Over the holidays Fat Man Reviews found its way to Lonnie's Best Taste of Chicago in Louisville, KY. Lonnie's serves Chicago-style food such as hot dogs, hamburgers, beef sandwiches and have been around since 2001. I decided to try a Clark Street Hot Dog or more commonly known as a Chicago dog. This is a pure beef dog served on a steamed poppy seed bun with yellow mustard, piccalilli relish, fresh chopped onions, tomato wedges, cucumbers, sport peppers, and celery salt. The dog has a great snap to the casing and was grilled to perfection. The bun was soft, and the veggies added a great texture and taste to the entire experience. The sport peppers added heat and the relish was bright green and sweet. I only wish I ordered extra relish as it was delicious. I also had Spicy Beef sandwich, extra wet. It came with sliced Italian beef in au jus garnished with a hot, spicy sauce along with hot peppers on a roll. The roll was soft and soaked in au jus, the hot peppers were crunchy and spicy, the sauce is a mustard type of sauce that is spicy with a hint of sweetness. The beef is juicy, tender and sliced thin. This is a wonderful sandwich and I wanted another one when I was finished. My fiancé tried a Congress Cheese Dog. This is a pure beef dog served on a poppy seed bun, smothered with hot melted cheese and celery salt. Again, the snap and grilling was great, the bun was soft, and the cheese was awesome. It reminded me of cheese whiz but better. Another great dog. She also tried a 3" Baby Beef sandwich, wet. It comes with Sliced Italian beef in au jus served on a 3-inch roll, and she added hot peppers (optional). Just like the sandwich before it was great, and the peppers are a must. I like mine extra wet, but normal wet is great too. Lonnie's Best Taste of Chicago is a small joint with very little seating. It is run by a wonderful husband and wife team that just make great food. They are open 6 days a week but will post on Facebook when they are closed. Lonnie's Best Taste of Chicago is Fat Man Approved and highly Recommended.

I went here with my girlfriend and had a great time. The staff was nice and funny, and the food tasted great. I wish I had ordered a little more but that was on me. I would recommend this place to friends.

My new favorite restaurant in Louisville! I grew up in the Chicagoland area and Lonnie's is the real deal. I had the Chicago Dog (I forget what they call it) and the 6" Italian Beef. Both were fantastic! They are changing their hours to stay open a little later during the week.

THE BEAT DOGS IN LOUISVILLE! The people running this place are super nice and love to see you enjoy their food. The food is authentic, and true to its cultures. The tiny little restaurant is producing tons of delicious food right in front of you! I will be visiting this place a lot more!

As someone from Chicago living in Kentucky, authentic Chicago food is very difficult to find. Lexington doesn't have a single place to get a good hot dog or beef. Lonnie's was well worth the drive to Louisville, as the food was as authentic as can be. The Italian Beef was excellent, and almost made me believe I was actually in Chicagoland. The Pizza Puff was on par with any restaurant back home, and it was so good I felt the need to order another to bring back to my mother. The restaurant is small and cozy, and the folks running the place were as kind as can be. I'll definitely be visiting Lonnie's again the next time I'm in the area, and would highly recommend it to anyone.

If you're in the mood for Chicago-style classics it's got to be Lonnie's Best Taste of Chicago in St Matthews! Lonnie and Diane have been serving up italian beef, polish sausage, Italian sausage, burgers, gyros, cheese fries, Chicago dogs, specialty sides and desserts since 2001. The food is delicious, the owners are great and the pride they have for Chi-Town and Louisville can't be beat.

Phenomenal nostalgic Chicago experience. Hot dog fully dressed and a chili cheese dog, too. Amazing food, mighty tasty. 😋Freshly prepared with authentic Chicago condiments. Wonderful owners, friendly and welcoming. I have an entire menu to conquer and one by one I will. You'll love it! 💜 Just go.

This is some real food right here. I ended up in here accidentally, but I decided to try something anyway. I can't eat bread so I got some chili cheese fries and a side of the beef from their sandwiches. It was very, very good. Perfect, honestly. I wouldn't be surprised if their broth has healing properties.

Very good chili cheese dogs made by Lonnie himself. Family run business and very friendly hotdog was tasty but of course, sloppy to eat as one would expect. I enjoy the crinkle fries and they do have soft drinks, but no sweet tea and no free refills. I thought the price was very reasonable for my lunch. I look forward to going back again with a few friends for lunch.

I had been looking for some place local that has a great Chicago dog. I happened to spot this place one day driving and not listening to my GPS. I told my wife and kids about it and we made it a point to stop in and see Lonnie. We were not disappointed. I am all about supporting small businesses, and Lonnie will be getting more of my business. If you love Chicago and supporting small businesses, stop in and check out one of Louisville's best kept secrets.

