An iconic Buddhist stupa located in Thimphu, Bhutan. National Memorial Chhorten was built in 1974. The architecture is excellent. I got a wonderful opportunity to participate in the worship done by monks inside the Chhorten. A must visit place in Bhutan.

1000 Nu per head entry fee makes it not a worth visit. Nice ground with a stupa and people who comes to worship circles the stupa in clockwise direction. Tashi yoedling hotel nearby offers great view of this place. Take a room there rather than a visit inside.

This place holds deep religious significance to the local Bhutanese population. You will find many devotees circumbulating the stupa chanting mantras, with prayer wheels etc. As a tourist I found the entry fees a little too steep for this memorial. The inside temple holds mostly wrathful deities

We visited mid morning and there were already many locals either walking clockwise around the brilliant white building or sitting silently in a shady spot meditating. It was constructed in 1974 to honour the third king of Bhutan by the king’s mother. Well worth a visit when in Thimpu.

The Memorial Chorten in Thimphu was built in 1974 in memory of the third king of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, who is considered the "father of modern Bhutan" for his efforts in modernizing and developing the country. The chorten was built as a place for people to pay their respects and offer prayers to the late king and to promote peace, prosperity, and well-being for the nation and its people.

The National Memorial Chorten was built in memory of Third Druk Gyalpo and is dedicated to World Peace. The chorten is a large white structure crowned with a golden spire in the back drop of mountain range. It is located close to the center of Thimphu city and is one of its most iconic monuments. Visitors will find elderly Bhutanese people circumambulating the Chorten throughout the day. Chorten literally means ‘Seat of Faith’ and Buddhists often call such monuments, the ‘Mind of Buddha’. The Chorten is an extraordinary example of Buddhist architecture and artwork with its gorgeous paintings and intricate sculptures. Beautiful scenic beauty to catch in camera for unforgatable memory. Entry charge wasINR 100 per head in 2019 Dec.

WHITE, CLASSICAL & ELEGANT STUPA !  The Vase shaped chorten of almost 50 years in city centre.  Inside explore paintings, statues, shrines, carvings ETC… all so beautiful.  Study the exterior and interior carefully to get an insight of Buddhist philosophy.  Top floor gallery offers a spectacular city view.  There are in total 4 entrances, but just one is in use.

This 'Jangchub Chorten' is an unmissable landmark in Thimphu town. It's a point of interest where visitors get to observe spiritual practices of Bhutanese in Thimphu. It was built in 1974 in the memory of HM Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, the third monarch of Bhutan. During favorable seasons, the well-maintained lawn in its surroundings makes it look distinctively grand, especially on cameras. When there are some religious rituals, the temple inside opens for public. This beautiful heritage is centrally located in Thimphu and can be reached easily anywhere from the city.

The National Memorial Chorten was built in memory of Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the third king of Bhutan. Chorten generally stores human remains, but there are no of them here. People pray clockwise around Chorten. Visiting here, visitors can feel two things. One is the Bhutanese' respect for the king, and the other is a true religious belief.

Built in the memory of the third Druk Gyalpo King of Bhutan, the National Memorial Chorten is devoted to World Peace.
