It is based just by the corner of Soho Square Garden. The location is prime as it is close to many attraction and shops. The size is decent for friends and family gathering. The environment is very compared to other restaurants. The decoration is unique. Cleanliness at high standard. There comfortable sitting arrangement both indoor and outdoor. The customer service is very friendly. Ordering were easy and time to serve food was almost instantly. Food quality and serving standard were unique and appealing. I had Govindas and veggie thali, both were good. The best out of all was the sweet and samosa. Enjoy 😊

Yummy vegetarian food in the middle of London in the limits of your pocket. We have been to Govindas three to four times in last couple of years and every time it is a delicious tummy full experience. Seating space may be a crunch however the whole staff have their high standards of smiles and service. The sweet dishes and burgers are delicious too along with the Indian style set menu. Thanks for good food and options of fresh snacks and vegan pies which you cannot get elsewhere.

Great divine atmosphere and vegetarian delights of starter, main course or dessert. Eat to your content and don't worry about the costs. A meal costs between 9 and 15 pounds and you can top up with lassis, sweets and other indian besties

I had a 5star experience today, I did remember to coming here many years ago, so I thought give it a try again. Had a berry lassi, a veggie lasagna and a mango cheesecake. All of them are good choice the lassi was creamy refreshing, the lasagna just like my mother would make it, the mango cheesecake 🥭 🧀 fruity and not too heavy, service was great fast and professional loved that.

Very busy but they very kindly found a table for our family of 4, friendly and helpful staff and fantastic food. Finding a reasonably priced gem like this just off of Oxford St is a massive result! Will definitely be going back.

Delicious food. Customer friendly staff and the restaurant is easy to find. The food is satisfying and good variety of options. We had the Govinda Thali and enjoyed every bit of it. You don’t get a refill but you don’t need one. (9-10 items and a sweet dish) mango lassi was delicious. Busy at lunch time. You have to walk through collect your food and then pay.

Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant in London. The service is unmatched. The staff truly cares about your experience especially Thomas . The food is absolutely amazing – everything we tasted melted in our mouths. Absolutely the best meal we had while in London. Highly recommend!

This restaurant is fav place for dinner outings with friends and families . we have been coming here for various occasions , & celebrations as well. You wont get settled for this place with just one visit because they will ensure that you fall in love with their quality of food and service . Ensure that you always visit a bit early to the place if your planning for a dinner as the place is a bit occupied in the evening , enjoying their meals . We had ordered spring rolls , pappadam , paneer chilly dry , and Thali and Mango Lassi. It is very cost friendly considering the location. All the food dishes were too good and tasty. Washrooms and hand wash sinks are very hygienic and clean. They have extremely good desserts as well. Over all a good experience .

I am so much excited and eagerly wanted to visit this place after seen some video and ads on social media. Glad to know that in central London we get pure vegetarian options. I visited for dinner around 8 pm and choose the govindas special thali but get disappointed with food quality as chapati was super cold and difficult to eat like made of maida. Papad was soggy and burnt oily. Sabji ( curry ) was also cold and portions so Limited. Extremely disappointed with FAKE STUDENT DISCOUNTS OFFERS as my first visit they offer me and cashier was nice who informed us but this visit cashier told me my manager inform that student discounts not applicable then why they posted everywhere? So far felt bad and confused why I chose twice

Great place for excellent 👏 vegetarian food. Huge portions and great value. The vegetable pie is delicious and they have a big selection of mains and luscious cakes. . I always have a lassi and on my last visit I had a Berry lassi which was delicious... The location is next to Tottenham Court Road tube station and opposite Primark.

Such a great oasis just off Oxford Street. The entire menu is vegan and vegetarian made up of really tasty and healthy dishes. If you’re not in the mood for Indian cuisine, there are other items available such as veggie lasagne and veggie burger. Great food for everyone at great prices with friendly service.

Whenever I am in London I come here for lunch. A peaceful atmosphere (conducive to good digestion!) and delicious food modestly priced. It is often busy but the staff move quietly and efficiently providing excellent service.

+ Delicious vegetarian/vegan food; - limited seating; slow service; a little pricey Govinda’s Pure Vegetarian Restaurant is a good place to come for a quick bite and sit down meal. The food is flavourful and portions are okay. The restaurant is a little small and quickly becomes overcrowded during busy times, when you can expect to queue for up to 15+ minutes. I found the staff friendly and helpful. On a few occasions I’ve noticed male customers from the (connected?) Temple next door being unnecessarily curt and condescending to female members of staff for reasons that remained unapparent. It would be nice if the restaurant adopted a no tolerance approach to this behaviour.

