Holy cow this place is awesome! I had no idea. Was just in town for a night on a road trip, and decided to walk from the hotel to grab a quick bite. I never expected to find such a gem. This place is amazing, and i wish I could come back on the regular. The food is great, as good as I've had in any city. But the decor, atmosphere, and staff are just absolutely world class. This restaurant is like stepping into a time capsule back to my childhood and I absolutely love it.

Original decor and seating from 1921! Not handicap accessible. Was in the area for the night. Easy to miss the door, but Google Maps will take you right to it. Good portion sizes, leftovers to be expected. Our server has worked there 35 years! Very nice and helpful. 3 American items on the menu (in case you have a picky eater) 1 of them is a hamburger and fries. Will definitely come again if in the Janesville area!

We had just learned about the Cozy Inn and wanted to check it out. The atmosphere is exactly what you would expect, it’s like a time warp to back when Chinese restaurants were somewhat of a classy place to go. The staff was friendly and very attentive. The Crab Rangoons were good but mostly cream cheese - not much for the crab part. I had the General’s Chicken with sweet and spicy soup. The egg rolls were great, and the soup was pretty good also. The actual chicken dinner was not great. The baby corn in was very earthy and the seasoning was all spice with almost no flavor. My wife had the same kind of feedback, that something was missing in the flavor. With that being said, I have to wonder if we just ordered the wrong food or just had an off night, because a restaurant that has been here for 100 years couldn’t survive if all the food was not great. The best part for me was that they actually had red tea!! I have missed that! So three stars for the appetizers, service, and the atmosphere, but the main entrées really brought it down.

Very cute and cozy interior Awesome history. Food was amazing! We got 2 orders of house fried rice, beef and broccoli, shrimp egg foo, and Shrimp Hunan. Also got the crab ragoons but we ate them too quick for a picture.

The people who work there are awesome! The food isn't. 100$ for 3 of us (no drinks, no soda, 1 appetizer) Food was bland, sauces were very watered down some dishes were very salty and some was burnt. Very expensive for something so bad. Would not recommend or go back. Great people- bad food.

Great Chinese food in a cool atmosphere. Walking up the narrow stairs and walking into the restaurant was like a step back in time that reminded us of a Chinese restaurant that you would have seen in an old movie.

I always wanted to check this place out because I heard it's been there for over a 100 years. The food was great, and the wonderful lady was serving is was super nice, and always made sure we had what we wanted. She even packed up our leftovers to bring home. The only thing I would change is I would brighten the restaurant up a tad bit more. Other than that I will definitely be visiting again!!

The Cozy Inn Family is so amazing! The hospitality and kindness we receive from everyone is just amazing! From Amanda to Julie and the cooks. The atmosphere is so genuine and the food is the BEST CHINESE we’ve had anywhere. Now if you could just give me that egg role recipe. 😉

It is an oldest Chinese restaurant in Wisconsin and a second oldest Chinese restaurant in US. News headline and good reviews was enough for my family to visit it. I did not expect much but what was very apparent is the age of the place. The restaurant is very old and badly needs renovation or at least some basic remodeling, like old smelly carpet replacement or fixing degrading ceiling tiles. Service was great but food came cold. There were several items on the menu unavailable. Overall it was not the greatest experience for me and I would not recommend this restaurant.

Our family absolutely loves Cozy Inn! My kids even comment on how the stairs make it special. The food is wonderful, but the people are what really make it a place we will always come back to. They work so hard and run their tails off and never stop smiling when they do it. Be mindful that this restaurant and their recipes are over one hundred years old so don't expect Panda Garden Chinese food. It is different. It is authentic. It is worth it!

We Love Cozy Inn. I have been eating there since the 1970's. Food is always delicious and fresh. My friends of more than 45 years meet here once a month to catch up. It's always great. We are all in our 60s and manage to climb the stairs. Happy 100 years to Cozy Inn

Super historic Janesville place. Food is great. Egg rolls are incredible. They even have an original menu from the early 1900s to check out. Great place

This was my first time going to this wonderful restaurant. It reminds me of the old style restaurants in China Town which are wonderfully hidden in old buildings. The egg rolls are made with peanut butter which gives a nice sweet base. I had the sweet and sour chicken which was also very good. The house sauce is delicate but multidimensional with a lovely blend of sweet pineapple, fresh tomatoes, and green peppers. The service was very friendly.

I’ve lived in Janesville for 2 years and finally ordered Friday night take-out from here. Wow! Even though they forgot our Crab Rangoon we got 2 extra egg rolls to make up for it. The egg rolls had a tad too much peanut butter for my liking but overall everything was very good. Kind of neat seeing all the old articles posted at the register and reading the history of the restaurant. I did get stuck at the top of the stairs waiting for other patrons to come up - kind of a tight squeeze for passing on the way up/down.

This is probably one of the better restaurants in Janesville, but it's not great, just okay. The service is great, very friendly employees. The atmosphere is a little dank, I know it's an old building but it could definitely use a renovation. As for the food, the entrees were pretty good, could use more flavor other than salt, but otherwise they were the best part of the meal. Egg drop soup was pretty good too. The rice that came with the entrees was dry and kind of crusty on top. Also, don't get fried foods, both the egg rolls and rangoons were not very good in terms of the frying and also the flavor of the filling. Overall, I'd be okay with eating here again if somebody asked me to, but probably wouldn't choose to come again on my own.

