This a unique experience and a must do in Maastricht. These caves are built to extract limestone in old ages. The tunnels extend for a vast area in the hill. The guide was very informative about the history about the place. We booked the English language tour. There were 16 people for the tour. Tour takes just over an hour and was very interesting. Ticket was 9.50 per person and was well worth it.

Very amazing experience. Loved the history behind the caves. I was super impressed to know the complexity behind the formation of caves. I will highly recommend to visit this place if you are around.

Next to the caves there is a small cafe/restaurant with great views and accessible either by car (parking next to the cafe) or on foot following the path from saint Pieter fortress. Cool idea for families and long walk for dogs.

Amazing place to visit. Best to bring a jacket as the temperature inside the cave is 12 degree C. Buy tickets in advance. The view from the starting point is amazing.

A very interesting place but not a well led tour. Her voice was not always clear. She was very knowledgeable of the tunnel but then said childish things too. It needs to be longer to give people a chance to ask questions. In the end we were racing to get to the exit. Also you should have a health warning to bring a light jack in summer as we were freezing in parts due to the drop in temperature

We didnโ€™t expect at all the beauty of this place and the surrounding area. The coffee place at the top has an amazing view overlooking the Maas river and the underground tour was amazing. Our guide was very attentive, knowledgeable and funny and really kind to our kids. Definitely a kids friendly place with a lot of history and unique atmosphere!

Very interesting place to visit. Good guides that give a lot of information about the limestone exploitation and history of the galleries. They are not actual caves. More like mines.

Pretty impressive. The marking on the wall closest to the roof were from the miners dating back to around 1560. It was stated that the black spots on the roof were from the oil lights back in the 1500s. Will recommend the trip to other people!

A nice adventure .. when you take the cruise trip from the centrum the ticket can include the cave tour as well which is about 1 hour .. nice guides .. a piece of history .. be prepared for a short upward trek (around 5-10 mins) to get to the starting point. The series of tunnels/caves are really big and have a high ceiling so not claustrophobic and won't get you dusty. Air quality is also decent inside.

Really interesting. I had no idea these saltmine caves were there. It was well worth a visit and well worth the money. George was a very good guide, very clear explanation.

Interesting, uncommercial, guide fantastic. Worth the walk tours go at set times but pleasant walk around fort and great cafe nearby.

An interesting educational tour of the area, but quite a lot of walking is required!

Having visited the North Caves last year, we completed the set with a tour of the Zonneberg Caves on this visit. Whilst I wouldn't recommend seeing both in a single visit, I heartily recommend both at different times. The knowledge of the guides (they have to pass exams before being allowed to lead groups) makes the visit.

It is the most interesting attraction in Maastricht. Interesting historical facts, impressive underground world. The best part of the tour, however, was Ed, the guide. His punchlines were like a good stand up comedy. Enjoyed every second he talked (and every second inside the "caves" for sake of the caves themselves).

We took a guided tour with a kick scooter. I was glad thar we finished this adventure without a serious accident ... For extreme fun, yes , was a great adventure, but for a safety - NOT ! no helmets !!! if you miss a corner - lots of them , then .... Stories of our guide were exciting, just after searching for more info on some of them I found that they were incorrect or exaggerated....but ok , to keep it existing it's a trick of some guides ... Well... Still nice to take a tour with a scooter to see more than when you can see if you take a walking tour, but please take a helmet and a fluro jacket with !!!

Really cool to see, we had an excellent tour guide! Happy to have done it by bike as we got to see a lot and it was a fun activity to do. It was rather chilly when exiting the tunnels so mind taking a sweater. Definitely check it out if you're in the area.

I visited sone years ago and it was great to come back. The tour is interesting! Bring a coat and a flashlight! I recommend combining the visit in the cave with a boat trip from Maastricht.

The tour was really an experience. When the guide switched off all lights when we were in there to show how dark it could get in there - was stunning! Also - the height of the caves and how cold it can get inside - is something you have to see to believe! Must visit!

Best guide ever! And the "caves" are like walking inside a pyramid.

When I visited the caves, and I I saw the galleries, it's hard to believe that everything was made by human hand, fantastic galleries with even more fantastic paintings.

There is some wonderful history to explore in this area. The cave tour was great, and they offer it in a few languages. Tour guide Ruud (English speaking tour) was very informative and open to questions. I would highly recommend this very economical tour if you are in the area.

Picturesque place nevertheless it is industrial zone and access is limited at least if you follow the laws. Amazing colour water as well as you can see how exactly man made actions changes landscapes.

If you are in Maastricht, why not go and see some historical places. Is not great but is really nice, the staff is quite friendly and is amazing to see how the caves came to be what they are today.
