Traditional French boucherie. We ordered the chicken with special sauce and rice and it was mediocre not that good. We ordered the qenuell and it was excellent. Restaurant has a nice atmosphere and service was good as well. Not very expensive and worth if a visit if your in the area.

Came with a group of 10 and had a great time. Lots of seating with a choice of separate rooms. We were all quite pleased with our dishes. Very friendly staff and cozy decor.

Comptoir Abel, the oldest bistro in Lyon. Very classic ambience. Wood panels and lots of pictures hanging on the wall. Tried their specialty dish Pike Quenelle. I found it to be bland. Next time I should try their chicken and rice dish. Looked tempting

Great food and nice cozy place. Ensure you come before operation hours to make a booking. Space is limited so important to make a booking ahead of time. Very nice authentic food.

Had an absolutely enjoyable and delightful time when I visited this bouchon for dinner. I ordered the Poulet aux morilles and it was hearty and delicious - perfect on a rainy day. Unfortunately I was dining alone and didn’t have space for starter and dessert - would definitely come in a big group next time as their portions are really generous. The service from the team was impeccable and attentive. Thank you Fred for the excellent service! Much appreciated 😊

Very first bouchon experience. We were brought here by a local couple introducing us to traditional Lyonnaise food. We tasted different dishes. Appetizers: the sausage with lentils and pate en croute. Both were tasty. For mains we had chicken with cream sauce and morels, tripe sausage and quenelle with a fish mousse and bechamel sauce. My take on this is that nothing really stands out (some dishes, like the quenelle are even bland), especially for modern taste buds. But it's an authentic experience and if you're here a week, why not try it. The service is really fast and friendly. The atmosphere is also really nice.

It's a very busy restaurant. Staffs were running around but they were all friendly. In terms of food. ... The appetizers started fine. I like the crayfish salad a lot. For main course we ordered the famous chicken and beef bourgignons. We couldn't even chew. The meat was very tough and dry. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be in France?? The dessert was ok. Overall we were quite disappointed.

Very good Lyonnaise in an apparently longest serving establishment of this kind (bouchon). My fave items were quenelle and the sausage with lentils where lentils were actually the star of the show. Foie gras and an artichoke is an interesting pairing but wasn’t anything special. Sweetbreads didn’t really taste much although the morel sauce was spot on. Super nice waitress who gave me their different kir’s to try and an explanation of how they make it :)

An absolutely remarkable meal. The classics were on parade with course after course of incredible Lyonnaise specialties. Our server and the manager were the conductors offing up stellar recommendations from wine to desserts. Everything was wonderful from start to finish. The history of the building makes perfect sense if the food and service have been that good since the beginning. You MUST have the foie gras with toast, the Pike Gratin, and the morel sauce. Easily our best meal in Europe, this trip and to date. Not to mention a breeze to order with their whole team capable English speakers and very welcoming.

I researched online and found this 95-year institution serving traditional Lyonnaise food. Boy was I thrilled to dine here! From the opening salad to the chicken and rice (It sounds so simple but is absolutely fulfilling), to the finishing local dessert and the excellent wine recommendation, everything was perfect! This includes wallet-friendly prices too. I could have given them 10 stars if Google allowed me. I’ll be back again 😍😍

Since we decided to come to Lyon I'd been reading about bouchon restaurants and really wanted to try one. We settled on Comptoir Abel, booked online and visited the same day, and we weren't disappointed. The interior is beautifully traditional with beamed ceilings, carpet wallpaper and the likes. Our food and service was just as good. We both had the foie gras and toast starter, which was patë rather than a slab of fried liver. It was delicious though, like mildly meaty butter. Again, since reading about quennels I really wanted to try one and was glad I did. I was expecting a heavy, stodgy lump of potato flecked with fish meat; instead I got a light, delicate dish more like a soufflé in texture. With a nice bottle of local red wine and a dessert each the bill came to around £115 which isn't cheap, but it was worth it to try a local institution.

