and welcoming, we came in a group of 5 with an elderly family member (don’t tell her I said that) and a very well behaved dog for lunch, we were accommodated with suitable seating with no fuss. Food was excellent. Booking system was easy and useful to have a note section to declare any extra requirements. Would 100% recommend, will be returning regularly.

Went there with 3 of my sisters tonight for dinner. The food was amazing. 2 of us had camembere fritters for starters, which was so gorgeous! Beautifully presented too. My main was salmon and it was beautifully cooked with a gorgeous sauce, on a bed of lovely creamy mashed potatoes. One sister had a lovely spinach soup. All of us were delighted with the quality of the food. Nice friendly and very well presented staff. We will definitely return!!!

Pizza was decent, but as you can see from the picture, there was only 4 tiny pieces of pepperoni on my pizza, and for £15 you don't expect such small portions! Disappointed, staff are lovely and decor is nice but they need to work on the food quality or lower the price.

The food is amazing with a decent size menu. Plenty for kids and lovely staff. In the evening it gets nicely quiet, and if you don't want to sit inside with the sports on, there is a nice seating area outside with benches. All in all, a decent pub! Edit: They do proper pub grub, no carvery. Stars unchanged in this edit.

Food was nice but expensive and portion on the smaller side. Went for the chicken burger, the salad consist on one small slide of lettuce and one slide of tomato, that's it. Chicken was nice though. Limited menu too.

We were served by Emma, Daisy and Bekah last Sunday. My party of 4 all opted for the Roast and we can honestly say that it was wonderful. The staff were very attentive without being intrusive and were very friendly. Thank you The Retreat for a wonderful meal and great service!

Four of our party had salmon with seafood risotto but portion of risotto was extremely small. It was very tasty but looked like half a portion. Chicken in Caesar salad was breaded, which seemed very strange, as it's meant to be roasted. Ice cream scoops were very small for £6. Service was slow but we didn't mind as busy catching up with friends

Staff very friendly and welcoming. The food was outstanding will definitely be going back again. Best calamari we've had. The steak and confit of duck was so great too. Highly recommend this place to everyone who appreciates fine dining. Thank you for a great evening Retreat team! 😍

I'm torn regarding the Retreat/Citron Brasserie. The positive points at lunch time for us, the food was magnificent! Between us, we enjoyed a lovely Mushroom soup, Coq Au Vin, Duck, Lemon Possett & Bread & Butter Pudd. All delicious, compliments to the Chef. Decor, toilets all beautiful. Waitresses of which there were two, were very pleasant and well meaning, but inexperience did show. There was an overly long time where we were left standing, waiting to be seated, for our 1.30 booking. Then followed a lengthy period before any order was taken, even for drinks. A feeling of "chaos" when the restaurant was not overly busy. Our barely used napkins were removed from the table for some reason, when our pudding arrived. There was an on & off very noisy power drill being used very near the restaurant area, which does nothing for the ambience of a nice French bistro lunch. No one asked if we enjoyed our food. Little touches that would add to the experience, were amiss. I think a bit more attention to detail outwith the food, could make Citron Brasserie a regular place to eat.

Had a very nice meal here this afternoon. I would recommend the fishcakes. I can't wait to go back to try more of the new menu. Fantastic friendly service, we will definitely be returning. ( Good value for money)☺️

Have just enjoyed the seared seabass with ratatouille and perfectly creamy mash potato. The pesto puree was drizzled delicately and each bite was a flavour sensation. The seabass melted in my mouth, but, ended with a lush crunch. My partner thoroughly enjoyed the brioche burger which was exceptional. We will be back. It is so nice to have such amazing food round the corner. Thank you Citron and the Retreat.

