“The Weight of Oneself” sculpture is one of the most beautiful sculptures I have ever seen, it looks simply perfect. I think that being just next to the river makes it much more wonderful since the picture of the river grants it somehow a touch of greatness.

Designed by artists Elmgreen & Dragset, the work represents heroic nude and marble. This sculpture, 2.7 m high, is a landmark in the landscape. This representation of a standing man carrying another man, inanimate, in his arms, as if saved from drowning, is disturbing. The faces of the two characters turn out to be identical. The man wears his double, thus becoming his own savior but also his own burden!

The Weight of Oneself is a very nice and meaningful sculpture emerging from the river right in front of the Appeals Court of Lyon. This is one of those things you "accidentally" find while wandering around the city and then you find yourself contemplating it for a few minutes. I recommend crossing the pedestrian bridge that's right beside the sculpture, it has amazing views of the court, the sculpture and the river.
