Disappointed and fell sick after eating here. We visited Sagar on a Sunday late afternoon and like some of the other recent reviews posted we found the food absolutely tasteless. The coconut chutney given with Bhajia and dosas had no salt, sambhar was just plain spiced water and the potato filling masala dosa was definitely a few days old which made us fall sick. Sev puri chaat served only had pieces of onion, chutney and coated with strange looking sev (presumably leftover from some other dish). I usually don’t post reviews but had to make this exception given how bad the experience with the food was. This was my second visit to this restaurant and I will not be visiting this franchise again. The cost of the dishes does not justify the quality and/or taste of the food served at this restaurant.

I went here with my boyfriend this week (11/2021). We expected great things given the menu looked so delicious for vegans. Unfortunately, we were sadly mistaken. It was bad when the poppadoms for our starter didn't come with the usual chopped onions or chutney. Instead, an odd lentil daal mix with a cucumber number that was underwhelming. It became much worse when for mains, I had the lentil and masala pancake, which did not taste of masala at all. In fact, it was inedible due to the "masala" element consisting of two different types of diced chilli. It was too hot to eat, and absolutely flavourless. My boyfriend had the masala dosa. The same type of condiments were given to what we had earlier received with the poppadoms, alongside side a cold potato filling. I would like to say the staff were attentive and made the whole experience easier, alas it was the opposite. I'm not someone who usually leaves a review but we were greatly disappointed with both the service and the food. It's such a shame. I hope this review can go some way into inspiring the restaurant to improve upon its customer service and menu, because it really let itself down.

We had a fairly large group meet here for dinner before a show. We even added 3 more to our party and they accommodated us graciously. The waiter did a great job, didn’t skip a beat. The food was good. We had samosas, among a ton of other dishes. I enjoyed the samosa with tamarind sauce. I ordered the vegetable kurma and thought it lacked depth. It was good though. My friend’s fried rice was super spicy and had great flavor. My other friend had the sambar which was also pretty tasty. Definitely an affordable place for vegan/vegetarian fare.

Had Sunday lunch here, I can highly recommend a visit, choices were good and service was fairly quick, lots of choices for starters based on Indian street food and all vegetarian or vegan options. The mains were very filling and amusing to see the sizes of Paper Dosa, enjoyed our meal leaving with full bellies.

Really great meal - we were going to see Frozen the musical, that is literally across the road, less than a minute walk. The staff are really nice and friendly, we didn't know what to order and they offered suggestions and were really accommodating throughout. Would definitely go back! Also, I'm not a vegan, and all the food was flavoursome and delicious! Thank you

Visited here for an afternoon snack. The basic courtesy was lacking and no drink was either offered or checked for. The people working were very friendly and talkative. Enjoyed Sev puri and onion masala dosa. But the pani puri was sad. The prices and portions were reasonable. Might not visit again, but definitely worth one visit.

Restaurant is very cramped they should take out a couple of tables. Food is delicious and lots of veggie/vegan choices. Dosa was yummy! Service was major issue, staff not particularly friendly. Due to the closeness of the tables one of the waiters whilst clearing next table hit me on the head 4 times and pushed me out of way whilst I was eating to pick up plates. He realised he had done it each time and no apology! Shocking! But then the icing on the cake was when the bill came he suggested we round it up by £5 when splitting the bill despite the "discretionary" service of 12.5% being added. The cheek I was going to ask to have that removed but was in shock with the audacity to ask for extra! Won't be going to this branch again

Gobi Manchurian, excellent. Sambar also excellent. But the dosa was rather oily and the coconut chutney was a bit bland :(

paneer masala with ZERO paneer in and some sad lumps of vegetables. Thought maybe the food would save the incredibly mediocre experience we had. We waited 40-45 minutes and had to get it in a takeaway as we had to leave. Even though we we were the second or third table upstairs, our food arrived last (and the upstairs was full by the time we left). No apology. Plenty more respectable institutions to spend your money at.

