L.E.A.F Cambodia Mondulkiri Elephant & Wildlife Sanctuary advertises to be a non-profit organization protecting environment, animals and disadvantaged people in the region (Burong tripe). Only because of this I booked the tour with them, because I wanted to spend my money for such a project. We were so wrong to believe it’s a „conservation project“. It’s everything but that; I saw the elephants that we were told had been rescued being ridden and they had chains attached to them to drag timber. This and the other elements we experienced on this tour with LEAF make me convinced, this is a simple tourist attraction and all has been set-up by them to look like an aid-project when in reality L.E.A.F Cambodia Mondulkiri Elephant & Wildlife Sanctuary is a fake sanctuary and fake NGO-project. I’d never ever spend a dollar with them anymore. tricked (I won’t go further here with my/our frustration of how we feeling of being money pulled of our pockets) for a cheap “artificial” tourist attraction. Even though the elephant feeding was fun, but honestly, for this I cannot recommend to travel so far nor pay so much money; we get this in any zoo. Today I know, there are real elephant sanctuary projects in Mondulkiri, but for sure it’s not L.E.A.F Cambodia Mondulkiri Elephant & Wildlife Sanctuary! This review is based on my personal experience of a 2days tour with L.E.A.F. Cambodia Mondulkiri Elephant & Wildlife Sanctuary back mid Jan 2019.

When I went to do their tour they instead sold me a tour to the Mondulkiri Project. LEAF Cambodia no longer has any elephants and instead earns commission by on selling Mondulkiri Project tours. Please go directly to the Mondulkiri Project website and book your tours there so that all your tour money goes to an actual elephant sanctuary.

I had a great time in Mondulkiri. It was my highlight of the trip in Cambodia. Walking and swimming in the jungle with the elephants was amazing. It if def. life experience! After the elephant tour, I visited and stayed over night in Bunong village. My guide, Nara, was so much fun and kind. He and his family are happy people, the happiest family I've ever met. Everyone was very nice to me in the village too. The trekking with Nara was amazing. He is very attentive, and knows the jungle very well. I really want to fly back to Cambodia just to meet him and his people in the village. I feel very lucky that I had a change to meet them and learned a lot from them. I can't recommend it highly enough! Just go for it and meet the happy people in the village. :)

Amazing experience and ethical treatment of the animals! I am so glad we chose L.E.A.F project - the whole experience was a highlight of our Southeast Asia trip. No unethical treatment of the elephants - they just roam around freely, follow your sugarcane stick and overall are curious as long as you hold that cugarcane stick in your hands :)) We saw 3 elephants all together. The guide was extra knowledgeable and helpful. Nice walk through the fields, loads of information and loads of time with elephants. Just don't wear your light coloured clothes - red mud is extra hard to wash off. For those who say that elephant owners are "rude" with elephants - you can't talk in a playful "mummy" voice with any animal (dog trainers understand that!) and hope they'll pay attention. Nature follows Alpha leaders only. The little man has to sound harsh to appear strong, big, serious and restpectful. But no sticks or beating or threatening and no other abusive actions were carried out. Respect to the whole crew for a great job!

We did the one day tour to the Elephant sanctuary, which was a great experience. We read a lot about it in advance and found pretty diverse opinions. At the end of the day it was just the best decision going for it and making our own experience. Our guide was a very nice guy who taught us a lot about the jungle, the plants and the Bunong people on our hike to the little village (basecamp). We met all of the 5 elephants with their mahouts. The whole atmosphere was very calm and the mahouts never forced the elephants into doing anything they didn't want. After getting to meet the little group and feeding them some sugar cane, the elephants needed a break and our group got back to the village. There we were spoiled with delicious food made by Bunong people. Following the lunch we enjoyed a little Siesta in the shade before we went for a bath with the elephants at the river. It was a lot of fun as well. After they had enough, they trotted back to the shore. The mahouts and our guide were very attentive all the time and took good care of us and of course of the elephants. Finally we got to say goodbye by feeding them some bananas. It was a very special day and we understood the idea of this project and the way of slowly reintroducing them back to the wilderness much better. We can warmly recommend you this one day trip! Thanks very much for this experience and your very important work.

One of the best experiences of my life. I did the ethical elephant sanctuary day tour and I think it was a great experience. The tour includes hike through the local forest and meet the elephants in their natural habitat. Also meals, water, guide fees and transport is included. You can take pictures with the elephants and give them food. You cant ride the elephants, this is not allowed. If you want to make this tour, visit the website and contact them by email.

Scam! If you want to visit a real sanctuary where they care about elephants and use the money to support them, this is not a place to go.

I had an amazing volunteering experience at this elephant sanctuary in Mondulkiri in October (I actually spent my birthday there). I am very thankful that I found out about Mondulkiri Elephant &Wildlife Sanctuary because this was such a meaningful experience for me, especially getting up close with such gentle and heart-warming creatures. Another goal has been ticked off my list. My elephant volunteering with Mondulkiri Elephant & Wildlife Sanctuary is definitely one of the best adventures I have ever had. As I am writing this, I am starting to miss the experience, the people I lived with and the friendships I made through my volunteering journey. I will absolutely be back and hope to see the same team or even more team members and of course, the gentle giants.

Last weekend, we did the trekking day of Mondulkiri elephant and wildlife sanctury. It was great! Around 17km, 3 waterfalls and various landscapes to admire (fields, forests and mountains). Our guide was fabulous too, he showed us plants, catched us fruits, made us sticks, bamboo rings and bamboo flutes. His English was really good (he even spoke a little bit of French). The lunch was tasty and consistent. We actually could swim in one of the waterfall. I truly recommend it!

Not an elephant sanctuary, Not a wildlife sanctuary,. Not in partnership with EVP or Mondulkiri Project. Don't waste your time contacting them Book directly via EVP or Mondulkiri Project websites to spend time with elephants in Mondulkiri.

I am volunteering here right now. The staff there is pretty nice and friendly. They organise tours to see the elphants, feed them and go with them for a bath. All of the elephants enjoying happyly their retirement. You can as well go for a jungle hike. I stayed as a volunteer inside of the sanctury which is located in the middle of the jungle. There I sleept in a traditional bunong hut, which is the housing of a minority of this region, which is a pretty basic accomodation. I loved the sound of the nature during the hole stay and the feeling of peace and silence. Compared to other elephant projects they charged a reasonable price for my budget.

Really good day tour. Our guide (Handsome Man) was great fun at all the right times, and also full of historical and cultural information about the local indigenous people, and the area, and obviously also about all the work they do at the sanctuary.

I was unsatisfied. All items we did. But elephants came so late to bathing, guide said what mahut lost them, difficult to believe. We just lost 2.5 hours. Another items was nice.

Great experience! We did the one day trip to the sanctuary. We started with trekking in a wonderful place surrounded by nature. We almost had no rain. After that we met the elephants but not all at the same time and gave them some suger cane. We got a delicious khmer lunch. In the afternoon we washed two elephants in the river. It was a wonderful day but put on some long socks because there are leashes in the forest. You also have to bear your water (giver with the tour) and a suger cane.
