The place is situated in the city center ofcourse and it is very close to main market. There were 300+ stairs and the view at the top was breathtaking. Would definitely recommend to go there solo as well as in groups.

Probably, one of the most beautiful places in Liege. However, it is very high, so be aware, you'll be tired in the end:)

The stairs are one of the locations you have to visit in Liege not only for the physical activity of climbing them but also for the amazing reward you will get after reaching the top. After climbing , an outstanding view of the whole city opens and you can spend 10 minutes or more just admiring the beautiful city. A quick tip is to begin your journey with these stairs because after them , you will feel a little tired :) .

A nice workout walking up the stairs. Be sure to take breaks, turn around, and admire the view that gets better with each step. There are really neat doors to check out on the walk up. There’s a railing the entire length of the steps. The view from the top is good, but there are two even better viewpoints up by the WWI Memorial. Just take a right at the top of the steps and it’s only a couple extra minutes. We’ll worth it for the views of Liège.

Take some time to climb the 374 steps of these stairs going a monument and the Citadel on top. When it's warm in summer that can be a challenge but once on top you get a nice view over the city and the river below The stairs were made between 1875 and 1880 to remember the 600 men from the small town of Franchimont who died during a surprise attack on the armies of Duke Charles the Bold and King Louis XI during the siege of Liège in 1468.

If you are fit then take these stairs around 374 to reach on top to see the view, there is just one bench on the top to rest. It’s good if you can reach on top then this js the good test go check your fitness :)

One of the longest stairs I have ever seen, it was a struggle getting up and down. Wouldn’t recommend walking on these stairs if you have trouble walking.

Quite a steep hike up the stairs but a stunning view of the city from up top. Highly recommend the walk up for every city visitor!

A very beautiful place, wonderful nature and a stunning view overlooking the city of Liege beautifully. There is a place for jogging and practicing some sports, where the number of stairs is 375, a bit tiring, but very interesting and beautiful, worth a visit and enjoying the view of the city of Liege from the top.

Worth the climb for the magnificent view over Liège.

374 steps of awesome views and cool vibes. A must-visit for a unique experience in the heart of the city.

A lot of exercise but getting to the top is worthy because the view is amazing!!!

It is impressive, it is worth admitting. While I was walking, I grumbled, saying "why do they have such a big staircase, it's not practical." But when I reached the top, I understood the answer to this question :)If you go further, you will reach a large park and the citadel. There is also a beautiful view of the city. There is no one here on weekend evenings, I don't know why. There are also residential buildings above and below, and people live here. Often there are requests to "be quieter" hanging on the windows, because there are small children there. In general, I advise you to visit, it made a pleasant impression on me

A cool stop for 15 minutes of exercise after driving in the car for two hours. I suppose we could have done it twice (or thrice) but I was in street clothes and the sweat was starting to arrive after one walk up under the blasting sun.

Would recommend doing this unique 374 step ascent. The view is a good reward on reaching the top. Took 5-6 minutes at a steady pace, would take some water if its a sunny day as it gets pretty warm.

What else is there to say other then: visit these stairs. Your condition and heart rate will be thankful of the exercise, you will be ashamed of your lack of training. It really is a beautiful set of stairs, never thought I’d say those words but I can’t deny it. The view over Liège is nice, but I do think the steps are worth the visit in their own right.

Well it’s a lot of steps. 374 I believe. Yes you do have to be fit enough to climb them. It’s hard work. But you can stop plenty of times and admire the view which gets better the higher up you get. Yes there is only a view at the top. If you carry on further up some more steps you get up to a memorial and even better views.

It takes 374 steps to get to the top but then you have a nice view of the city. You do need to be quite fit however the handrail is quite sturdy and you can of course take breaks

This may seem donating but it is not that bad if you walk daily. If you do not exercise or walk much this could be hard but not impossible. Great view at the top and perfect way to burn off the waffles. Lol

This was amazing. Fun to go up and down the stairs and to see the history along the way.

Probably one of the must do's of Liège. The views from the top are pretty and worth the climb. However, be mindful of the people that live there. Enjoy the experience and the city, but be also respectful with the people that lives there and that uses them as their daily path to go back home, to go to work...

Fun location, a must see. But jou need a good condition to go up in one time. I had to stop in the middle. Nice

Beautiful view to the city, absolutely must do when in Liege. Also climb to the monument that is a bit further after the stairs.

Beautiful place to see and quite challenging but doable. We did it with my 1,5 yo nephew :) took us a bit more time. At the top keep going higher to the second stairs and then right a bit down the road. There is a beautiful view platform. Accessible for strollers and bikes through small street on the side. Just don't expect it to be smooth. The roads are made of pebble stones. Its nice to go up by the stairs and then decent by the lovely streets. The only downside for me is that there is always something under construction .

Worthwhile visiting! We were there on sunday and there weren't a lot of tourists. Once you reach the top there is a lovely parc and you can descend in a small forest.

A place worth visiting when you are visiting Liege. The view from the top is worth all the efforts. You can see a major chunk of the city and the river from here. Also a nice exercise for your body, overall a must visit place.

Yea the stairs are nice, but I didn't liked the city. You better park in Opera Parking in the centrum. It's €6 for 3 hours.

Many, many, many steps lead to fantastic views. You will see a bench at the top where you can enjoy the panoramic view of the entire city. If you continue to the right you can get even a slightly more improved version. Totally worth. And honestly, much easier than I expected. We didn’t even need to stop for breaks. And yes, many, many, many tourists even after dark. And it’s totally free!

Fun and unusual place!! I'm reading mixed messages of the city here. Yea it's not really a beautiful city at the moment, while it has so much potential. The infrastructure s*cks, the surrounding facilities and lack thereof show carelessness, and I hope the municipality gov will acknowledge the potential and go on a beautifying streak of all districts, not just the absolute centre! Set an example for Wallonia. This can be done without too high costs. I think they're starting it at some places, just not enough to uplift the sense of faltering development, a heart without purpose. The problem is the foundation and vision of the city, its relationship with traffic and concrete over nature and locals, and that has to be tackled, which is talk for another day... The stairs structure however is really cool. Every city with hills should consider having similar ones, it's a place of fun, happiness, chitchat and reflection. Clearly there's something magical about stairs going down and up to such an extent, you don't even have to believe in heaven. Everyone had smiles on their faces.

Spectacular! Mind-blowing. It's definitely worth a visit when you happen to be In Liege. Be ready for a climb though.

Steps aren't too bad and the view at the top is nice! Just make sure to take water with you. Nothing outstanding or special but a good thing to do in the city

You should have a good physical condition to go upstairs, which is indeed a very challencing activity. However, it is a kind of a "once in a life time" activity, so I recommend you to give it a try. By the way, make sure that you have some water with you, since there isn't any cafe or market at the top.

One of the highlights of Liege - the stairways to hell oh no to the Citacelle. It is a nice walk up the stairs with a nice view across Liege. But please don't expect too much - the city itself is not the nicest on earth. But if you come back down the stairs you can enjoy a great belgian beer at the BrasserieC - that's worth the walk up and down :-)

Get ready for some good cardio exercise. Stairs climbing is fun. From the top, view is even better. Drink water, take rest and keep climbing.

One of the most exciting places of Liège. If you trust your legs you can climb up (374 stairs 🥴) or you can just drive there and enjoy the scene from the top🙃

  • 4/5 Sapfo S. 1 year ago on Google
Apparently there's more to climb than what you initially think 😂 we only got halfway through, then when we had already left, saw on Google there's more to go. The sunset is really pretty from up there! There are people living there and it's very quiet, which I appreciated.