Great food, good menu variety, polite but slightly odd waiters. The layout is too dense and the front door doesn't shut so every time someone comes or goes the wind comes in. They charge a 12.5% 'discretionary service fee' (aka. mandatory tip) THEN have the body nerve to ask if you want to add another tip on top when paying. The service fee is included in the price of the food, it's not something you can charge extra for. This isn't the USA, we don't do mandatory service fees or tipping here and we don't want to start it, so that sure isn't on. Avoid this and other restaurants that do this until they sort that out or we'll be stuck with it.

Beautifully decorated with antiques. The menu is rich and varied and the food is well balanced with delicate spices. My favourites were the selection of popadams and mogo chips in tamarind sauce. The staff were polite and friendly.

Had such lovely food and great service for dinner with a friend here. Lots of food choices, cosy interior, great classic Bollywood music and a lovely server Sheikh for the evening who was very attentive and friendly. Can't wait to come back again!

Restaurant was manic, they crammed as many people as they could in the restaurant. You were pretty much sat on the lap of other people. Hair was also found in one of our meals. Cutlery and glasses were also dirty. A star was given for the menu choices.

The food was tasty and sumptuous. The Sagar Special Dosa was wholesome. Also had malai kulfi here after va very long time which was tasty as well. The service was also good. The two gentlemen who served me were very polite and kind. Thank you for the food and the service! Will definitely visit again! :)

Very good southern Indian food. It is reasonably priced for central London. The waiter made three mistakes on my order but amended them all when I brought the issues to their attention. It is overall a very good place.

Great vegetarian Indian restaurant in the heart of covent garden. Isak’s service is commendable. He was very attentive and spot on with the service. The place was packed for dinner and yet I did not see the service miss a beat. Food was very comforting reminding me of my childhood days in southern India. The atmosphere is very basic and lacks any lustrous decor but don’t let that fool you. Stop it and you won’t be disappointed!!

The food was good but we thought the prices were high for small portions. We got medu vada, sagar special dosha (this was the one dish where the portion size felt fair for the price), vegetable kootu (it seemed like a small portion) and batura (yum). We ordered the vegan dessert option, sheera. It's a simple dessert but I like it. I don't think we would go again because we got more food for less at other restaurants. Also, the menu states that they include a 12.5% service fee but the waiter quickly (and it was weird for us) added 5 pounds to the bill for a tip.

Amazing food. Honestly among the best experiences with vegan indian food in town. I only had the vegan Thali and bottle of still water. You might find it a touch salty in taste and price, so check well the menu. In case you ask for water specify tap water or they'll bring bottled water (330 ml at 2.55£). Consider that they will add a +12.5 tip, which turns out to be common in town but you won't be noticed in advance. The ground floor room is quite tiny but the waiters seemed helpful in arranging tables. They have a top floor but eventually not use it during weekdays.

If you want to try Authentic south Indian food in London, then your search is over. This is the place to go to for all your south Indian cravings. I have ordered Mysore masala dosa, which was delicious and Sambhar was so good, I felt like I am back in Bangalore. Guys do try it and don’t forget to order filter (Mysore ) coffee😍

Took my Mother here as a treat before Lion King. Helpful friendly staff, made great recommendations. Food was fantastic, we brought two different Thalis and tried a bit of everything between us. Every single pot of curry had completely different flavourings to it, unlike some curry houses where it all tastes the same! Highly recommend the Thalis platters, best £20 you'll ever spend on a meal! ❤️

I went because of the great reviews. The place was packed and we were lucky we got a table. Bit claustrophobic and not generous with space. Good menu. Great service and nice waiters. The paratha was tasty and the first round of chapati soft and tasty, 2 round not as soft. We are intolerant of heat and I asked if the food is spicy and was told not at all...according to the Indian palate not spicy but for us it was which was a shame. I don't understand why it's so popular as the food was a bit bland. However do give the place a try as it's popular with good reviews, good prices and lovely staff

We had mutter paneer and fried Dahl with a garlic rice, batura, and chipatti, and everything was so tasty. This is our second visit here and we will keep coming back. Food is so tasty! Also our waiter was very friendly and helpful when recommending foods and deadling with our allergies! Thank you Isak! 👍🏼

Good food - gives an authentic south Indian feel. However I found the curries a bit salty. Easily accessible via public transport, nice environment. I was impressed with channa batura, most of the food hit the mark in terms of expectations. Nice and cosy place, not too busy - mostly vegetarian food and a large menu. Dosa and vadas were also reasonably good. Chats are not their forte but they do a decent job with those ad well. Good choice to get a taste of south Indian cuisine

My friend and I had the thalis which were delicious - a true taste of India - loads of choice for vegans and all clearly labelled on the menu. Our server Isa was really friendly and helpful. Good place if you’re heading to the theatres nearby!