The place paradise for vegetarian. It is like full of challenges. The pace is heavily crowded. It will be a long que to get your order. After this challenge of getting place sit and have food. The food is awesome no question about that. The thali section is good but not liked because only the the biggest thali you will get roti else only pav / bun you will get. The roti is also not smooth. The thali is full of veggies but no roti and very little of rice. Taste wise no problem but the items in dish are not in proper way at least for me. We finished our meal by eating currys only. If your are planning to visit, get ready for long que, but the food will be great.

Amazing little vegetarian place to eat in central. Perfect place to grab a small bite or a good lunch or dinner. The prices as extremely cheap compared to the surrounding area and the portions are good size. I went at a fairly good time and didn’t have to wait long. However I expect it to get quite busy later in the day. The choice of food and juice are ver good. I would highly recommend to anyone nearby to visit.

I normally go there often for buffet, and its good. But I had a too good to go takeaway, and the takeaway box was the saddest food Ive seen in a while (see pic). The box was barely filled, and it was mostly covered by simple salad. Quite dissapointed. I hope this is a one off thing, but I know I wont be going back.

It’s heartening to see some things remain the same in Soho, Govinda’s Restaurant; one of London’s first vegetarian restaurants, next to, and affiliated with the Hare Krishna temple, opened in 1979. They still serve a mean thali off Soho square at prices that also seem to have been stuck in time. ‘Nutrition for the soul’ they say, “ethically-sourced and karma-free, it’s also offered to Lord Govinda before it reaches your plate.” It was indeed heavenly and a feast was had.

I’m a regular at Govinda’s as my gym is close by. It’s the best value vegetarian vegan South Asian restaurant in London. Meal deals from £6.95. Unique drinks like rose 🌹 milk 🥛 and mint lemonade are lovely. There are tasty cakes including vegan ones. They have loyalty cards where you get a free meal with 7 stamps. I’ve filled quite a few cards over the years. The staff are polite and friendly. The Hare Krishna Centre is next door. I’ve always been able to get a seat and there are tables outside.

This is a vegetarian only restaurant, but considering the majority of India don't actually eat meat I'd say this is a great place to try some real authentic Indian food at a pretty good price. For £10 you can get an unlimited tali, which comes with two mains, Dahl and bean curry, popadoms, a bread roll and rice. Portion size is more than enough, and though I've never had to ask, I think you are also entitled to free top ups (hence why they call it "Unlimited"). Pretty good value for money. It's just off the main road (Oxford Street) and can be quite easy to miss, in and around the hustle and bussle of Oxford Street.

I have been to this place few times and the food quality was really good before but now the food quality is so miserably bad. They have charged £16.90 for such a food where the food was burnt and the vegetables were off(potatoes were off). The curries were oily and watery as if there have just put too much of oil and tomatoes which made the curry taste so sour. I hope they see the reviews and change the quality of the food. As this is a holy place I thought people who cook the food will be making the food with love in the name of god but they are just into business.

Very nice and friendly staff. The food was very tasty. I really liked the paneer. The bowl itself is very small and the amount of Paneer they put on the bawl was 1/3 of the bowl capacity. At least they should fill the bowls properly. I have attached some pictures for the owner reference. Apart from that very nice people and I recommend this place.

Definitely the most delicious cafe in London. The taste of main dishes and desserts will make you come back again and again. The only downside is the small portions. The cafe was quite crowded, but atmospheric. Thank you 🙏✨

Friendly and attentive service with a family-feel environment. Great for a quick stop or a longer meal, the food here is excellent. The creamy paneer is particularly good. Good portions at great prices. The masala chai here is probably the best I've had in London.

I've been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years now, I like the atmosphere, and the catering for vegans and veggies alike, it's good value for money, and won't hesitate to recommend it to an audience looking for no-frill truly Indian experience. Be it street food, full meals, desserts, drinks, etc., it's all made with passion and home flavours. I also tend to go to the top floor to get some non-food items too (incense, etc.). All guest I've taken have been satisfied and say would repeat too.

Delicious food, that is authentic Indian and not masquerading as Indian food like the many other restaurants outside the country. It's all veg (and egg-free) and they have vegan options too. What's more, the prices are so reasonable for the quantity they offer.

I love this restaurant . Was greeted by a charming and polite host who explained how everything was done there . Showed me amazing array of vegetarian and vegan dishes as well as variety of juices and fizzy drinks . The dishes were served in cute metal utensils and the tastes and flavours were out of this world ! I so wanted to lick them at the end . But I resisted . The staff actually talk to the guests and I felt so comfortable being by my self and really enjoyed the experience . When I was in the street my server waved me good bye through the glass windows . So charming . I will definitely go there for both the food and the people who work there .

