Amazing representation of a great people and the sad story that surrounded them. Good lessons to be learnt on how our national past was brutal and savage at times.

Highly recommend visiting this historical site. It is beautiful and our guide Kevin did such an incredible job with our bunch of young kiddos aged 7 and under. We had so much fun!!

The park ranger at the front informed us about why we have to pay the fee for entry. I do believe it is worth it. Even though we did not tour the buildings on the outside of the visitor center (due to rain)inside offered a wealth of information. Beautiful displays as well as a ton of actual incredible relics, artifacts, and information. A very underappreciated historical site for sure. I do wish they had had access to the river so you could see the fairy that used to be in this area, but an excellent visitor center.

Had a great visit to this historic Cherokee site. Good small museum and film. The buildings were really interesting. The park ranger was great and answered all our questions, very knowledgeable and helpful.

New Echota located in Calhoun, Georgia is a very interesting and important historic site to visit. It was the capital of the Cherokee Nation in the SE U.S. from 1825 until their forced removal and was where the tragic “Trail of Tears” officially began. In 1830 President Andrew Jackson signs the Indian Removal Act, authorizing the Army to force Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole tribes, including some of his former allies in the War of 1812, out of Georgia and surrounding states. The word Echota means "rising from the ashes.” Grateful for the opportunity to visit, hike around and learn a bit more about New Echota and the significance, importance of this historic site. Worth a visit if you’re in the area. 💔

Very well kept historical site. Staff was very informative and helpful. We were headed to another state park, when we passed by then turned around with the idea that we would stay for 15 to 20 minutes if we did not find interesting. Well we stayed for 3+ hours... we totally enjoyed the site, information, learning more about the Cherokee people, walking in nature and again the staff were 5 stars...

Great place to spend a fall weekend catching up on history. Watch the movie first to get a better understanding before going on the tour.

So much better than we ever expected! Watch the 15 minute film first to get background information. Lots of information and artifacts in the small museum. Had an extremely knowledgeable tour guide (David) who explained the Cherokee nation way of life, how this town evolved over time, and what changed, all the way through the lots of lands being auctioned off. Saw a printing press in use, looked down a well, walked through the houses, it was very immersive. Also, lots of blue bird houses and beautiful grounds!

As a former middle school teacher, I can say with authority that Cole’s guided tour of the historic site was the most educational and entertaining I’ve ever experienced on a field trip. Highly recommend!