My son treated me to this place as he is embarking on a healthier diet. You need to book to get a table as it gets really busy quickly. The menu is familiar Sri Lankan cuisine with my beloved crispy crepe paper roast or Dosa served with paneer, lentils and coconut sambal. The crepe was so thin and crispy that it melts in your mouth. The aubergine curry was specially tasty with fried bread. We weren't that hungry so we didn't get a chance to try other dishes but I noticed the vegetable biryani was quite popular on the other tables. I only wished the place is bigger as it gets packed later in the evening.

Great location for a vegetarian restaurant. The dosa were lovely and filling. As a pani puri lover, I was disappointed with theirs. It was just chickpeas in the puri with the tamarind sauce. But great place! Worth a visit for lunch or dinner

We walked past this place while looking for a place to eat in Covent Garden that wasn’t too packed. I love South Indian cuisine so gave it a try. It was just after the theatre rush so we didn’t need a booking. The food was excellent! We had the Manchurian Gobi (yes it’s an Indian take on Chinese!) and the Chilli Paneer to start. We practically inhaled them! I was curious about the Lentil Pizza so have it a try while my partner went for the traditional dosa. Again both were good although not quite chilli enough for my Punjabi tongue. We also had the Gajar Ka Halwa and the Jaggery Dosa for dessert and both were excellent. I liked it so much I suggested it to a group of friends for later that week and I had the Sagar special Dosa which I highly recommend.

One of my favourite restaurants in Covent Garden. I dine here with family, friends or even alone. Very pleasant quick service. Its great choice for South Indian cuisine lovers, vegans, vegetarians, and people who are looking for gluten free options.

Amazing vegan south Indian food in London! Took us straight back to the local food. The dosa's and idli's are great and the curries looked amazing too! The service was also good and there was a great atmosphere! We booked a table around 7pm as we visited on a Saturday! It looked pretty busy so I'm glad we booked.

I come here every time I'm in the office, without fail. It's my food that reminds me of home as my family are from the same region. I'd go as far to say that it's the best vegan Indian food I've ever had (except for my mum's cooking 😉)

  • 2/5 Moulick D. 1 year ago on Google
The ambience was good, but the food was not to the mark. We ordered Hakka Noodles and Rava masala dosa . Hakka Noodles was high on vinegar and ketchup, no where close to a decent Hakka Noodles. Rava dosa - It didn’t taste as a Rava dosa at the first place. Chutneys were bland and sambhar tasteless. In short disappointing, taste could have been better. I would avoid this place.

  • 4/5 Gemma N. 8 months ago on Google
Went here for a work lunch, and as a vegetarian, I really loved the variety of choices on the menu. Ordered one of the thalis which was tasty and filling, but certain elements were definitely better than others - a couple of the curries were quite bland and the rice was not good at all. I also thought it was slightly overpriced.

My favourite indian restaurant. Always get the rava masala dosa which is similar to a pancake and is filled with a samosa style filling (potato, pea, carrot) served with dhal and coconut yoghurt. Plenty of options to choose from though!

We dined indoors twice on a recent visit to London following the easing of lockdown restrictions. The food was tremendous, such a treat to find good authentic veg Indian food. Portion size was good and overall very happy with service and VFM. Excellent Covid measures in place gave us peace of mind. Can't wait to return!

The food was SUPER fresh! Best South Indian food I’ve had in a long time. The food was ready quick, must visit!