I visited the ISKCON Temple at Oxford Street in London on the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami in August 2021! This was my 2nd visit to the iconic temple. I really felt blessed and felt like I'm in India. I enjoyed the Prasad as well as the delicious India meals at the Govinda's Restaurant just adjoining the temple. The food was extremely tasty. Jai Shri Krishna 🙏🏻

Fair prices and ok portions but the curries today were actually uneatable. The bean pot tasted - and I’m not kidding - as if it was contaminated with melted plastic/petrol. Not sure why it was even being served :(

Really tasty vegan food. Got the veggie thali for £6.95. A good amount of food, doesn’t stuff you but you aren’t hungry either, a perfect amount. I loved each part apart from the salad and it’s dressing. The broccoli and veggies were so flavourful, the daal was delicious. The bread roll was surprisingly good too. I love Indian food but hardly go out to eat it, since the spice can be overwhelming. This wasn’t spicy at all, but soooo FLAVOURFUL. I’m happy I tried the food out, the quiet canteen like seating area just felt a little awkward. It was busy though, so that’s always a good sign of good food :) there are also hand washing facilities downstairs by the toilet. Nice and polite staff.

Pure vegetarian food with incredible thali deals. Even the local office workers flock in during the week and very busy during lunchtime and even weekends. They were closed during COVID19 but now back to normal. I didn't particularly like the juices because they were too sweet for my taste especially the mango juice. Buy lassis are great and so is the buttermilk (savoury). I love the puris and chapatis with veggies and paneer dishes. Very clean, even the toilets!

I honestly couldn't be more delighted that we visited this place. It's one of the highest rated restaurants in the area and with good reason. The food is honest, clean, home style food that nourishes and leaves you feeling good long after you leave. The restaurant is more a cafe style with trays that you fill with a range of delights. There are vegan options which worked perfectly for me. I'll likely visit whenever I'm in this neighborhood. Absolutely fantastic!

Great gem of a find. If you are looking for vegan option, look no further. They have a lot of choices. Really tasty, authentic and you could get extra items. We opted for the Vegetarian thali which had 5 items and added Punjabi samosa. We got pulao, dal, mixed veg, papadum or bread roll, salad as part of the thali. We then got yummy warm gulab jamuns and Masala Chai to top it off. Overall high value for money, good quality and tucked next to the Oxford Street and Soho square.

This might be the best place I've been in London after 5 years. All the food is natural and never had the things they offer this tasty. The vegetable curry and the beans had some spices that blew my mind. *The salad has sprout pulses!* And on top of everything it was incredibly cheap, I'll be coming very often here. The vibe and the people in this place is different. Everyone is really friendly and really cares about you.

I was a bit confused by the menu but it was explained. Nice food, though a bit loud inside!

Fabulous, inexpensive Indian food in a cafe like atmosphere just off Oxford Street. Lovely service and pleasant ambience. Xx

They have both buffet and a la carte menu! Really good vegetarian food options. Delicious food and very reasonably priced. It's a treat for any vegetarian to go there and enjoy the food. They have amazing dessert options as well. It's a good place for a family meal.

Simple vegetarian selection tali but it adds up with the extras.

The younger member of staff is terrible. You can tell she hates what she is doing. I simply ordered the veggie one and a delicious mint lemonade. It would have been a great experience if the person who takes your order/payment didn't look miserable. Thank you

The place is small but the space is managed really well. The food is really good and priced well. Will definitely come again.

Simple but tasty vegetarian (vegan available) food in a setting that veers towards utilitarian. Very conveniently located just off Oxford Street. Staff are very friendly. I liked the metal cups with the drinking water station to help reduce plastic. We had the thali - very good, and super filling, reasonably priced - the mango lassi (also good, unfortunately in plastic cup), and the gulab juman (it was ok but not my favourite). Toilets are downstairs and would not be wheelchair accessible but I think wheelchairs should be able to access the main Street level floor.

Simple yet amazing food. Great for vegans/vegetarians. Absolutely yum!

Really liked the food. Quantity was sufficient. Ordered veg Thali came with 2 curry and rice. You have to order chapati separately though.

Pre-cooked food was okay not great for the price. The quality has deteriorated post pandemic.