We approached this restaurant last Sunday to try to have a bite to eat, but the place it wasn't very appealing 😑😒 but We were adventurous and decided to popped in for a late lunch, and what a surprise it was when we went in 😊😊 an awesome place to have a Sunday roast 🥩🍗🥔🥕🥦🧄 great and friendly staff, shamazing food and the best of it all not that expensive 😁😁✅️✅️✅️✅️✅️ We didn't wait at all for our food it worked really well for us, but not so well for other costumers that had to cancel their desserts when the restaurant started to get busy, the staff lost the rhythm and people were turned away because of shortage of staff 👎🏾😔 God knows how long they had to wait for their food 🤨🤔 that's the only downside for me. After all it didn't happen to us so for me still ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ keep it up the good work 💪🏾

Visited for drinks and food early Sunday evening,5 people. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food was below average and disappointing. Won't be coming back. Only some items on the plate from advertised, burnt buns, the Thai curry had undercooked veg and no flavour. Maybe a bad day in the kitchen?!!

The refurb has completely changed this place. It was nice before but it's very nice now! Excellent drinks selection. Menu is great, and the food was lovely. We went quite late in the evening so didn't get a chance to see the beer garden. It looked lovely though, fairy lights dotted around the walls and looked like there was plenty of seating. The car park was full so we had to park on the road opposite but lucky it's not permit so parking wasn't an issue.

Lovely place. Clean. Friendly staff. Food was fabulous. Phillipe our waiter was great, had an amazing sense of humour. Some menu items were unavailable due to the recent food shortages as to be expected really but our meal was FAB, we had nachos to share to start and all had a pizza for main which was sooo tasty! Cooked in a proper pizza oven! I really couldn’t fault this place. Very reasonably priced too! 100% worth a visit if in the area, we had just been to Thorpe park for the day .

The food was delicious. Great service. It's a good place to have dinner with friends and family. They allowed your dogs' inside. Very clean tables...and chairs. (I am someone that looks at that because it's so gross to see food or stains on the chair/ tables before you seat down. ) I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family if they were looking for a good place to eat and/or to catch up.

Love this place. The pub has long been due an overhaul and the new owners 'Citron' have revamped the menu and given the pub the boost it needs. We really enjoyed our (French inspired, but reassuringly British!) food, prices were good and service was efficient and friendly. Can't wait to go back.

Had pre booked Christmas dinner for today at 4pm paid in full, to turn up and be told they ‘overbooked’ and you could tell there were people everywhere and no one was even wearing masks!!!!! We waited over an hour to even be offered drinks, no bread or starters. When asked to speak to a manager they just gave us our money back with no apology so now on Christmas Day where we thought we had a meal we had to try and find some food to eat! Christmas ruined! When trying to contact the pub for weeks to update allergy status no one ever answered the phone after trying for hours a day. DISGUSTING SERVICE!

Food was good but waited ages at the bar for a drink and it was not busy at all. My partner got over charges so I went to the bar and they apologised so they then charged him the right price and we have now to wait 3-5 days for the refund 3 day before Christmas. Thank you very much.

Lovely comfortable pub playing fantastic (80s) music and very friendly staff. Great evening out catching up with a dear friend, we will return. Thank you.

Not a bad pub. Went here for lunch. They do a good lunch deal. Inside there’s a nice atmosphere in the bar area and the restaurant. Outside there is seating and a car park for maybe 20 cars. The food was tasty but the portions quite small - looks at the pic of the fish and chips from the lunch deal. The fish looks more like a fish finger!

I like the food honestly but its bit expensive and service is bit sluggish. Ambience is good and staffs even better but just the service that doesn't work for me.

Tried the restaurant Citron for the first time, I didn't have high expectations but pleased to say I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. The changes are clear to see. Will be going back. One complaint, please put the Gluten free Peroni back in the bar.

Went for Sunday lunch today and had the carvery, which is amazing value for £11.95. Big portions and the roast beef was incredible. Nice atmosphere and good service. Will definitely be going back for another Sunday lunch

Just had an amazing experience at The Retreat and the food was amazing. We had sharers/ starters and it came in good time and tasted so good. I will say a special thank you to Alex and Jack that made the experience even better! They are a brilliant duo and had us in stitches, an absolute credit to the place! Thanks guys :)

👍 Very busy restaurant, would suggest to book in advance. As it’s so busy it can be very noisy. Food was lovely. My criticism would be that the prawn starter still had the digestive system was still in it & they were not the most easy thing to peel. The main course was goat, very nice but not a lot of...