  • 3/5 Pulmu K. 2 years ago on Google
The food is nice: made of fresh ingredients, mostly well cooked (some pieces of aubergine were undercooked but mostly fine), and has nice subtle flavors. But unfortunately they remain subtle in flavor: I asked to have my dishes extremely spicy but they just gave fresh chillies on a side and didn't cook the dishes themselves spicy. Also the portions are very very small and I was left hungry after two curries. One further minus is that it's cold in the restaurant and they keep the door open even when it's very cold outside as well. Service is friendly and the restaurant settings pleasant without any too loud music. And huge greetings that the menu is mostly vegan! In sum, very average, not too bad but nothing special.

Truly fantastic quality Indian food. After spending a year in India, I've been looking for food in the UK that tasted like it did there. This is one of the few restaurants that, for me, tastes like India. Highly recommended.

We had an absolutely amazing time at Sagar! Such delicious food and a real bonus that everything is vegetatian! The mango lassis are amazing! We sampled the tali and masala dosa, both of which were extremely traditionally south Indian and were seasoned to perfection! Will definitely be coming back the next time we are in London!

TERRIBLE TASTELESS FOOD WITH LESS THAN IMPRESSIVE SERVICE…After looking for a place to eat whilst in London for our family of 5 we stumbled across Sagar, which on the face of it looked good. However, after being recommended the platter (which was in no way what we described what we liked) we were left completely underwhelmed. The platter was small and whole meal was tasteless and came with an awful stomach ache for both myself and my wife for the rest of the evening, and this morning. Not impressed in the slightest and definitely wont be going back or recommending here as an option. Top tip: clear away the starters before bringing out the mains, then you don’t have to struggle pushing plates to the edge of the tables with 3 small children, especially as you weren’t even busy!

  • 5/5 Hamza S. 2 years ago on Google
Great vegetarian food, a lot of which is naturally vegan. Try their dosa, you won't regret it.

  • 3/5 Medine V. 2 years ago on Google
The staff are friendly and pleasant. Unfortunately the quality of the food appears to have deteriorated: our dosas were luke warm and some of the food we ordered lacked flavour. It is a shame as in the past the food has been excellent. It is also quite pricey but this is understandable given central location.

  • 5/5 Adam S. 2 years ago on Google
Over half the customers in the Indian restaurant worth of India, so we could tell that it's authentic and does good Indian food. It was great, wholesomely done and not padded out with the ingredients restaurants often use which make things less healthy. The bread was made to perfection, the ingredients were wholesome and succulent and recipes were super. Over half of the menu is vegan, which was nice as well. It's staff are quite rushed, people are packed quite closely together, but the prices are great. One really annoying thing was the waiter kept on bumping into my shoulder. I stopped it by by getting even more tightly into the table than was comfortable for me and the person sitting next to me. After doing it about 10 times he did apologise, but if I had a bad shoulder or any other medical issues it would have caused me problems. I don't so I was fine, but it was a bit annoying. Fortunately the staff were so friendly and the food was so good that it still retains 5 stars and I'd recommend it to others.

Delicious! Was really pleased to find a vegetarian curry restaurant that offers food packed with flavour and texture. They also have vegan options which was considerate. Attentive and helpful staff ☺️ Bathrooms could use a little work as they smelled slightly of damp and were a bit untidy but the food and restaurant atmosphere were lovely.

We arrived at this vegetarian Indian restaurant by chance, because eveyrwhere else was booked up, Saturday evening before the shows! All I can say is that we were very pleasantly suprised. Friendly helpful staff, plenty to choose from. It appeared to be very authentic. I do not think you will be dissaponted if you make it your first choice for the night. Reccomend the Lassi (yoghurt) drinks, especialy if having something spicy. Enjoy

Great service and the most amazing food. We all had the South Indian Thali, which had a variety of flavours from quite spicy soup to the cooling cucumber Raita, wonderful rice and a Cardamom dessert. A friend with nut allergies was catered for. We enjoyed our Mango lassi drinks. It is so hard not to drink it in one go as it is so lovely.

Amazing food. The taste of the food is akin to the one you find in India. They even have a no onion no garlic menu for people who follow Jain diet or Hare Rama Krishna or Swami Narayan. We had two uttapas that were huge and delicious! We even got free refills of chutney and sambhar. We were served by ISAK who was a lovely cheery gentleman and made sure we get good jain food. Definitely going there again!