Visited Lyon for 4D3N and this restaurant was undoubtedly our favourite. We ordered the Quenelle and Poulet aux morilles. The chicken was a tad dry but the mushroom sauce was sensational. The rice and complimentary bread became sauce vehicles, saving us from having to lick the plate clean. It is a shame we ran out of stomach space for dessert. We will definitely be back when we visit Lyon again.

Our hotel recommended Café Comptoir Abel as a classical bouchon of the region. The ladies had a lovely salad Lyonnaise, although my wife thought the eggs should have been more soft boiled. They were somewhere short of hard boiled. I had a salad of haricot verts (green beans), petite pois (small peas) and a slice of fois gras, sorry no pix. Mains: classic quenelle of pike, steak with morel sauce and chicken with morel sauce, all delicious. I thought the chicken breast could have cooked a bit less and be slightly moister but the morel sauce made it ok. Ancient tables and decor, friendly staff. Nice wine list with less expensive house wines by the milliliter. Dessert: ok chocolate fondant and praline tart.

Authentic Bouchon Lyonnaise Restaurant. I’m very happy that I made it to this restaurant before leaving Lyon for the last supper. Even the baguette they provide with the food was really great. Wondering their other dishes too! Next time!

Discovered another great “bouchon” in the heart of old Lyon. The photos are of the Salade Lyonnaise, the Salade d’écrevisses, and Quenelle de brochet en gratin with a mushroom béchamel (in lieu of a sauce Nantua). Satisfying evening.

My first bouchon experience! This restaurant has a wonderful service. I wouldn't say they're the best bouchon because there's so many options in Lyon. But I love their sausage and praline tart. Baba au rum was soaked in rum but lacked texture. Tasted a little stale?

Lovely stop for a traditional Bouchard experience, fun waiter, good wine recommendations, and super nice experience. Beef fillet with morel sauce - really tasty. Chicken with supreme sauce - lovely chicken on the bone with a tasty sauce and roast vegetables. Wine was super smooth and not dry at all for those that like sweet/bold/deep.

Made online reservation for 12:00pm, arrived a few minutes early but they opened their doors past 12:00 pm. We were met at the door by the host (manager) who didn't even say hello before checking our reservation. After we were at our table the serving staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was ok. After we paid our bill, and as we were leaving we walked passed the same unfriendly host (manager) and again he didn't say anything. No goodbye or see you again. We felt very unwelcome at this restaurant. I chose this restaurant since it seemed to be one of the oldest and traditional bouchons in Lyon. Our experience would have been much more enjoyable if the host(manager) would have been more friendly to the customers.

Suggestion: 1) Please make a reservation. Their website is very convenient. 2) Highly recommend the artichoke with green bean (photo 3). I personally felt the salad wasn't as great. 3) Chicken supreme seems commonly ordered, however felt like carbonara chicken. 4) Had the beef with moril sauce. Highly recommended. 5) Service here is great.

Great french cuisine and great staff. Veal liver sauce was sublime and it went very well with rice. Tartine was also really good. Definitely recommended

So good! Sometimes it's difficult to find vegetable forward dishes while traveling and this place has so many savory, delicious options (green beans, mushrooms, yellow & orange carrots, lettuce salad, potatoes, cornichons & the morel sauce (if you can count that as a vegetable, but still incredible, obviously) + the standard meat/fish dishes, so the opportunities are endless and the food has been incredible- don't sleep on the wine choices either, very complimentary to the food.

Such an authentic find. The Americans come at 7:30. The French after 8pm. Looks like you have stepped out of time. It’s not elegant. But so completely cozy Lyonnaise.

Good but why the hype? The oldest restaurant in Lyon. Much lauded but it seemed a little flat. The menu and wine list seemed built to extract as much cash as possible from the unsuspecting tourist. The room we were in was lavish but hushed quiet unlike a bouchon. The food was fine.

Excellent food and service...sausage on lentils with drizzle of mustard, quenelle with mushroom sauce, and Saint Marcellin cheese.