Well what more can I say - excellent healthy vegetarian food affordable to all and a lovely peaceful atmosphere. I have been coming here from time to time since the 1970s and it's nice to find a restaurant where you know what you're getting - there's a lively temple upstairs with music & dancing throughout the day with regular talks about the Hare Krishna movement. All in all, a great & unusual place to visit.

For me, it is the best place in London to get authentic Indian vegetarian food. It is part of the ISKCON temple, hence eating here is divine and highly cost effective.

  • 3/5 Amit B. 2 years ago on Google
Food actually is Very nice and reasonably priced. Staff in their effort to provide warm food microwaved Indian bread which made it uneatable. Normally microwaving bread is not good idea .

Given the popularity of the place, the menu items were a bit limited but no complaints. The food is really simple, homely and yet delish! Very budget friendly place, run by devotees I believe.

Really enjoyed this place. It has a bit of a canteen vibe but somehow I just really like the atmosphere and everything.

Pure and authentic vegetarian food. Was in London on business and wanted food like home and Govindas's delivered. Loved the curries, the flavour was amazing, would definitely recommend.

Authentic, tasty, all vegetarian and nearly all vegan options, really great price, great selection... What more could you ask for? It's pretty busy and not somewhere to sit and catch up with friends as it's too noisy, but a lovely find.

Extremely non-authentic, lowest quality, over-priced Indian food. Sweet staff and unhygienic seating :( Not even worth free distribution. It’s better to have the free food they distribute outside the Student Union Building of LSE every weekday of the term.

Tasty and delicious, very reasonably priced, I love their food, the drinks and the desert, it's super vegan friendly. I'm a massive fan, if you like options, go for the 8 or 12 plate, there's pretty much everything on the menu there. Get amongst it, you won't be disappointed!

Very delicious pure vegetarian food available here. Nice staff, good service, reasonable prices. A must go place for having a meal or snack.

I always come to Govinda’s when I’m in London! Very reasonable prices for delicious vegetarian or vegan Indian food. They have a great variety and it’s always tasty. The staff are the highlight—really friendly and helpful!

We ordered The Paneer. The lentils and paneer were tasty, the yellow rice was good. The salad was way to simple and small. The chapatis were like dry crackers and the samosas were overcooked. Slow and messy service. Toilet experience a disaster. Food in general was good but the portions were very small...the whole experience wasn't as good as I thought it would be.

Came across this self serve cafe style place and gave it a try. I am so happy I did as the food was very authentic. I had a paneer thali which comes with paneer, daal, veggie rice, some salad and pappodam. Everything was great, I enjoyed every bite. Place has a nice calming vibe.

Good place for a simple vegetarian meal in central London and that too at a very good price . Recommend the unlimited thali ...which is good for 9.25£ with unlimited top-ups - only suggestions would be to add a chapati or puri to it as a limited option and better quality and taste for the yellow pulao . A must go place for anyone craving for a simple vegetarian food in UK .

Food is too good especially for vegetarians also budget friendly in heart of London. I like the service, ambience and food here.Overall must try when you’re in Oxford street London.

My favourite place in London for Indian food! We have visited the temple upstairs many times over the years, and tried all the Thalis, snacks and drinks in the restaurant. Felt great each time. Good portion sizes and so economical, feels like an oasis in the middle of Oxford Street. Highly recommend.

Pretty good restaurant and prices are very affordable for Soho area. For approximately £11, we get enough (more than enough?) food. I ordered "The Thali". It comes with 5 different curries, rice, pappadom, and a bread. The taste was good and smooth. It wasn't particularly loaded on spice and it is reasonable given that the hotel is associated with a temple. It will be a very good introduction to Indian vegetarian food to those who've never tried it. Reservation is required if more than 8 people are coming else it's a walk-in. Visited on a Saturday afternoon and had to wait approximately 30 minutes. Taste: 4/5 Price: 5/5 Choice of menu: 4/5 Pro tip: Students get 10% discount on all non-thali items.

Everything is perfect but there no value for money, For 12 pounds the quantity they offer is very low.. it’s not sufficient for one person. They offer in very tiny containers

  • 5/5 Pathikrit P. 4 months ago on Google
We had the paneer thali which had salad, rice, dal (which they call lentil soup), paneer and papad. The taste was great, not on the spicy side. We also had masala chai which wasn't served hot so that was ideal but it still was decent. Overall would recommend again

My girlfriend's family highly recommended Govinda's and it didn't disappoint at all. The queue was quite long but it kept moving pretty fast. Everyone seemed to be getting sat as soon as they got their food. The staff were so lovely even as busy as they were and the food was incredible! Just a lovely dinner out