Just do it if you’re considering it! Very old restaurant, BUT, the food is authentic and fantastic. Large portion sizes - anticipate leftovers. The servers are very quick and attentive. We will definitely be coming back. Would recommend the Beef Kew!!!

This is the best Chinese food I have ever had. The sweet and sour sauce was the best ever. All their food is made in house. Very friendly staff and the place was super clean. The atmosphere in the restaurant was nice. Very dim lighting and great music playing. Highly recommend this place and will visit on a regular basis.

We absolutely love this place. We moved away 11 years ago and stopped while we were on a road trip. Nothing has changed and the food is incredible as always. The egg rolls are remarkable (as long as you like peanut butter). The hot and sour soup is on point! We had three different dishes and they were all really good. Lovely place with a great history and ambiance to match.

This place is flat out amazing. From the food to the service don't ever change a thing. The atmosphere in this place makes you feel like you're sitting at a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. Soooooo good I can't say it enough. Must go don't pass it up.

The food was horrible and when I complained about it the waitress was not friendly. I asked for something different and she tried to charge me for that and the order that was uneatable. When I asked for check she had charged me 3 dollars over the price of my dish. I confronted her and she quoted the price on ticket. I said the menu said 12.99. when I asked to see menu she snatched the ticket and came back with correct price and said I quote, " sorry didn't have my glasses on". I paid ticket but didn't leave a tip and as I was walking off she said " what service you not like. I walked out. I been in Janesville 40 yrs and have eaten there many times. This was upsetting.

Amazing place - it's just over 100 years old! It might be nostalgic for me since I grew up in Janesville, but it is my favorite restaurant of all time. The atmosphere when you walk takes you to another time and place. It's hard to go out with small children, but the staff was so patient and respectful with us. Thank you!

Love, love, love the Cozy Inn. I have been dining here since I was a child and they never disappoint! My goal is to keep trying new dishes, but always include the best egg rolls and crab Rangoon I gave ever had. Congratulations on their milestone of serving Janesville for 100 years!

Wow, amazing food and the egg rolls are the best. The hot & sour soup and curry chicken was the best I’ve ever had and I’ve spent 10 years working in china. You can’t go wrong here.

This restaurant and the family that run it are amazing. Not only is every visit a flashback to my past, but the food and service has been consistently amazing for the 30 years I've been coming here. Thanks you Amanda and family!

First time here and certainly won't be the last! We took a chance and went here based on reviews we quickly skimmed online and are sure glad we did! The other Chinese restaurant we were going to eat at was closed; what a fateful turn of events! Soups were tasty, egg rolls are indescribably good, I had the 4 season dish and my husband the kung pao. Some of the best Chinese food we've ever had! And come to find out the restaurant is celebrating 100 years this year; we certainly understand how they've managed to stay in business!! Highly recommend!

We tried them on a recommendation. We did carry out. They were busy, which was a good sign. Bad sign, we got the order home and crab rangoons were missing. We ordered 2 egg rolls, these were very good. Sweet and sour shrimp (there were 7 shrimp in the order, kind of a small amount) they were ok. I liked the sauce. Kind of a heavy breading, but ok for flavor, probably would not order them again. Shrimp egg foo yung, this came with 3 patties and lots of sauce, these were good! The pork fried rice was good. We had to go back and get the crab rangoons as we paid cash and don’t live near here (babysitting in town tonight). These were nice and hot, as they were fresh, but not great and I love crab rangoons! I was a bit dissappointed that when we went back to get the forgotten food there wasn’t an extra Rangoon or egg roll to make up for the inconvenience, aggravation and cold food (as the rest of the food had to be heated up at this point). Food was average priced, average taste, friendly staff. Not sure we’d try it again when Janesville has so many choices for carry out!

Food was mediocre. We got lo mein, Mongolian beef, and orange chicken. The lo mein was decent but the Mongolian beef was bland and tasted like a generic brown gravy akin to spicy beef stew. Friends said they had a similar experience. The prices are a bit high and the wait was around a half hour. The staff was very friendly though.

Love the atmosphere here! Everyone was super nice and wanted to make sure you had everything you need. I had the vegetable delight extra spicy and it was delicious. I also love love love how hot the spicy mustard is!

One of the two normal Chinese restaurants I go to was closed the night we wanted Chinese food, and I'm so glad because I found this place. Hands down, my new favorite spot, and will be my go-to going forward. This place is the closest to tasting like my parents' restaurant food. Egg rolls are great!

Oldest Chinese Restaurant in Wisconsin and owned by same family for over a 100 years. Great food! Better than what we had in China Town in San Francisco. If you don't mind climbing the stairs you will be treated to time gone by where quality still lives. The hot and sour soup is amazing and egg rolls superior. Everything is point on. Owners and staff very nice. Sometimes hard to get in. Make your reservation!