The service was fine other than the chef having a bit of an attitude when I asked if an order was mine and couldn't hear due to difficulty of hearing. It's a small place. Nice atmosphere for most part. Family member found hair in their food.

A favorite for many, many years. Still making the best dogs and seasoned beef anywhere. The Rush Street Chili dog is as nearly perfect as you will find. Steamed poppyseed buns barely holding in the chili, cheese, and onions, it's one I think you'll remember and tell your friends about. Parking can seem a problem, but there's room in back and just across the street. Wait times can be challenging at peak hours, but plan for it - it's worth it.

Italian beef was the texture of leather and the bun seemed stale and was hard to chew. I couldn't even eat it. The chili cheese fries were ok but only because I was hungry. The place was very dirty. I don't usually leave bad reviews but when the food is barely eddible, I feel the need to warn others.

I can’t even put into words how absolutely delicious these were. So much so that I finished them in the parking lot, went back in and got 2 more 😩 The owner Lonnie and his beautiful wife of 42 years were so warm and welcoming. I see why they have been in business for 23 years 👌🏾

Lonnie's is a great little gem in Louisville. Its no frills atmosphere is exactly what one would expect of a hot dog joint. Lonnie is always playing a great soundtrack of blues, Motown, or funk music while he's cooking. The food is delicious. Authentic Chicago dogs and Italian beef. I have heard from others that their hamburgers are good too. If you want some comfort food or hanker for a Chicago dog, Lonnie's is the place.

This is the second time that we’ve had bad experiences. The first time we waited for over an hour for three hotdogs and some fries. The hotdogs were good, but they weren’t great. I could honestly make better at home. The second time we ordered Philly steak sandwiches and they had absolutely no flavor. The meat had no seasoning and there were no onions, no peppers, no jalapeños, nothing to add flavor. I don’t understand the 4.7 rating.

Lonnie's is amazing. The test the flavor the texture it all just perfect. They are so nice and kind hearted. I work just down the street from them and I always stop every so often to get something to eat. I normally just pick something random off the menu as it's all good to eat.

Great food, fantastic atmosphere. They have some of the best Italian beef since I've been in Chicago. Cheese fries are great and so are the sausage.

Lonnie's dogs taste as good as our dogs look when leaving our salon. I had to ask the groomer if he even tasted that hot dog, he ate it so fast,in between moans of bliss. The onion rings were the best I've ever had and the burger was amazing. Thanks for the great dinner, neighbor! We will be back for more. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to try Lonnie's. I had been wanting to but never made it to the area when it was open. I ordered the Maxwell Street polish and fries. I was very pleased with my food. The polish was authentic to Chicago style and was very good, just like the ones I grew up eating in Chicago. It was definitely a taste of Chicago. I was rushing to work so I couldn't enjoy the Chicago themed atmosphere as much as I would have liked. The owner was very pleasant and I enjoyed talking with him. The one thing I remember the owner saying is how important it is as a restaurant to have consistency where everytime you go to a restaurant you get the same great taste and quality and it's not a hit or miss dining experience. That philosophy and the good food makes me look forward to going back and trying other items on the menu, especially the gyros.

Usually if I don’t like a restaurant I just don’t post, but this place was beyond HORRIBLE. I give it a ZERO. Our order was wrong. The dog was cold. The chili and cheese was cold and it was supposed to have onions on it. The Pizza Puff was soaked and greasy and the burger was certainly over cooked. You get NO REFILLS on beverages and she didn’t fill the cup up all the way and it was syrupy. Sooo disappointed!

Place is amazing and owners were welcoming and extremely friendly. Can’t wait to return and thanks for making me feel at home in sweet home Chicago!!

The one star is because I-really-wanted to try it. After waiting in like for about 20 min, when we got to the counter, they unfortunately just quit taking orders or something. Stood there, as it was finally our turn to order, but seemed to be ignored. By that time, my husband was ready to go, so we had to leave without getting to eat. Was so disappointing. There is a sign that says “no free refills”? Seems strange. Of course, as I said, I did not get to eat the food but from watching it be prepared and seeing the menu, doesn’t seem to be anything special. Just get a Costco dog and coke for like a $1

This was our first time to visit this business. It was not very clean and we had to wipe down our table. We ordered cheeseburgers and one order of cheese fries. The burgers were cooked on the spot and were ready within 10 minutes. They were a little bit overcooked and the buns were smashed. The fries are factory made, not fresh cut. The "cheese" over the fries is actually packaged cheese sauce. They did not look appetizing but tasted okay. Overpriced for what you get.
