Such fresh food, perfectly cooked and seasoned, in a BEAUTIFUL atmosphere, and with great service. Every time I drive by Rockford I will be buzzing in here for a delicious meal. I had a tuna poke bowl, shrimp, miso soup, and lemonade. Yum!!!

JMK has always been one of our families favorite places to eat. Terrific atmosphere, delicious libations, mouth watering food, and entertainment to boot. My wife and I always order the dinner for 2 choosing shrimp as opposed to scallops, the filet for our steak, and chicken. The food is always prepared perfectly and the chef never disappoints with both his preparation and overall presentation of the food made. The servers are always quick with drinks and the Sushi/appetizers being brought out to the table. We try to come here atleast once every few months and always leave full and satisfied.

My girlfriend and I came here on a whim while we we're spending the night in Rockford on a road trip. Wow! What a great surprise. I have never taken so many pictures of the inside of a restaurant. It's beautiful. We got to meet a wonderful family from Dixon. The Hai!ball was great! The food was great! I can't wait till we get a chance to stop here again!

Definitely worth it. Everything was good. Great food. Great atmosphere. Prices not too extraordinary. Three people can dine with a full entre each and drink and tip for just around $100. Great place to take a first date. It's cool because we got to sit at a 12 person table. Because of the presence of others it kept things from getting awkward. Probably the best place in the Rockford Illinois area to go for a quality evening of great food whether alone, or on a date, or with the family. Yes I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Server "Olivia" was very gracious. Praise the Lord. Thank you Jesus. Amen.

Great sake and sushi! Have been here before many years ago for hibachi. It was good but tonight we were just craving sushi. We sat at a seat next to the bar and the sushi was phenomenal. We ordered a la crate nigiri. Yellow tail and white tuna on rice. Both were fresh and delicious! Then we finished with the scorpion roll which was out of this world. We thought we going to get more sushi when we walked in but we’re completely full after all of that food. Definitely recommend checking this place out. It has been here as long as I can remember.

Nice place. Prefer the cafe side , more mellow. Hibachi side has strong good smell from the table side cooking. . Service and food was decent. Nice drinks. Like the sushi rolls more than the sashimi. Have a large menu selection.

JMK Nippon has been the place to go for years. Their teppan tables are a great entertainment if you have the time. Usually, my family and I can be found on the cafe side. You can get the same menu options without the show. During weekends there is a hefty wait- reservations suggested. They have add a gluten-free option for those with restrictions. You can even catch the owner walking around from time to time.

Amazing experience!! I thought the flavor of the food was actually better than Shogun. Our waiter was super nice and the chef was also fantastic. We will be back!!

My favorite place. The hibachi for 2 is the best deal and they have it for lunch or dinner. The waiters are very attentive to your order and table for refils. The cooks put on a fun show and do a really good job. I've been here 5 times and it's always been a great experience. The Mai Tai's are my favorite drink and in the picture.

Food appetizers were pretty good, and took about 10 or so minutes, and the real food took about 25. Keep in mind, my family and I took some larger-ish dishes, and it was busy as heck. The wait was very much worth it, the artwork is interesting to look at for a good 5 minutes. When the food got to us, it looked great. The rice tasted VERY luxurious, and the seasoning was perfect. On the tables, there was some soy sauce, and a shook seasoning bottle thingy, witch had some spicy, kind of, seasoning inside. The sushi was good, and if you can't use chopsticks, you can ask for silverware. Overall, would give a 6 star if I could. Compliments to the workers! Truly amazing!

On 10-21-2020 My family and I were waiting to be seated when the host handed me a virus mask and said "here you go sir" and for the first time ever I put on a virus mask. I did it because he was the very first person ever to politely suggest that I wear a mask. He didn't yell, insist, demand or act in an insolent manner. The food is great and I'm very picky. The staff is fast and attentive. I can only say good things about this place.

This place has been fabulous the last 3 times I went (Cafe & grill side). They accommodated my gluten allergy, which was fantastic! I've enjoyed everything I've had so far here.

We were there with a rather large group with a lot of moving parts and several birthdays being celebrated of multiple ages so I won't judge them on the celebration singing. Our server was outstanding however others in our group at the next table over were not as fortunate as their server was not friendly or efficient. Our server and chef did fantastic at making sure our orders were cooked and served correctly. The parking is free and plentiful & the place is totally handicap accessible which is greatly appreciated. We ordered the dinner for 2 which came with soup, salad, shrimp appetize, steak, chicken and either shrimp or scallops, vegetables and white rice however you can get fried rice for an up charge. The drinks were very good and served quickly and kept full.

What a great surprise! Went to this restaurant with low expectations and it was a wonderful surprise! It is not just food, it is the experience. Good food, great service and atmosphere. Prices also very good, we were in a group and the best choice was the dinner for 2 with upgraded option for fillet mignon. The salad and soup as starters also very good. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the city.

Our experience is usually great last night however the carpet by our grill and the chef mat had food from the lunch service they should do better at cleaning before dinner service.

Our server Anthony was amazing. Definitely one of the best servers I’ve ever had. If anyone deserves a raise it’s that man. He made sure everything was perfect and had a great attitude on a obviously busy Friday night. Definitely will return just for the service. Food was amazing also and the cook was awesome as usual.

We had a fabulous dinner with friends and they did social distance in the restaurant so I would recommend a reservation. The food was delicious and I felt that it was reasonably priced. Your meal came with soup, salad, and the rice and we had the Hibachi Steak and the Asian sea bass which was very good. The cook did it right in front of your table and the portions were very good and plenty enough for us. We left their very satisfied. We will definitely go back again.

Been a patron here for nearly 20 years!! If it wasn't great I would go to another Japanese restaurant!! Both the lounge, hibachi tables or the dining room, you won't be sorry!! The eel and sashimi is excellent!!

We are on the grill side. The chef suggested some alterations to my dish after I said that I did enjoy spicy food. That hot onion sauce was delicious! The chef was also full of humor and very good at his job. The waitstaff seemed knowledgeable and friendly. The overall atmosphere was great.

Normally we have no issues , I was a little grossed out tonight , the carpet around our table and the mat at the chief station was clearly not cleaned between the lunch and dinner hours.

JMK is one of my favorite places to eat, I have been coming at least once every year for over 10 years. Everything is typically top notch, and even those who have had bad days were still better than many other places best. Love everything about the place and pray it upholds the values the owners began with and continue to uphold.

They are a unique restaurant in how they present and prepare their food. While tossing and catching their cooking implements doesn't seem to me as that entertaining (he dropped one once) repeated tossing and catching an egg, only using a spatula, had some entertainment value. I was waiting for something to go wrong, but it didn't. They also sing happy birthday to customers that are having a birthday. There were several.

  • 5/5 Rodney R. 1 year ago on Google
In our opinion, we felt like the portion of meats to rice was bit small. I'm not one to be negative on a post, just our party of four all made same comment. After dinner for two, and slice of cake, still hungry. Maybe cooked in front of you there's more than is served for large party room.

I haven't been here for about 2 years. The food and service is still excellent, so fresh. I love how the chefs prepare the food and use fire and theatrics to bring your experience to life.

We had a reservation for a group of 9 people and we were in and out in just about 3 hours! Normally at most I could see 2 hours but they looked busy and sort staffed on cooks so we waited a long time to get anything and we were waiting at least 20 minutes to sit down with all 9 of us there on time. The food was not flavored well (I had lobster, sesame chicken, and fried rice) and I was very disappointed in paying $60 on myself for a meal that was nothing special and had super slow service. They were out of the cat mug too which was another disappointment. I would not go back or recommend this restaurant.

Ya just can't go wrong with JMK. Our favorites include the Surf & Turf roll (soooo good), dinner for two hibachi, their ginger salad dressing still is the best we've ever had anywhere and their bento boxes are amazing. Plus we always get great, attentive service.

This place always has good food and a good show. We had Mario as our cook the other night and he was the best! Everything was just one notch better than the great food we always expect.

  • 3/5 Sarah J. 3 years ago on Google
I love the food at JMK but do not recommend using their carryout service. The last three times I have ordered carryout from JMK my bag was missing orders of soup that I paid for. I called to advise them of the error and they told me our next order would contain free soup and rice to make up for it. So we placed that next order, I let the order taker know of the situation, got home and we were missing the soup AGAIN. This last time we tried them once more and I asked that they ensure the soup actually gets in the bag this time. It did, but they didn't give us any of the rice that came with the meals. Very disappointed that they can't seem to get it right.

  • 3/5 Yomira C. 3 years ago on Google
Usually, this place is great. Food is amazing. However, today, it took at least 30 minutes to just get our drinks, and an hour and a half for the cook to get to our table. Someone told us that our order got ignored by managers because they were short staffed. I understand that it must have been a rough night, but no one even came to apologize or check in on us the whole night. We were really disappointed at the end.

  • 5/5 stephanie O. 4 years ago on Google
Omgosh. What a amazing meal every time we go . They know my daughter and I by first name. We start with a cocktail at the cozy bar on right side as you pass wait station. Haft to get a few different sushi rolls for are appetizer. Next we move into dining area where one of the many great chef's will prepare the meal in front of us. Talking and having fun, doing tricks on the grill. Definitely bring your appetite. Take your time and enjoy the little things in life like JMK. Fun with family or friends, maybe both. Or sneak out for a sushi by yourself. Lol.

  • 2/5 Patricia L. 3 years ago on Google
I was rather disappointed. Always enjoyed the food here, but this last time I was not happy with the fried rice. It was cold and not tasty as usual. The Japanese soup was too pungent and just didn't taste right. The sushi roll was Fabulous. But the rest was not great at all

  • 5/5 Maria S N. 3 years ago on Google
Dinner was awesome. We had the dinner special for 2 and although they couldn't cook it on front of us, it was awesome. The filet was cooked perfectly, the scallops were lightly floured and also perfect. Great service.. fab dinner, outside on the patio!

  • 5/5 Lauren A. 3 years ago on Google
It is always fun to have the experience of at table meal preparation and our meals were excellent. The cocktails are fun and our D-I-L took the specialty, take home "cups" home with her as a memento. Excellent experience and meal, moderate and fun cocktail menu, great service. We will definitely go back.

We have been regular customers for over 34/35 years. I think we are through. Dirty, slow...45 minutes for water, one hour for drinks and they were wrong. Food started before salad and soup. We called it to attention on staff...ALL seemed confused and in general nothing organized. Soup...watered down more like warm dish water. Salad...over ripe veggies. Fried rice overcooked and flavorless Overall 2hrs /$90.00. Absolutely awful experience. Time to move on.
